Akwa United Football Club is one of the Nigerian football club based in Uyo. it was a dream come true at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium which is the club's home stadium.

I seriously could not believe this will come true, Akwa United smiling home as the champions of the Nigeria Professional Football League as i said, for the very first time ever in their history in all this years.

sincerely speaking, at some point of their game in previous seasons, some how along the line i had lost interest for their game but today, the name they are fondly called, (The Promise Keeper), has been validated, the sealed their first league title some few hours ago following a super-fantastic or a comprehensive 5-2 win over MFM in the beautiful city of Uyo at the Nest of Champions.

You can see the outstanding display of Charles Atshimene from the 24th minute of the game, and was able to hit the net, again and again thereby setting the tone for what we have seen to be a goals’ feast.

from the start of the game, we had seen their determination to smile back in victory and also to be confirmed as champions, akwa united who played host had no other option than to the doubled their advantage early in the first half and we saw Alimi Adebayo doing a good finishing to Mfon Udoh’s cross into his own net.

This is very impressive, the first time the akwa united are winning the NPFL title since the club establishment in 25 years. for coach Kennedy Boboye, this is the second time he is winning the trophy, he also did it for Plateau United in 2017 when the also had the first wining of the league title

MFM arrived Uyo in a fantastic form after FC Ifeanyi Ubah 0-2 in Enugu in a rescheduled fixture to consolidate their position on the league table. A win over Akwa United in Uyo would have one they will relish but they knew it was an almost impossible task.

just like a joke, in about 24 minutes into the match, Charles Atshimene, amazingly sent a header into the back of the net , as usual, the supporters raised their voice in singing and that gave the hosts the lead.

the songs of the spectators at the Nest of Champions became alarming, dancing and hailing their team, the team was inspired to come out in search of more goals. at this point of the game, there was pressure on the opponent which force in an own goal just before half-time. we saw who Samuel Amadi’s effort was given a finishing into the net by Ubukama Peter after good pressure by Charles Atshimene.

Akwa United (the promise keeper) took a 2-0 lead into the end of the half time, at the time action resumed, Mfon Udoh was able to hit the net again with a stunning finish that supported by Ubong Friday, this made Udoh’s 8th goal of the season. i personally had believe that the clean sheet will be kept till finish but at the 67th minute when a penalty was awarded, Michael Mbonu sent the ball straight into the net.

As if that was not enough, Akwa united came out for more goals. As Substitute, Wisdom Fernando came in and made an immediate impact by loading an awesome cross for Atshimene to register his second goal of the day. just like the Nigerian movies, the MFM boys pulled the ball back but before the former Warri Wolves striker realize Atshimene hat-trick was sealed.

Sincerely the maiden league title was indeed a quality football experience for spectators at the Godswill Akpabio international Stadium, i must confess that this day is the day we have long been waiting for since 1997.

Thanks to Mr. Right, the Governor for the massive support, and the enabling environment. we are exited and we trust that the staying power will be upheld in the coming seasons.

Long live The promise keeper

More strength to the boys

more grace, more money

God bless Akwa United

God bless AkwaAbasi Ibom State

God bless Nigeria

It's a big thing for Akwa Ibom people and something the government is even priding about to have the team break many records as they pick up their first NPFL trophy

Great win from the uyo based club clinching their first league title. It was really an exciting win for them after remaining consistent all through the season and been rewarded for it. It is no easy achievement considering how tough the Nigerian league is.

Hope they get their desired benefits from the state government. Because they really deserve what they get. This could also help them going forward has would want to keep performing at their best levels. Would love to see them continue with the way they ended the season. Congratulations to them

Even duo am getting to see this very late, but of all, this is a very good one for the uyo based club who has been very proflic throughout the campaign and it is good to finally see them lifting the trophy,I must also say that they have proven that the Nigeria league is still very much well to be reckoned with.

Sincerely the maiden league title was indeed a quality football experience for spectators at the Godswill Akpabio international Stadium, i must confess that this day is the day we have long been waiting for since 1997.

I sincerely agreed with you that they did this after not playing in the top flight for a period and don't mind me ,if I decided to call them the licesteer of Nigeria premier league, congratulations to the Kennedy Boboye boys as they are the worthy Winner of the league base on thier performance so far.
