Don't count on your motivation

avatar

In this text I want to reflect on a phrase I saw on Instagram posted by a Brazilian billionaire who said something like this:

Don't count on motivation
Count on the routine
because you will not be motivated every day

I tend to have peaks of motivation, especially when I start something new, I give my all and I dedicate all my time to what I'm focused on, it gave me a lot of advantage in the beginning because I learned things quickly and managed to climb some steps.

The problem always started when I woke up one day unmotivated, either by an unforeseen event or some adversity, in the end that demotivation was as intent as the initial motivation and within two weeks I ended up giving up what I was doing.

Looking at it today coldly, I believe it was something related to my mindset. I suffer from anxiety so things from my point of view are usually more intense than they really are, and naturally I end up wanting to achieve results quickly so I dedicate myself so much to these peaks of motivation.

The problem is that life is not a 100 meter race where you have to give your all in a few seconds and reap the rewards of victory.

It is a marathon, and for that it is necessary to have discipline and persistence even when you are not motivated.

A good routine and discipline wins over any talent.

With anxiety comes some extra factors. Lack of discipline and organization is one of them.

And organization is the foundation of success in any goal.

You may know someone who is always inventing something new to do, he usually talks as if it was the business of the century, and maybe it really is, but just when things start to go wrong and there is a need to reevaluate the plans , he ends up giving up and going to look for something else, in the business world we say that he is the type of person he could have become rich several times, but he is usually poor.

It doesn't matter what your goal is if you don't give it enough time to make it work it won't work, everything takes time to see the results, I read an example today about it.

A pumpkin takes about 4 months to grow but an oak a hundred years.

I believe in the law of sowing that whatever you sow you reap.

But if you are planting an oak there is no point in getting rid of it because it is not big enough in 3 months, so the example of the marathon.

Big goals take time ...

Lately there is the hype of day trade, the promise of getting rich overnight, easy money. The statistic shows that it is possible but there are only 1 in 100 that will be successful.

For long-term investments, statistics are the opposite, more than 60 out of every 100 will be successful.

And why don't people choose the easy way?

Well thinking about the future is a very abstract thing, and we usually are not able to control the impulses of the present even if it takes us in the opposite direction of our goal.

That is why a well-structured routine is necessary to be successful.

In the book outwitting the devil the author teaches some factors that must be constantly monitored for success. I will not go into these aspects in depth. I recommend reading if you haven't already. But the aspects prepare you to build a routine for a "marathon".

So here's my tip, if you haven't read this book yet, read, your future will be grateful.

And if you've read it, leave your opinion to encourage people to read it too.
