MarketFriday | Visit to Artisans D'Angkor (Siem Reap, Cambodia)
Inspired by #marketFriday by @dswigle
After two and a half days in Phnom Penh, we traveled to Siem Reap on our third day in Cambodia back in February. It was a 5-hour ride via Mekong Bus Express. We were used to long road trips back home, so this was actually a short trip for us.
As it turned out, the afternoon in Siem Reap was spent going around shopping, an activity that I previously mentioned we're not too fond of. LOL! But it was a different experience, as one of the places we visited was the Artisans D'Angkor.
The Workshop (A Visual Tour)
I actually enjoyed our visit to this place. It was a huge place that is divided in two parts. The first was the workshop. It's a sort of factory where items for decor and all were handmade and crafted to perfection. They were imitating the art that could be found in the Angkor Wat. The second part was the shop where they sell the final products. We were truly impressed with the quality of the handcrafted materials. However, most were rather pricey.
The workshop or production area was actually divided into many areas. There was the wood carving room. There were areas for other materials like stone, jade, and even metal. They also had a weaving room. All handcrafted materials from the smallest to the largest were produced in this workshop.
The items in the workshop were in their raw forms, still awaiting finishing touches. These photos are just some of the examples that we saw. There were so much more to experience there. It was amazing! What is more amazing is that the fine details were made by hand individually. They had tools to help them cut through the materials, but most were really done by the workers by hand.
The Store (A Visual Story)
The funny thing here was that we took some photos while inside the store area. We didn't know that it was not allowed, but since we already took the photos, I might as well share them here.
The final products were pretty amazing! They were even more amazing than the raw items. Most were a bit expensive for my taste. But if in the future I would need some home decor, I would want to go back and get some really good ones from here. They would be perfect for an Eastern theme.
Above images were taken from outside the store. The following ones are from the inside. Just like the workshop, the shopping area was also divided in different parts. It was arranged per section such as in a department store. Now that I think about it, I wonder too if they were badly affected by the shutdown of businesses too.
The painted tile section was my favorite. I didn't have a place to put any decor yet as I am still not done with my home improvement projects. I would have loved to have some of these tiles for home decor. They were truly lovely.
It was such a huge place and so lovely too. I hope you enjoyed the tour with me on this #marketFriday. I think I have a couple more places to share from our trip last February. I will try and work more on my posts. This lockdown has gone on too long, and it will be further extended till 15th of May (for now...) I definitely need to keep working on my motivation.
Be safe and well, wherever you are in the world!

Great post!
thank you! :)
The products made by the artisans in the workshop looked beautiful. No wonder they were on the pricey side!
So true! Amazing works of art indeed. Keep safe :)
wow, the art work is really amazing.😍
It truly is! We enjoyed our visit there :) keep safe!
ya it seems though, I you should have enjoyed a lot there.
The artisans in the workshop made such amang products! The first picture looks like they have painted on tiles, but, I am trying to figure out what they have used to paint on it. It is gorgeous and I can see it living at my house! It is gorgeous!
How fortunate for you to get pictures of them working on their products! How cool that you got to take a tour there. Certainly is a very high end place. The prices only reflect the expertnes of their work. I liked that piece, it look like a bronze carving... there is so much here that I like to look at. If I were doing an Eastern theme, this store would surely be on my radar. Cambodia is one of those countries that I have not been to yet, and look forward to getting there after (long after) this world crisis ends. I am so happy your brought us there. The shop is absolutley exquisite!
It is always a pleasure to see you join #MarketFriday. It is because of people like yourself that the challenge has become a success. There are times that it is so difficult to get a post together, to put so much effort when you have so little time. There is a certain sense of warmth in my heart, and it is that of being thankful.
