Socks from Leftovers

(Edited)

I finished this WIP on a trip to Virginia Tech this past week. While sitting in the car as hubby was driving to a conference and while relaxing in the hotel room between activities, I knit. I had both socks on the needles at the same time so I could knit on them alternately and be sure they came out the same.

They begin at the top with a loose cast-on and half-brioche stitch. It's a very stretchy rib, great for 80s style "slouch socks." The stretchiness means they can accommodate the heel without shaping, so here's to tube socks. Vacation knitting should not require dividing for the heels and counting increases and decreases.

After the ankle and heel, I switched to plain stockinette stitch because my first brioche tube socks, though I love them, are not comfortable in shoes because the rib pattern is too bumpy under the balls of my feet. Flat, tiny, close stitches make a more comfortable sole. I made a regular toe with the decreases at either side of the foot, so the sock is not radially symmetric, but it has no top or bottom so it should wear well. I find a round toe just doesn't fit well with my wide feet.

The color scheme began with the self-patterning brown/blue/white yarn left over from an old project. I had some light brown acrylic baby yarn and some blue sock yarn left over from other projects as well. The match was good enough, so I had fun, changing colors occasionally to keep things interesting.

As soon as I finished, I cast on another pair of socks in a nice dark green. I finished the top ribbing and am deciding if these will be plain socks, striped socks, or a riot of fair isle patterns.

You did very well in making a jersey on the part of the foot so that it feels better in the shoe, the socks in that color combination look beautiful. It's good that it has two needles to make two socks at the same time 🤗

I used 2 identical sets of 5 double-pointed needles. I have a big collection of sock needles. Thanks for reading and commenting. !CTP

Here I have not been able to find double pointed needles, only the circular ones, it is sad because I would love to use them

My previous @v4vapp proposal has expired. I have a new one which is running but unfunded right now. I'm still running @v4vapp and all my other services.

I've just updated v4v.app and I'm getting ready for some exciting new features after the next hard fork.

Please consider asking your friends to vote for prop #265 or consider unvoting the return vote.

For understandable reasons in the current crypto climate it is harder to get funded by the DHF, I accept this so I'm asking a wider audience for help again. I'll also add that I power up Hive every day and usually power up larger amounts on 1st of the Month. I'm on Hive for ideological reasons much more than for only economic benefit.

Additionally you can also help with a vote for Brianoflondon's Witness using KeyChain or HiveSigner

If you have used v4v.app I'd really like to hear your feedback, and if you haven't I'd be happy to hear why or whether there are other things you want it to do.
