The supreme ruler of hell

Almost half a year after the release of the first DOOM Eternal downloadable content, Id software brings us the second and final part of the adventures of our favorite demon hunter. After the first DLC released, The Ancient Gods part 2 is the new installment that continues and closes the plot of both the story arc that started in DOOM 2016 and the Doom slayer himself.

Time to pick up our shotgun again and shoot the hordes of hell.

More Doom Eternal with a too frenzied start

The Ancient Gods allows us to enjoy more Eternal Doom and we love that, although in its early stages the challenge has a peak of difficulty that, the one who writes you, considers excessive, since as with other DLC the developers do not calibrate well than likely. You haven't played his title for a few months and facing a big challenge right off the bat without giving us a little time to remember mechanics can be too severe a challenge, almost unfair, for the players.

I can contribute little about combat that I have not already commented a thousand times in the previous analyzes: one of the best gunplays and shooter mechanics of all time together with adrenaline-fueled fights that do not leave a single second of respite, literally speaking. As we already know, the basis of combat is knowing how to play with the times and the different types of attacks so as not to be sold out, since executions give us health, the flamethrower provides us with armor and the chainsaw provides us with ammunition. With this in mind, we must constantly be carrying out these types of attacks to fill our arsenal and always be prepared for the hundreds of monsters that will come after us.

On this occasion, several important novelties have been added that give a fresh touch to the title, some of them may be late because they have been requested since the launch of the base game. In the first place we will find new types of enemies that will put us on the ropes, among them zombie enhancers that improve the skills of the rest of the enemies, the cursed demon that will cast a spell that will reduce our health until we defeat it or the new armed baron, whose armor we will have to destroy first to get damage.

New monsters, a great deck, and lots of fun

After remembering the "basic" mechanics of Doom Eternal and sweating the fat drop we are adding more wood in the different mechanics starting with new monsters or variants of the already known ones that arrive with some type of increased power, more armor or totally new abilities that we will have to to learn to advance through the adventure. Two of the most interesting monsters at the playable level are the Stone Imp that we must kill with the automatic mode of the shotgun or with the Sentinel's Hammer that we will talk about in the next few lines or the screaming zombie, a new demon that when we die makes the rest of his allies gain power so we must try not to kill him until the end of the arena if we do not want things to get very uphill during it.

The difficulty has been increased in this installment to unsuspected limits. If already in the first part of The ancient gods we noticed how the amount and power of the enemies increased a lot compared to the base game, in this second part things will be even worse. I am not lying if I say that even playing at the lowest difficulty level I was in serious trouble several times and lost quite a few lives, and let's remember that there are 4 more difficulty levels above the most basic one, one of them even with death mode. permanent, only suitable for the most pros of players.

Doom Eternal The Ancient Gods or how to remain the king

In terms of duration it is quite acceptable, we will have 3 new levels -4 if we count the final confrontation as a different one- of more than an hour duration each one, which added to the extra challenges and completing everything we can go perfectly to 5 o'clock. In total, adding the base game and the DLC, we will have about twenty levels where we can crush the demons at ease, an action FPS with one of the longest campaigns that have been seen in a long time.

My conclusion

The Ancient Gods part 2 is the epic conclusion of the character that has accompanied us for all these years and does so in an incredible way, showing all his potential in confrontations that will make us sweat a lot. The novelties included in this new installment are very satisfactory and bring a touch of freshness to an expansion that ran the risk of being more of the same. Totally recommended as a whole.
