You're alive!

Moments of gratitude matter. Aside from the fact that it's important to stop and acknowledge all that God has given us, that's not the only benefit that having an attitude of gratitude can offer. Allowing yourself to see your many blessings and focusing on them more, can really transform your entire perspective.

I know for some it's not easy right now. This isn't an attempt to downplay your situation at all because I have never walked in your shoes. I can only speak from my own experiences and I can say that I have been in some real dark places inside my mind. Paralyzing places that almost took over until I accepted Christ.

By God's grace and a lot of hard work on my end, I've overcome a lot of those battles. I know you can too!

Just stop what you are doing right now and take a moment to breathe.

Plant your feet firmly on the ground (try it outside for the best effect so you're really attuned to the earth), take a deep, slow breath in and exhale slowly and thank God that you're alive. You have air in your lungs. A heart that beats. No matter what your circumstance, God is bigger.

He can and will see you through it! All you have to do is ask Him.

You're alive!

I agree that an attitude of gratitude can change our perspective. So often we fall into a "woe is me" mindset and feel like everything we touch turns to mud. When we start experiencing these negative feelings, it takes our eyes off of reality and often off of God and we start into a downward spiral that just feeds upon itself. When we acknowledge that it is not about us and how we feel and that God has a higher calling on us, we are telling Him that His will is more important that ours and we are choosing to follow Him. I'm sure Christ didn't FEEL great when he was preparing to go to the cross, but His response was “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” (Luke 22:42). And he was in terrible agony as He was hanging on the cross, but His focus was not on Himself when he said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34). Since we are called to follow His example, our response to bad things happening to us should be to accept that we live in a fallen world, remember we serve an awesome God and He is in control, and consider how can we glorify Him through this situation. So, not only should we be thankful, we should share that gratitude with others in order to bring glory to the Father and to Christ Jesus, our Savior.

Garrey,

You are in our discord channel - if you go read back to how I was feeling last night, you'll see how badly I needed to read this today. God is good. Thank you so much for the reminder that I need to focus on Christ and remember that it's not always about us. And no matter how bad it gets, He's already won the battle.

Thank you! God bless.
