Jupiler League Week 2 Sunday Previews

These are previews from matches involving Belgian Teams with all the latest on team news, player form, injuries along with my personal betting angles, ...

It was not the best Saturday with the main position on Mechelen losing as they had somewhat of an off-day while Union clearly weren't as bad as they showed last week. I'm still kind of keeping my stakes on the low side so overall damage was very much limited with another change today to find some profitable betting spots with 4 interesting matches so here we go with the previews & bets...

Union vs Club Brugge

Union took a deserved win against a poor Anderlecht last week while Club Brugge didn't get further than a 2-2 draw against a good playing Eupen at home in the last second after 12 minutes extra time. Union is a promoted teams but they should have enough quality to comfortably survive the season and possibly even be the revelation. Money on the Asian market was heavy on them last week which turned out to be fully justified and money seems to be on them again this week as the odds one a Club Brugge win went from 1.500 as the opening line to now 2.104. Newly promoted teams always do well at home in their first match so it's understandable for money to be on the home side. I do think it's kind of an overreaction to Club Brugge not being able to win against Eupen at home while Union won against Anderlecht away. Mignolet, Vanaken, & Sobol are back in the selection but might not start the match. The main question is if I'm willing to oppose this big move as I do see Club Brugge still as the team to beat this season. The answer to that question is for sure not with big stakes pre-game, but the odds are good enough for me to have a small 0.2 unit bet on Club Brugge -0.5 @ 2.104 since Club Brugge did lead the rankings of Attempts (21) and Shots on goal (11) last week. I do expect a lot more in-game betting action on this match.

Zulte-Waregem vs Standard

Zulte-Waregem played an ok game against OHL last week in an open match where dominance switched between both teams who near the end settled for a 1-1 draw. Standard played a 1-1 draw at home against Racing Genk which was a fair result they mainly achieved because of their enthusiasm. This is what their coach mostly hammers on since they do seem to lack the sheer quality to really be counted as a top team right now. My notes of last week say that Standard is a team to oppose away from home and I way too often neglected these past seasons so this time I'm taking a small initial bet on the home team as the underdog. 0.2 units on Zulte-Waregem +0.25 @ 2.033 even though I don't fully trust them yet. (I also don't trust Standard one bit). I'm expecting a fairly even up and down match with a lot of enthusiasm from both sides with dominance switching between both. The corners also feel like a coin flip which made me take the tiny bit that was available one Zulte-Waregem +0.5 Corners @ 1.90. Goals in the 2nd half also is on my radar as a potential live bet.

AA Gent vs Beerschot

AA Gent showed not to be good enough last week away against STVV who where quite efficient. They are in a busy schedule and qualified for the next round in Europe during the mid-week losing 2-0 away in Oslo after winning the first match with 4-0. Striker Yaremchuk now officially was transferred to Benfica for 17 Million but they should be able to replace him with the quality they still have in their Squad. Beerschot did not really impress at home against Cercle under their new coach Maes. He stated that they will play offensive against weaker opponents but play the defensive counter game against good opponents. So I'm fully expecting a match where AA Gent will take all the initiative possible having a hard time breaking the defense. I don't trust AA Gent enough to back them as the favorite pre-game and there aslo is quite a lot of rain now here in Gent where I live so that might have an influence. Basically, I will wait it out seeing if anything interesting to take comes up in-game. No Pre-Game Bets

Antwerp vs Kortrijk

Antwerp got overpowered by Mechelen last weekend losing 3-2 after being 0-2 in the lead in what looked to be a quite slow match at the start. They lost a lot of quality and still have some important missings which makes it look like they are not fully ready yet for the new season. Kortrijk took an easy win without impressing against a poor Seraing who at the same time showed they aren't that bad yesterday. Odds seem to have been adjusted to the situation with Antwerp getting fairly high odds as the home team given their budget and the Status they have managed to build. I'm not willing to side with them unless they show they are worth it during the match. Kortrijk is still a difficult team to estimate as you just can't tell how much weight to put on the win against Seraing. This is another match where I'm just going to wait & see before possibly getting any bets in. No Pre-Game Bets
