Market Friday- Baliwag's Lechon Manok

Good day guys!

This is my entry for Market Friday by @dswigle.

Before going to my girlfriends place, she asked me to buy Lechon Manok(Roasted Chicken) from Baliwag.

Here's a bit of History of this business. According to their website, There was a lechon Manok craze during the 1980's and there was a lot of competition in this industry.

A couple named Dwight and Dolores Salcedo were trying out new ventures to add more income to make ends meet. During 1985, they had two little babies so they decided to take a risk and pooled 5000 Php from their savings and borrowed another 5000 Php from their parents to put up a Lechon Manok Kiosk at Project 8, Quezon City. They named it Baliwag because Dolores was born at Baliwag, Bulacan. The recipes of their dishes was made with the help of their cousin of Dolores, Boy. They let their family members, former school mates, and officemates taste the original recipe and adjusted it accordingly.

From then on, their business grew and when I summed up their branches they currently have 217 Branches operating all over the country. Baguio City has 5 branches.

Here are the different food that they are selling Lechon Manok, Liempo, Crispy Pata, Cripy Ulo, Chikititas(Fried Chicken) Chicharon, Siopao and drinks.

That piece of paper says,
DEAR CUSTOMERS

For the Health, Safety and Well being of all our customers and employees, the following are now a must in purchasing our product.

WEAR FACE MASK AT ALL TIMES
PLEASE MAINTAIN AT LEAST 2 METERS TO OBSERVE PHYSICAL DISTANCING

I'm just glad that most of the establishments are already implementing this to reduce the spread of Covid 19

I ordered 2 whole chickens. 1 whole chicken costs 290 php or that's around 5.96 United States Dollar. You can watch them cut the chicken.

As you look closely you can see them roasting the chicken. You could already smell the aroma of the chicken form here and it smelt really good. That green bag is their packaging.

Here's a photo of their chicken. What I love about their chicken is that it's very juicy even the white meat is juicy and flavorful. That's why I prefer getting chicken here compared to the other stores.

Nostalgic for me, this post. When I used to work in Manila, Baliwag lechon manok was the staple whenever we wanted to eat roasted chicken. This post brought back memories of how delicious it tasted then, and I supposed until now. The price of Php 290 is a bit of a shocker because here in Davao we can still buy lechon manok anywhere from Php 190 to 210. But then, prices in Manila and Luzon are quite higher than here in the province. Enjoyed reading this post. Great job.

It still tastes delicious until now. Wow, Roasted chicken is a lot cheaper in Davao. I hope that I'll be able to find a place here that would sell it that cheap and is flavorful.

Thank you so much for all you compliments po. Stay safe always :)

Holy cow... (I mean pig). I love LECHON! But the lechon that I had was roasted whole pig. So that is chicken.
Thanks for sharing. I am hungry now, LOL!
Have a great day, and take care 🥰🌺🤙

I will take you up on that offer, @sgbonus, if ever I make it back to your country! Yikes, so now my mouth is watering. I love most the belly part f the roasted lechon... I recall shreds of juicy meat, and hardly any fat at all except for the super crunchy crispy skin! YUMMY!!!! 🥰🌺🤙

How you described the roasted lechon is getting me hungry also, because of covid, there's less lechon right now. Usually that's what they serve during parties haha. I miss crunch whenever I bite into that skin. Hope we'll be able to get one soon

Absolutely delicious!! Your girlfriend has good taste! Roast chicken that is done similar to that with the right spices thrown in, and I am in!!!

They have such a great story there, I love to see the little people do well. Humble starts oftentimes lead to success. I like that they haven't sold their soul and taken the money and run, although sometimes, it makes sense.

I hope that you and your girlfriend had a wonderful meal, I know that is my go-to easy dinner. And I never eat out, but, I do love chicken this way! Bon appetite!
