Why You Should Never Stop Learning

Learning.png

We are living in an age of "instant gratification". Everything is happening fast. Everything is moving fast. The faster the better...

These days we associate success with speed. In business, we need results...fast. We want the solution to any problem...fast. People are even being taught that if they want to be successful and have the image of being successful, they have to walk fast and move fast.

While there is nothing wrong with speed or getting things done fast, it becomes dangerous when we lose perspective and just become obsessed with the idea of getting everything quickly...or seeing results fast.

In a world with modern technology, we are developing a culture where people just want everything and they want it fast. We get spoilt and the average attention span of the individual today is measured in seconds. If you cannot capture an individual's attention within the first few seconds, you've lost him.

I even see it in normal person-to-person conversations. If person "A" doesn't say something that is personal or very exciting to person "B", within a matter of moments person "B" would start fiddling with his cell-phone or get distracted by someone or something else.

When he is asked for a response, it would sometimes be some silly response or he would just have no response at all...clearly not having an idea about what the other person was saying.

It is the same in potential business opportunities. It is almost as if people either expect things to magically happen or it has to be done for them. It's as if people have lost touch with reality. They see or read about an opportunity, get involved, and just see dollar signs. And then they want to sit back and watch those dollars come marching in the front door.

We need to realize that we cannot have the apple if we didn't plant the tree first.

Remain Teachable

Secondly, we need to develop a willingness to always continue learning.

It is dangerous when you reach the point where you become un-teachable.

I recall a story that I have known for many years.

It is about a very highly educated professor who heard about a wise old Japanese master. From everything he has heard, he realized that he actually might learn something from this old Japanese master.

Japanese.png

So, he set out and managed to make contact with the old master and made arrangements to visit and spend some time with the old Japanese master.

On arrival, the old Japanese master welcomed him in a friendly manner and invited him to sit down so they can first enjoy a cup of tea.

The old master's wife left the room to prepare some tea for them.

While waiting for the master's wife, the professor thought it well to start telling the old Japanese master about all his achievements and discoveries. While he was still telling the master about all his awards and the knowledge he has gained over the years, the master's wife returned with the tea to be served.

The master's wife neatly placed the tray with the tea-pot and cups on the little table between the two men. The master picked up the tea-pot and without saying a word, just started pouring some tea into the professor's cup while the professor was still talking.

Soon, the cup was full and the tea started spilling over into the saucer. Yet, the old Japanese master calmly kept pouring. Eventually, the tea started spilling over onto the table.

The professor noticed this by now and nervously jumped up while pointing out to the master that he is spilling the tea.

The master stopped and calmly said: "Just like cup was too full, your head too full. No space for me to put any knowledge. First, empty head to make space, then we can put knowledge again."

Learning never stops. The school of life ends the day we leave this earth.

Every day that we wake up, is an opportunity to learn something new or improve a skill that we have.

Be Willing To Change

Don't get so set in your ways that you are not willing to change.

There is a saying that you cannot teach an old dog new tricks. Hey, remove that saying from your vocabulary...you're not a dog to start off with...lol.

There are two statements that we hear often these days...

  • "Wow, these are stressful times we are living in right now!" or
  • "Wow, we are living in exciting times!"

Which one do you choose to believe? Please note, I did not ask "which one do you believe"... I asked, "Which one do you choose to believe"...

Everything in life is a choice. It doesn't matter which of the two statements you choose to believe, you will find people to support that belief.

So, who are you going to listen to? Is your glass half-empty or is it half-full?

What you believe is what matters. If you say you can, you're right. If you say you can't, you're right. Which is it going to be?

The fact that nobody can deny, is that things are rapidly changing. It's not going to happen soon. It's here! And crypto is here to stay.

You can call it a gimmick. You can call what's happening to bitcoin right now a bubble, you can call it whatever you want. It's here and it's here to stay. The world as we know it is going to change. It is busy changing.

Are you going to be willing to change and learn about what is happening or are you going to resist and "refuse to change"?

Billionaires are investing their assets in crypto. Multi-Billion dollar companies are investing their assets in crypto. That is what they call "smart money". These people know what they are doing and they would not make these moves blindly.

Do you still want to know why you should never stop learning?

Join any of the communities (one or more) on the #Hive blockchain and learn about crypto. Even better, while you learn about crypto, start earning while you are learning.

If you want to learn more about marketing, join the Click Track Profit community.

If you want to learn about crypto and finances, join the #LEOFINANCE community.

Whatever your interest is, there is a very good chance that you will find a community on that topic.

Wow, WOW wow, 100 percent upvote. Reblogged. Tweeted.

What an amazing, well written, well thought out post. I have to agree 100.

I would love to see some sort of study of how the new fast paced business environment compairs to what I consider the good old way of learning, education, knowing your customers.

That is what I love about Hive, CTPTALK, and LEO. You can get to know people, take it slow, develop relationships.

Yes, it would be very interesting to see the kind of study that you mention in your comment indeed. I would love to see that too.

I fully agree with you. The fact that you can get to know people and take your time to build relationships is what makes this platform special! I believe it is something that is highly neglected due to the fast pace of modern-day living. Yet, here we have the privilege to pay attention to what is important.

Thank you for your valuable input!

Welp, this was pretty much the best thing I've read all week lol

Great stuff man and I loved the importance of remaining teachable.

I was a cocky kid a few years ago and thought I knew it all, almost ruined me and my business and I'm still trying to fix things because of the simple fact that....

I thought I knew it all.

Great reminder to humble ourselves.

Thank you for the nice words, Jon! I'm glad you enjoyed my post!

Yes, when you become un-teachable, all red lights are coming on! You actually rob yourself from learning new things and often miss out on good opportunities.

What you say about yourself...you have clearly learned from that experience and have turned it into something positive which you can apply today.

I take my hat off to you for that. So often when things go wrong, people start blaming other people, circumstances...or anything they can think of... But they refuse to be accountable for their own actions and to take responsibility to change themselves.

Wow that was very well said @jacoalberts, and I especially like that story of the professor and the Japanese Master, we should keep on learning at our own pace and see the way forward which is right for us, keep up your great work, it's awesome.

I absolutely LOVE that story! It is SO true.... we are so used to having to announce our achievements & things we have learned that we forget that we are beings that have the need to change, grow, learn & evolve. Change is our only constant & within that comes learning. When we stop learning, our livelihood also stops...

I admit, I get caught up in the fast paced world just as much as the next person. But I am working on being more mindful of things - in my routines, in relationships & even in daily life. Sometimes, we just need to slow down & BE.

Balance is key in all of this. Once we find that sweet spot, then we can go forward in a much healthier & happier path. :)

This topic was really interesting & I love your writing flow. It is always a joy to read your posts! Keep sharing & keep being Awesome 👍🙂💚

Wow! That is so true what you say there!

And it sounds like a recording of myself when you say...

Sometimes, we just need to slow down & BE.

...I have found myself often saying to my wife and my daughters (including to myself...lol), "just slow down and stop trying to be successful or this or that... and just BE"!

I cannot agree with you more!

That was amazing! And so few people understand this!
I do sometimes have my cup full but that's the time you need to slow down to stop, take a few sips, and then you can go back to fill it :)
A neverending cup of tea! And I do love tea lol
Always be open to learning new things! And the change is unavoidable, whichever it is! Up to you to learn about it so you know how to adapt and adjust.

Thank you for your comment and the nice words, I do appreciate it!

Learning new stuff should be a daily task, especially nowadays where almost all knowledge is at our fingertips.

I think your statement is absolutely spot-on! If we don't make learning a daily task, all this knowledge can become overwhelming trying to absorb too much at once...

Cheers! Enjoy your day!

This is the money quote:

The master stopped and calmly said: "Just like cup was too full, your head too full. No space for me to put any knowledge. First, empty head to make space, then we can put knowledge again."

I've gotten to the point that if I run into resistance when trying to share information, I politely move on. We each only have so many trips around the Sun need to spend them with those who still have a thirst for knowledge.

I totally get what you mean in this comment. And I agree with you 100%, we definitely need to be more aware of who we spend our time with...that is so true.
