Listen To Your Heart

Today, I was just challenged with the question “How Can I Better Improve My Posts” (or content in general). The one thing that kept creeping into my mind over and over as I tried to answer the question is…follow your heart.

For so long, I have tried to be what others thought I was supposed to be or said what I thought others wanted to hear. I know I am not alone in this. We often do this and when that happens we lose track of who we really are. This happens so often because it’s very easy to do and truth be told, I still struggle with this as a grown adult.

It took me a LONG time to start writing and creating on this blog. I have owned this domain for years now and only recently (this year) have I started to put “pen to paper” with it. I used to sit in front of my computer screen and struggle so much with coming up with content because I was constantly trying to write things that I thought others wanted me to write. Now, please don’t take that as me saying that I don’t care what you think because I honestly always want to write things that provide value to you and I love learning what those topics are as you provide feedback to me! I do care what others think. When someone tells you that they don’t care what others think, that should scare you. Caring about other peoples opinion is not the same as how you let their opinion effect you. I have just learned that I attract much more “success” when I am genuine and authentic and that goes both online and offline.

Once I was able to let go of that idea that I had created (that I needed to write specific things)…my creative content started to flourish. Sometimes, so much that I couldn’t keep up and I’d be weeks ahead in posts!

I LOVE when that happens!

There is no specific topic you need to speak on as long as you’re speaking from the heart. The cool thing about Hive is just that! There are communities for many different topics and if it doesn’t exist, you have the ability to create it and connect with like minded individuals….

“If you build it, they will come”

Just always be yourself and listen to your heart!

Thank you @ctpsb for the challenging question and inspiration to write this post!

This is a great post and food for thought indeed.

I know this is something I have struggled with many times. I have read many articles and posts online where it is recommended to find a topic or a specific niche and then only write on that specific topic. Apparently, in that way, people start seeing you as an expert in that particular area and that is how you then start getting more followers/readers.

Yet, this is the second time I come across someone who says quite the opposite. I have previously also read an article of a very successful blogger (I can't even recall exactly who it was), but I can remember he said the exact same thing as you.

Apparently, he was always struggling and just couldn't become successful or find any satisfaction from his blogging. Until one day when he just decided to be himself and enjoy his blogging. After making this decision, he became successful and never looked back.

Reading your post was just the confirmation I needed about this! Thank you so much for sharing this post!

Thank you. I'm glad it helped you. I think that the term "expert" is over used on the internet. The whole fake it until you make it thing never really worked for me because I felt like a liar. It's much easier to just be me. I don't have thousands of readers or followers on my email list or blog but those that I do have are there because they want to hear/read what I have to say because I try to be real and honest with them.

I personally think it's a much better approach!

Thanks so much for your comment! :)

It feels like you should write what others want to read, doesn't it?

Once you start writing for you people that know, like and trust you will begin to support you every post. It's the 'organic' track to success.

Thanks for another great post Janelle. I appreciate it.

It does. But when you are first starting out you might not know what that is. I figure, just be yourself and write about things that are from the heart and eventually you'll find your niche and like minded people in it :)

Thanks Tom.

I'm very happy to have been able to inspire you for this great post :-). I think that you mention something very important and it has to do with finding our own voice.

Often people think that they need to bring their business forward and if they write too much personal things they will miss an opportunity to get referrals or sales. I believe it's the contrary that happens. When you speak with your voice and you let your own personality transpire in what you are doing, people start to know and like you for what you are.

I had a very interesting anecdote here on the blockchain. I one got an e-mail of somebody that read my posts on hive. He wrote to me that he liked my posts very much and he looked up my website and signed up with about 5 programs. He didn't sign up because these programs seemd good but he signed up because he started to trust me and believed that my consel was worth it...

You know, it's funny I have recently experienced the same thing with someone who emailed me saying a similar thing. It's so often forgotten by so many. I wrote a blog post on this a month or so ago. I'd rather have those readers (he was from my email list) over 1000 that never respond. You are right though - it is because I opened up a bit instead of just writing generic sales pitches. It works!

I'm glad to hear you had a similar experience. I think it opens a totally new world of opportunities when we inclued ourselves into the mix.

Thank you for posting this Janelle @jangle! You have been an inspiration to me for many years. Yes, you kind of dropped out of the picture for a while but I was so happy to see you come back in a big way recently. I look above to higher powers for guidance in what I think, say and do. It seems I get so much that I don't know what to choose from. It is coming though and I will be posting soon. Keep on keeping on and Blessing to you and your followers.
