It's Too Good To Be True

Income.png

This post is about something I often see and hear about...and not only on the internet. As a matter of fact, there are two things...

It is common knowledge by now that there are so many scams out there that we cannot even keep up with all of them.

But the first thing I want to mention that I often hear is how many times people get warned against these scams. We often hear the warning "If you think it's too good to be true, it is!" We hear this often from experienced investors, entrepreneurs, business owners, etc.

Yet, the second thing I often hear is how many people are still walking right into the traps of these scammers in spite of all the warnings.

Please, help me understand this? Everybody gets warned to be careful and not to believe everything. Yet, every week you hear on the news about more victims who got ripped off. People often lose their entire life savings. And then they even admit (in between all the sobbing) how "they thought it was too good to be true, but it looked so legit"...

They would even say how shocked they are because they told the person that this is their life savings and if they lose this they won't have a penny to their name... "but we still got scammed"...

Well...with all due respect, but since when do you think any criminal (scammer) is going to care about your well-being?

I get furious when people get robbed like this. But on the other hand, how many times must you be warned before you learn your lesson.

I am not saying that you should say "no" to every opportunity that comes your way. And it is possible to lose a lot of money when doing business or by investing. Sometimes things really look realistic, legit, and above board. And then, when you least expect it...everything just gets pulled from underneath you and you fall flat on your face.

Yes, that is possible, but I am talking about these obvious "it's too good to be true" type of scams.

Okay, enough moaning and groaning for now... What triggered me was an "article" I read yesterday about this new so-called "Bitcoin System" that is going to be introduced in South Africa. According to this "article" (which I quickly realized was one big scam), this program is even backed by the South African president and some ministers from parliament.

They mentioned how a single mother of two, invested the minimum of R3000.00 and within the first two hours her investment went up to R26000.00+. She is now earning an average of R75000.00 per month and just works when she feels like it. The rest of the junk I don't know, because I've had enough. It was something about some auto trading bots or something... I don't know and frankly, I don't care...

It took one online search to find an article where the South African president denied having any knowledge of such a system. Yet, how many people are still going to fall for this? They just hear "president" and see an image of the president and "Wow, this is too good to be true but it is so legit because I can see an image of the president!"

My sister came to me with the scam where a Nigerian Prince has been left an inheritance of $10 million dollars. Of course, in order to receive this money, he needed to pay a "processing fee" of $1500. If she would kindly wire him the money, he would share $1 million dollars with her.

I had to explain that this scam was almost as old as the internet itself and not to fall for it. But when I tell her to buy some Bitcoin, she says she doesn't trust it. So, we can all do our part, but some people have to learn on their own.

Thank goodness your sister at least came to you before just falling for that scam!

Even though she doesn't trust Bitcoin, at least you saved her from losing $1500.

And I believe once you have fallen for one of these scams, they often target you with other scams as well!

So, we can all do our part, but some people have to learn on their own.

That is so true! What just blows my mind is how many times some people need to get ripped off and robbed before they actually learn! Wow, what an expensive way of learning?

Thanks for your comment and for sharing the experience you had with your sister and the Nigerian prince. I appreciate it.

I hope your sister has decided to listen to you regarding Bitcoin in the meantime...:)

The old legacy financial system requires capital. The new blockchain systems won’t. New rules..new game.

I didn't hear about that South African scam, but I regularly receive all kinds of scam messages, emails, etc... I don't even bother to look at them...

Yes, I know that there are some airdrops that are kind of "free money", but for receiving them, you had to DO something in the past, and in 99.99% you don't have to pay "fee" to get it...

And why people fall on scams? It's always the same... Search for easy money, or easy button, greed, laziness... All the best things in humans... :)

Great post! These kinds of posts have to be visible for many, just like a reminder to always research everything between doing any "investment"!

It popped up in the news feed I have on my phone. It looked like a normal newspaper article. It didn't take me long to see it for what it really is though...

I get that. But as you say...you have to DO something and you don't have to pay a fee. This one has been "sugar-coated" as being an "investment".

And why people fall on scams? It's always the same... Search for easy money, or easy button, greed, laziness... All the best things in humans... :)

Wow! You couldn't have said it better! Spot on! That says it all!

Thank you so much for your input and for leaving your comment, Zoltan! I do appreciate it!

So true and thanks a lot for mentioning my account. Very much appreciated!

Just one more thing to add, when you start investing. Stop trying to get rich in one month, but instead think about the next decade. Over a decade a little bit every day starts to really add up.

You're welcome and I mean every word I say, I have learned a lot (and I am still learning) from reading your posts! Please continue with your great work.

Just one more thing to add, when you start investing. Stop trying to get rich in one month, but instead think about the next decade. Over a decade a little bit every day starts to really add up.

That is a very important point that you are making. Thanks for adding that!

Thank you for leaving your comment and your valuable input!

You’re welcome and it means a lot to me that you say that.

Also, I’m mostly just repeating what others took the time to explain.

This blockchain tends to have a 7 day memory, so some things just need to be said over and over again.

I have not heard about that South African scam before, but scams are really all around, and I just ignore them when I see them, but as you said there are a lot of people who don't.

There was this older neighbor and he fell for a Nigerian Prince scam, and he completely refused to listen to anyone telling him it was a scam, he was promised 2 Billion Dollars in cash, and kept sending them money because it "got stuck in Japan" or some other bullshit that they came up with, it only stopped after he was put under governance or what you call it, basically he was no longer trusted to handle his own economy.

It is really sad to see, and he still refuses to believe it was a scam, but thinks the government would not let him have the money.

If people are this gullible it's no wonder that the world looks like it does, let's just hope that it will get better.

Keep up your great work.

This is so tragic about your neighbor! And it is unbelievable that he still refuses to believe it was a scam! Yet, there are so many people who think like this!

If people are this gullible it's no wonder that the world looks like it does, let's just hope that it will get better.

This is very true! It is sad but true. As you say, let's just hope it will get better. The biggest challenge is that people must be willing to learn.

Thank you for your comment and your kind words, I really do appreciate it!

So long as there is incentive for creating a scam, they will continue to pop up I think, and if there is there will also be people willing to fall for them, we can't save everyone but we can point out the ones we see and inform the people we know about it.
