Did someone🤔 ask⁉️ for 🏙️dCity 👨‍🎓📖lessons? Let's 🚀go! #1

We all seek to learn more, right?

This one was from this amazing suggestion on twitter! Thanks igster101 (Twitter profile)...

I am not sure if your profile on #HIVE is also @igster101, but if yes, you are an interesting one already! Lot's of people that know you, even without posts. Please say hello if you can...

Lesson #1 - Where the F... to start?!

As some people question me on Discord, the initial 💥BOOM🤯 in your face is challenging. But soon we will attempt to reduce the time to adapt, in order to get quickly having MORE fun!

Creator: @gerber
Support: Discord Server
Game Website: dcity.io

The first and most asked question for someone that wishes to find the best way to start dCity, might be, what shall I start with? Right? - Let's solve that problem right now!

How much you wanna invest?

Yeah... it kind of starts like that, to be honest. But let's assume small fish (up to 120 HIVE) for starters. I will cover other ranges on future lessons.

But, before getting into what I consider the best fast "cheap" approach, some essentials if I may...

dCity is a game that runs on #HIVE blockchain (along with a dedicated side-chain called Hive-Engine for feature enrichment while the next upgrade does not arrive), therefore you need an account there. It's FREE, so if you wish, grab one here.

Also, be aware that dCity does NOT have referrals and all the links in this page are sole to understand where I can improve my efforts. Not to grab a buck from you 😎.

Secondly, you will need one of the two:
Login:
(or)

Next! Where can you play?

The game is optimized for PC, but can also run on mobile phones browsers... the bigger the screen, the best! I prefer the PC... My choice 😍

#HIVE ready?

You have HIVE (ready to be spent) on your account, then you are good to go with this lesson! In alternative, you can also have ready the SWAP.HIVE token (HIVE equivalent on Hive-Engine). I will explain bellow further ahead.

  1. First, head to the Game Website and have a quick read (even if you don't understand all the information) on the Info page.
  2. Then, be mindful that the best way to start is almost always (my view) to by buying NFTs (🃏cards) from the random issuing generator. Just like a lottery! You have 1st edition and 2nd edition cards, at the time of this post writing. You can use HIVE or SIM (which if you are a new player might not have, unless you buy it in advance on the Hive-Engine market) to purchase them via here:
  3. At that menu, you can use HIVE or SIM to buy up to 30 cards. Alternatively, if you send multiples of 4 HIVE (or SWAP.HIVE) or 800 SIM to @dcitycards account, you can also purchase the cards the same way. Be mindful that if when doing that, if you do not fill the "Memo" field, you will be purchasing 1st edition cards, and when filling it with the word "new", you will be purchasing cards from the 2nd edition.
  4. Now, the fast path! For the 120 HIVE mentioned above, I would start with a 20 HIVE purchase on the 2nd edition cards. Then depending on if you need more "population" to work the cards that don't have workers (in red on the side panel) or if you have already some unemployment, choose to draw another 20 HIVE on cards (note, that this is only valid for starting players, in the late game, things turn around):
4.1. Buy 2nd Edition: if you need more population (forget about SIM income at this stage).
4.2. Buy ** 1st Edition**: if you have unemployment and need more work for your lingering population.
  5. After the first 40 HIVE on cards, you should start getting a perspective of how things are going to flow. In terms of SIM, workers, population and soon to become very important, the popularity. At this stage, you can start adventuring yourself on the market, trying to find 1 up to 4 HIVE on cards that might improve your ratio of workers requirements and unemployment (you can only BUY cards there with Hive-Engine tokens). Be aware that the best advantage is to never sacrifice SIM winning, so keep your cards "worked". The target is to have 0% unemployment and all cards "worked".
  6. I would advise (if you need to settle for a while and assimilate information) to wait a day. The reason behind it is related to gambling. You need a fresh mind to think straight again. Also, it gives you time to re-read information, familiarize with the UI (user interface) and check the market for the flow of the card prices. Also, remember that we are on Discord. There are lots of help to support you around. Don't be shy! We are going to eat you ALIVE 👹 - 🤣 Not really... Just try to have some fun!
  7. Right, 44 HIVE on (11) cards. Let's consider you need to get another 10 cards (40 HIVE) to balance things as I mentioned before. Then still come back to the 2nd edition ones! yes... you will need some more to figure it out what to do next. Spend 20 and then another 20 HIVE... so you have time to understand if the strategy is right. If on the first draw you need to many workers, draw the second 20 HIVE on the 2nd edition. 1st edition cards can either give you lots of "work" slots or lots of population (when considering a limited amount of cards, like 10 or 20).
  8. You are now at 84 HIVE worth in cards. 36 HIVE left... At this point, you should make a decision. Are you going to focus on SIM, Education, Homeless-Immigrants conversion, or Ranking? It's important that you only focus on one of them at the beginning. Otherwise, it can draw you to not see the best return or get your strategy messed up. Then, use the remaining 36 HIVE to either balance what you already have (using the market) or issuing a few more cards on the 2nd edition most likely. 1st edition will get you a LOT of work slots at the start...
  9. Lastly, about some of the stats, to get you acquainted:
9.1. Population, some cards will add base population to your city. This might not be the actual effective population of your city if you have popularity > 0.
9.2. Popularity, some cards will increase (non-linear) the popularity of your city, multiplying it (in %) against the base population. Making it your effective population.
9.3. Workers (not the card) are the amount of population you need for a card to be "worked". If a card is not worked, it will not generate SIM income.
9.4. Popularity is always effective on cards, even if you don't have enough population to work the card.
9.5. You can't have less than 0 popularity! But any negative popularity will reduce your total, up to zero (0). Some cards like the garbage dump, have -15 popularity until you have a certain diversity of cards in your city.
9.6. For you to start researching cards, you need a research centre at least and to unlock at least one of the technologies.
9.7. Some cards will generate other tokens beside SIM. Like BEER, GAMER or WEED.
9.8. You can experiment clicking on the cards on the side right pane, to experiment with disabling/enabling that specific card and plan how your city gets affected with that card.

Right... that should get you started!

See you at the next lesson. If you have any questions, please drop them below or feel free to contact me anywhere else. I might sometimes take (very rarely) more than 24 hours to respond, but normally I am pretty responsive.

An awesome and to the point guide for beginners to get started on dCity. Thank you @forykw for sharing. I highly recommend reading this post as a beginner.

Looking forward to reading your next post. I can feel more exciting lessons are coming in the next post. ;)

This is an awesome guide. I only wish I had seen it a few days ago lol. I have two twitter accounts. igster101 is supposed to be my 'everyday" stuff. Athomewithcraig matches my #Hive account. I had one for igster and stupidly lost the keys to that.
Thanks for the quick response and fast posting of this guide. It's very much appreciated.

😀 Still on time 😎

Anyway, this is not bulletproof but should give most users a great start. Of course, I am always looking for feedback and your own view of how it looks like a great start.

There are multiple options... again, depends on how much you will invest.

I have a lesson planned for rich people too LOL

Alas rich people have more to invest 😂🤣 as for me, I'm taking it slow. Adding a thing or two daily. Biggest challenge so far is growing population without having unemployment.

Also, it will be good to read about the absolute must haves for beginners, middle users (like when you've reached a certain population number), and pros. But at the end of the day, it's dependent on the player's strategy.

I look forward to reading more guides 😉👍🏼

I was coding bash scripts yesterday... and while waiting for the result of some stuff, decided actually to start this... as on the weekend, I am not sure if I will have time. Depends on COVID.

Good call man - it'll make a great series, and actually fits nicely in the #hivehustlers community feed as it's a way to build up passive income ;)

I hope I saw this post before I started my game using my @kingdom-raftel account.
Should have planned it better, but I think I am getting a hang with my game, just lacking some workers. Just need to have more Hive to buy more :D

Don't forget you can drop a proposition on the discord channel and ask for other alternatives methods of trading what you want if not yet available.
