So, There Was an Election...

There was a time — I suppose — when I was a little more excited about the political process.

Whether I have changed and become more cynical, or the nature of politics has changed I'm not entirely sure about, but I found myself remarkably UN-interested in the recent and ongoing debacle known as the US Presidential election.

I felt like I was presented with the choice between a boor and an increasingly senile (or cognitively deficient?) dude. Not pretty. Not pretty at all.

But what is a "President," anyway? A figurehead mired down in endless paperwork and regulations; the person who gets to be the but of jokes and abuse as a result of decisions made by other — and often invisible individuals who are pulling the strings behind the scenes.

Meanwhile, now it looks like the courts — rather than the voters — will ultimately decide who wins the election. How's that for democracy... NOT?

In a slightly eerie turn of events, Bernie Sanders predicted this very outcome on the Tonight Show, ten days ago. Pretty much down to the letter...

I guess it will be a while before all the dust settles and there's an actual firm outcome that's not still being contested.

But how much difference does it all really make?

I can't truly remember having been "better off" or "worse off" to any significant degree during my adult life... that I could directly attribute to the person sitting in the Oval Office. Whereas I was better off during the Clinton years (my taxes as a lower income individual were lower, and Roth-IRA's became a reality) I can't with certainty say that was due to who was President. Or maybe it was...

Maybe it's just not worth dwelling on.

These are such strange times in which we live, and sometimes it seems like the show is run by the true nutballs and fringe dwellers, rather than by reasonable and rational people.

Maybe the best we can do is just try to Zen with it all.

Besides... I'm honestly more concerned about how I'm going to pay next month's electric bill, than who's President!

Meanwhile...

I decided to power up another 200 Hive or so, because it seems to truly be "on sale" at the moment.

Although it's by no means perfect, I still think this is a pretty cool community, and I plan to continue being part of the scenery here for as long as there's "something" here.

A wise man once told me that "investing in the things you USE" was as sound a strategy as any. So I guess that's what I'm doing. Missed Hive Power Up Day by a few... but oh well. I'm not formally "qualified," anyway.

And with that, I'm going to go back to doing something that has nothing to do with politics...

Thanks for reading!

The election determines which group of klyptocrats get the booty.

I've always believed that the people matter more than the leader. Unfortunately the shrill elections seem to be giving more power to the political class and slowly disenfranchising the people.

I believe that you have the right attitude about elections. Winning or losing an election is not as dire as people pretend.

It does seem like these elections make a lot of NOISE, but the bottom line is that things end up pretty much staying the same.

At times, it almost seem like elections serve mostly as an excuse for many people to get tremendously worked up, emotionally...

Elections have consequences. The problem is that few people take time to really examine the political system to understand to understand the consequences of an election.

Politicians use a strange type of new speak that allows them to do the opposite of what they say. For example, people might support a candidate who uses social justice rhetoric believing that this will create a more just society. The top heavy policies of the social justice candidate might make a less just society.

Another strange effect is that the sentiment of a nation often moves in the opposite direction of the leader. For example, Trump's reelection strategy was to push the opposition to the left with the idea that he could capture the center and get a second term.

The effect of the strategy is that Trump pushed the nation to the left.

Clinton used the same strategy. He pushed the GOP to the right to capture the center and pushed the nation to the right.

Personally, I think the world is suffering from excessive political and economic centralization. I am using HIVE because I hope crypto and decentralized finance might provide a partial remedy to this problem.

The shrill elections that we have seen in the last several decades tend to feed the forces of centralization.

Focusing so much attention on the big central elections ends up feeding the process of centralization.

I think that I can't care less for any politician on the globe... But, one thing is sure... The president of some country is the mirror of the nation, of people...
So, if guys in the US think that both the candidates are bad, well, you should work on yourself and do better next time...

And regarding HIVE... yes, the price is low... but, development on the chain is still pretty active, so buying more HIVE for this cheap price is no brainer... I can't understand the people who are selling it at the moment... It's just crazy...

Cheers!

It has been a long time since any candidates running for President in the US represent anything that approaches my personal values... for starters everyone would have to undo their greed and hunger for power. But greed and power hunger does seem to run rampant in this nation... perhaps because it has a louder voice than the alternative.

In the meantime, I plan to continue powering up Hive.

Well, you, I, and similar thinking people aren't in the majority in any country... lol... Which doesn't mean that we have to adapt to them... As a matter of fact, I'm always going in the opposite direction... lol

I like the pictures you have used in this post, quite a contrast to the content 🙂Makes you reflect on what's important in life. I used to follow US politics quite a lot but during the last years, I have lost interest. I do think the world is a scarier place if Trump stays in office but from my understanding, people have voted "anyone but Trump" rather than voting for Biden.

Politics in the USA is nutty! But I say that as someone who grew up in Denmark and I still lean more towards social democracy than any of the option here.

I hope things are going OK for you in Stockholm. At this point, I couldn't imagine trying to move back to Denmark... I like visiting, but not sure I would be able to adjust back into the culture, after all these years.

I really understand that, in fact, I feel I can't adjust to this place either, I'll put my flat on the market and see where I end up 🙂
