Difficult Time To Be Vegan Here In Suriname 🍅📈🥦

Every morning after I wake up I hope there are so many vegetables and fruits. But all the time I reach the store I always think what I buy for eat today if have only a little vegetables, and often they are almost rotten. It’s not a good taste, and it’s nearly two months like that.

This is a problem at all the stores. Our family eats only vegan food. Vegetables are very important for us, just like meat for the people who eat meat. If I can’t eat quality vegetables more than one or two weeks, it’s okay but this time is too long. We eat more rice and bread now, and many beans, but only a little bit of vegetables everyday now. I really worry about our health will have problems some day.

The store always has cucumbers and longbeans, but they are not good. If we buy them like we got to throw away. I saw the local people just look at them and go to buy meat and eggs. I wonder how they can eat meat every day without vegetables? Maybe the people grow some vegetables at their own house, but we hope to get them from the store because we don't have land for growing.

Sometimes I see choy sum in the store, and I am so happy I stop care about the price. We stopped eating tomatoes maybe one month already because there aren't any to buy. Last weekend I saw some tomatoes in a small store, also a little vegetables and bananas. But those tomatoes are very expensive...... four tomatoes is 30srd and for today is over 45srd, normally, they are just 10srd. When I come back I tell my husband, he said, "No I can’t believe that."

I am used to wake up early in the morning every day, during the time my family is sleeping. I like to drink warm water and view the sunrise and think about everything. I tell myself it will be better soon.

Think good and good will follow, but if our fortune is not good I will go back to my country. I love my country and I have a better life than here.

I love watching the rain too, the rain makes my everything slow down.

These are dragonfruits from our friends who come to visit us on Sunday. A long time ago we can’t meet because many lockdowns, but this weekend no lockdown, only during the day but I don’t know for next week what will happen.

My two daughters are so happy to eat because we don't have fruits to eat a long time, and we eat only green mangos. Sometimes I have a good luck, and get to eat cheap bananas.

We have new friends give us coconuts and limes because they have their own trees. Those days we enjoyed time with friends. Have a beautiful day everybody.
