CAUSES OF MALARIA

Malaria is caused by a parasite known as Anopheles mosquitoes.
The mosquito inject what is known as plasmodium into human body, this plasmodium grow and replicate first in the liver cell then more and more rapidly in the red blood cells.

So there are lots of drugs used for the treatment of malaria. Examples are:
Chloroquine, Primaquine, Atovaquone etc. but the most potent anti-malaria drugs is known as ARTEMISININ.

Chemical formula

Artemisinin was discovered in 1972 by a Chinese researcher known as Tu Youyou.
She discovered artemisinin from a traditional Chinese medicinal plant known as artemisia auna. Artemisinin is highly oxygenated unlike most othe anti-malaria drugs and it is found to be a blood schizontocidal agent compare to other malaria drugs.
And Artemisinin undergoes various chemicals reactions to produce:
Dihydroartemisinin, artemether, artesunate and so on.
