Gerak Saka - Betawi Silat Style

Indonesian martial arts are varied. There are thousands of styles all over Indonesia. Sadly, some of them have become extinct because the younger generation tend to abandon the tradition. Other reasons for some silat styles are the heritage of families. Those family heritages are not taught to others. Unfortunately, the generation of the family who owns the silat stiles is not interested in learning silat until their ancestors die.
Gerak Saka is originally from a Sundanese family. In history, the silat is the heritage of the royal family of Prabu Siliwangi, Raden Widarma.
Raden H Muhammad Sjafe'i (1931-2001) was the one who brought this traditional martial art to Jakarta. Muhammad Sjafe'i was called Bang Pe'i. Bang Pe'i learned Gerak Saka from Raden Widarma. Bang Pe'i learned Gerak Saka from Raden Widarma. At first, Bang Pe'i was forbidden to study because he was not a descendant of the family. Finally, after being traced, Bang Pe'i still has the blood of the descendants of the family holding the inheritance of the silat Gerak Saka.
The original name of Gerak Saka was Gerak Gulung Pribumi. Bang Pe'i was allowed to teach the Gerak Gulung Pribumi to the public under another name. Bang Pe'i then gave the name of the silat the name Gerak Saka.
Gerak Saka comes from the Sundanese language, namely Gerak Sakadekna or movement at will. Gerak Saka is still being taught in small public circles in Jakarta, such as Petojo, Rawa belong and Condet.

The specialty of Gerak Saka silat

Gerak Saka only consists of five moves. The moves are very simple. However, the application of this silat can be thousands and without limits. This silat relies on sense to parry, drop or attack.

This silat is a close-range fighting technique used to immobilize an opponent quickly. By strangling, hitting the genitals, piercing the eyes or hitting the heart. But this silat looks soft and weak. Very few kicks because kicks require a wide distance.

LOL

That is a heritage that most people have abandoned in my country. When there is Indonesian American registered one of the martial art from Indonesia, all people here are crowded. One of silat tradition Sera been registered as a copy right of Indonesian American. For me it is good for everyone from part of the world learn the old tradition.
