And if you are a fan of the saga, it is certain that you fell in love with SoulSilver and HeartGold, the fourth generation remakes for the Gold, Silver and Crystal versions of the second. These games were a huge change in the Pokemon universe, with the current division of special and physical attacks, as well as a lot of new mechanics that laid the foundations of what Pokemon is today.

One of these bases is Red. The strongest trainer of all in terms of level, who was the protagonist of the first game of the saga, and in this version returns to offer us an epic fight. His team has an average level of 84, something very high, and also all his pokemon are very strong, even his Pikachu, thanks to its speed and the item it carries. Undoubtedly it is a very difficult combat, and this is not something that characterizes the saga, you can sweep the game and still get to Red and have a really bad time, even more so now if you decide to play again, because legally there are many limitations when it comes to form a decent team and level it up even for the adventure in general, that's where you must show your skills as a Pokemon trainer, and that's why I decided to make this guide, to show you that even today, with a little dedication and strategy, you can put together an Ingame team to beat Red (and all the other trainers, of course) without using a single trick. Let's start. First, to be able to access the place where Red is, we must have obtained the 16 medals of Kanto, once this is done, we can return to challenge the Pokemon league that now will be repowered and can serve us to train and to go understanding what Red can do. Now, the preparation for the team against Red, begins, of course, in the Pokemon team. First let's take a look at yours.

His Pikachu doesn't seem to be a threat due to its low base stats, but its great speed and its Glow Ball, in addition to its level, make it perhaps the most dangerous of this team, so for it, the best thing to do is to get an Earth-type Pokemon that neutralizes its electric attacks. A good choice within the game is Donphan, of Earth type and with a lot of physical attack, but it is obtained very late in the game, within the same MT Silver, where it is red, so catching it would make us take a lot of time in its training, since we would only have the Pokemon league and the Earth type does not have much advantage there, so our choice will be another one that is better than Donphan and that is obtained halfway through the game, Mamoswine. To get it we must capture a Swinub in the Frozen Route, evolve it to Piloswine at level 33 and then teach it the move Past Power with a Heart scale, after that you raise it one more level and it evolves to Mamoswine, which at level 40 learns Earthquake and can also do a lot of damage to Venusaur and Charizard. You must be careful because it is weak to steel type and its Pikachu knows Iron Tail.

11.png

Lapras is a very powerful pokemon, his double type gives him many covers but also weaknesses that can be exploited, this pokemon knows blizzard and thanks to the weather, the attack never fails, so we have to hit him fast and hard, a strong fighting type could finish him but he knows the psychic movement, a strong special attack and it is also sure that he will not fall from a blow unless we are very close to his level, so the best option is a powerful fighting type attack, and for this it is best to take a Heracross, It is true that he has weakness against Lapras with his two strongest attacks but with good training, his Lapras will fall from a single attack of Low Kick or A Bocajarro, besides Heracross surpasses him in speed so if you take him to a decent level, he will attack first and with great force so do not be afraid, Heracross is obtainable in the trees of Route 14 using Head Strike, you must be patient because it may take time to appear, but I assure you that it is well worth it.

11.png

Snorlax has a quite interesting moveset, its ability gives it immunity against poison and it also has an infallible blizzard thanks to the weather in the environment, it has a lot in its favor to be a real threat but unfortunately, it has two factors against it that reverse the situation if you know how to take advantage of it, its low physical defense and its horrible speed make it a very easy Pokemon to beat with a strong fighting type attack, to which it is weak, perhaps the easiest of this team. That's why the best option in the game is Heracross itself, which will have even less problems than Lapras, with the right training it can knock them both down with a single hit to each one, and if you teach Low Kick to that Heracross, Snorlax will fall by its own weight, never better said, since this attack gains power the heavier the attacked Pokemon is and Snorlax is one of the heaviest in the whole saga, this, linked to its weakness to the fighting type and the high attack of Heracross, make it a more than safe target.

11.png

Blastoise is a serious thing, along with Venusaur are by far its two strongest and this has very high defenses so it will not be easy to knock it down, it is weak to electric type and plant type, but its infallible blizzard give it coverage with the latter, so we must go with an electric type Pokemon that hits hard and the best option here is Jolteon since Electrivire can not be obtained legally because to get it you must capture an Electabuzz and this can not be done until the PostGame, go to the Celeste Cave to find the necessary item and then exchange it, and that can only be done in two original NDS and if you have a lot of free time, also, Eevee is obtained early in Trigal City and evolves by giving a Thunder stone, Jolteon has a very high speed and a strong special attack so it can also serve you against Lapras, you just have to make sure you have an Eevee with the right nature, so probably (and it is also recommended) you have to resort to breeding. Against him there is not much strategy, attack with the strongest you have until he falls.

11.png

Venusaur is for me, the most complicated pokemon of all Red, because finding a pokemon that can beat him with one hit is quite difficult and you realize that seeing his stats, a psychic type like Espeon can knock him down, but his special defense is high so it is best to apply a little strategy training, and for this we will catch a Growlithe, it appears near the National Park, and train it until level 48, which can be a bit difficult if you use it in the Ingame but the fire type is one of the easiest types to cover in this game since it is not even necessary to carry one, so knowing how to move your team you will achieve it easily, it evolves with the Fire stone and the reason to wait so long to evolve it is that at level 42 it learns Shred and at level 48 it learns Ignite Envite, the attack that will make Arcanine take down Venusaur with a single hit (Arcanine does not learn this attack). Another thing you can do is to teach Growlithe the attacks, take out a hatchling and evolve it as soon as it is born to train your Arcanine with its inherited attacks from Level 1, I tell you that you will enjoy it a lot.

11.png

Finally, Charizard, a Pokemon that I love but has a combination of types that make it too fragile if you know how to counter it, and it has a X4 weakness to Rock type, what it has in its favor is that in this game there is no Rock type Pokemon that is really effective against it, so there are two options, the first is to catch a Diglett and evolve it to Dugtrio, this one learns Avalanche or Sharp Rock, Both attacks will knock out Charizard, the other, and the one that for me is the best but takes more work, is to catch a Gligar on Route 45 and train it a lot, when we finish the league for the first time we can access the Battlefront, where we must obtain a total of 48 points to buy the Sharp Fang, equip it to Gligar and make it go up a level while it is night, to evolve it into Gliscor. Gliscor is a very good option because it has a high level of physical defense and its earth type is resistant to Charizard's fire type, besides, it learns Avalanche and Sharp Rock by MT, making it one of the best Pokemon of this game to face Charizard and its speed stats are quite similar so with training, we could even attack it first. But if you want to go the easy way, take the Gyarados Shiny that you catch in the lake of fury or better yet, choose Totodyle as your starter.

11.png

There is something that must be made clear and that is that ALL his team has a particularity, and that is that they are weak in Physical Defense, this is something that we must certainly exploit if we want to beat him. Against Blastoise we omit this rule for two reasons, the difference between their defenses is only 3 points and there is no electric Pokemon obtainable in the game that has an attack that surpasses Jolteon's special attack. You must take into account that I am making this guide based on the Pokemon that you can get during a legal game of these versions, even so, there may be a better option to mine, everything is in doing a research like I did, if you have any suggestions, I invite you to leave it in the comments.

El entrenamiento. - The team.

This game is complex and is not only about catching the strongest and attacking, you must capture the Pokemon and train them, the natures are quite important especially at these high levels, so you have to know how to choose them well.

  • Mamoswine, Heracross and Growlithe have to go with more Attack than Special Attack, so the most recommended is the Adamant nature. Lonely and Naughty are also useful. If the pokemon you caught doesn't have one of these you should catch another one until it gets it or in the case of Heracross, as it is more difficult to catch, the best is to resort to Pokemon breeding, remember that the female Pokemon can increase up to 50% of probability of inheriting its nature if it has an eternal stone equipped, so in the case of Heracross the best is to catch a Ditto (outside the nursery) that has this nature we are looking for, equip it with the eternal stone and put it in the nursery with a male Heracross.

  • Jolteon needs to increase its special attack, so the best possible nature is Modest, but also Affable and Crazy. You will only get one Eevee so I recommend you to do the same for Ditto with Eternal Stone.
For Gliscor, we are looking to boost its speed, so the best option is the Cheerful nature, also serves the Active and Naive nature.

  • Vitamins help a lot but are quite expensive, so invest in them as much as you can always looking to enhance the stats that I mention above with each of your Pokemon, the Pokemon League with the Amulet Coin is an excelent way of eanr money to buy Vitamins in the Battle Frontier, or farm Battle Points there and buy Vitamins with it.

  • The recommended level to face Red is +70, taking into account that the strongest Pokemon of the champion Lance is 75 in the league rematch, you should not have problems training to reach Red, you can also have a rematch against the gym leaders, who will also be boosted.

  • This team serves for the Ingame but can be captured as you progress through the game, so you should be changing the Pokemon of your team from the beginning to build this team. Note that I leave a sixth space available for you to take the Pokemon that best suits you, either to pass the adventure or as a complement to your team, I recommend Totodile, you get it at the beginning, it is strong, grows fast and is a perfect Pokemon for almost all gyms, it is also an equally good option for Charizard, if you decide not to take Gligar.

  • I recommend you to play your game with Heracross, that works well in the third gym, Jolteo and Mamoswine that does well in the last gym, Growlithe only if you have experience in Pokemon games because it will cost you a little bit to take it in your team while you prepare it, and Gliscor I recommend you to train it in the PostGame and that all this preparation of training you carry out after having obtained the 16 medals, there are Pokemons here, as Heracross, Jolteon and Arcanine that you can take from always because they are very good, Mamoswine would be very good in the league against Lance if you manage to evolve it before, and Gliscor you won't be able to obtain it until passing the league at least once.

El enfrentamiento. - The Challenge

We have made all the preparations and we are ready for the battle, the path to Red is very linear, in the Silver Mountain there are some interesting objects and Pokemons, beyond that, there is nothing to do but to find Red and fight with him. He will come out first with Pikachu, so your first Pokemon should be Mamoswine.

1.png

3.png

2.png

The battle begins and the epic music starts playing and that powerful Pikachu appears, to give you an idea, I made an attempt before this at level 70 and Pikachu KO'd me with Iron Tail, so I had to keep training until I got to level 75. At the beginning of the second fight I was lucky that Pikachu missed Iron Tail, and with an Earthquake he fell with one hit, if you bring a Pokemon with the Thief attack, you can steal the Shining Ball from this Pikachu, it is highly recommended to do that.

4.png

5.png

7.png

6.png

Blastoise withstood the Lightning attack, then I poisoned him with Toxic and his second Blizzard plus the Hail weather would leave us with 1PS to fall in an epic way, as I said before Blastoise was his hardest Pokemon to beat and he did not disappoint, Snorlax followed, so I sent Heracross.

8.png

9.png

11.png

10.png

Heracross's Low Kick attack is a sure win against Snorlax, since its defense is low, Heracross's attack is high, Snorlax is weak to Fighting type and besides, it is slower, I had no way to survive that, when it fell, Charizard followed so I sent Gliscor, however Charizard would give us problems since Gliscor would miss the Avalanche attack and Charizard's Aerial Slash would weaken it, I could have used Jolteon with Thunderbolt but I wanted to be faithful to the team's plan so I sacrificed Mamoswine to revive Gliscor, in the revenge I wasn't going to miss the Avalanche that did x4 damage, weakening it in one hit. The next Pokemon was Lapras.

12.png

13.png

15.png

14.png

I did not know if Lapras would be a problem so I assured his fall by taking out Jolteon and poisoning him with Toxico, which fell in that turn by Double Edge because it had only 1 HP but it fulfilled its objective leaving the status problem to Lapras, the damage by recoil plus the poison made Heracross weaken him with a single attack of A Bocajarro. This was very necessary because if he didn't fall with one hit, he was going to weaken us with Psychic, or with Blizzard, when Lapras fell, Venusaur followed.

16.png

17.png

19.png

18.png

His last Pokemon, Venusaur, although it is very strong, was sentenced to the attack of Envite Igneo of my Arcanine, the Pokemon that cost me more to train by far, so it was a satisfaction to see that all the time invested paid off making him a 1 hit KO, receiving damage by recoil and then by hail's weather, even so we would lose less than the half of Arcanine's HP and so, after all the work done, we get the victory in this spectacular fight, Red tells us nothing more that a few dots, admiting his defeat and leaves, and we are shown the credits.

20.png

11.png

You can challenge him again if you beat the High Command, and you can do it infinitely, you may feel that the battle was very short but that is a product of the extensive preparation I did from the beginning, which was the idea of this publication, if you wonder why I took a Skarmory, it's the MO slave of my team, that I use to fly and stuff like that, it's irrelevant because I didn't participate in the battle, if you dare to make your own run against Red I would like to know what team you used and what was your result, thank you very much for reading, see you.

Excelente post, excelente juego!
