Getting Good

I was driving today out to pick up my sister so we could go visit my grandmother in her long term care. It was a stunningly beautiful day. We seemed to have survived our heatwave and come out on the other side. Now we have air to breathe again! The sun was shining so bright. It was just a perfect summer day.

Those who know me know that I love country music so of course, the radio was on our local country station here on Prince Edward Island. A song came on that I had never heard before. The lyrics really struck a chord with me. They spoke to me on so many levels – my fears, my excuses, my anxiety that tends to run my life...seriously, so many levels!!

“And I didn’t hear a word ’cause I was thinking
About what hasn’t happened yet but will someday”

The words spoke on how we always tend to think life will get better once “we just get this...” or “when we get there” or “when we get older”...we’re ALWAYS waiting for something. The end of the song turns things around to say wait a minute, life is already good!

We are masters at excuses that keep us right where we are. It all boils down to fear. For whatever reason, we’re afraid to move forward. I think it’s probably just the unknown. Risks are scary. Finding a reason to stand still is much easier then taking that first step. You have a way less chance of falling on your face standing still...but you’ll also never know what it feels like to accomplish your goals.

“I’m thinking once I learn to grow right where I’m planted
Maybe that’s when life starts getting good”

What if we all had the ability to know that our life is already good? Not perfect….but good!

Imagine what we could accomplish?

We are so blessed. Yes there are ups and downs, challenges, loss, grief, heartbreak, risks, fears…all of it is scary as hell.

There is also love, memories, success, laughter, joy, winning, smiles...

Today, try to focus on the positive.

Try to take that first step.

Don’t wait for things to “get better"...

...….life is already good!

We are still surviving our heatwave. Yesterday, in Furnace Creek, CA (Death Valley National Park) the temp rose to 53.4 C. If it's verified today it will be the hottest recorded temperature on earth. Ever. About 100 miles from me.

Doesn't mean life isn't good! Today is Tortoise day for me. I've been watching a Desert Tortoise nest for 78 days and today is the first day they could hatch. I'm excited and Sam and I will go check in spite of the heat.

I'm convinced that fear, simple fear, is the most corrosive substance in our lives. I'm really glad you are dancing with your fear and bringing your joy into my life.

Thanks for a stupid good post Janelle. I really appreciate it!

Ugh...you're so right. Fear sucks! THAT kind of fear anyways. Sometimes fear can be used as a form of motivation within yourself....the type of fear/nerves a performer feels might help get their adrenaline going. But that's a whole level of personal growth that I'm nowhere near yet! Haha

we’re ALWAYS waiting for something.

Oh, my teenage son is killing me with this... but, I always give an excuse for him... he's a child... :) But, when there was a school, he was waiting for vacation, when vacation came, he waits for school, etc... :)

We had a conversation on this topic that he can't live like that, maybe something will get into his head... :) But, adults do that also... And I'm also guilty of this sometimes...

And there is no better example than the whole humanity is waiting for magical vaccine at the moment... how funny... and all that triggered by fear...

Very good example. In Canada it goes like this "I am so sick of this heat!......" 3 months later "I hate winter!!" haha

I love this message...yes, you are so right. We are all guilty of this way of thinking sometimes...."Oh I will be happier when I get this item" or "I will feel more fulfilled when I reach this goal"

Sometimes, we lose sight of what we already have & being in the present moment. Gratitude is a strong energy & if we remember that, we become content with what we already have (even if it's still manifesting ;)).

Being in the present moment & enjoying the journey is the thing we don't want to miss out on. It can be more rewarding than the end goal itself ;)

Awesome post, girl!! :) Thanks for the reminder! 💙

It's really hard to do but once you understand how powerful it can impact your life, it becomes easier to accomplish positive thinking. Thanks Jenn.

This is a very good point. There is nothing wrong with wanting more for the future but I think you want to never forget what you have now. We all probably get a little consumed with what could be, the main thing I guess is to not get to carried away with it.

What a great message Janelle... we should all be looking to what "We Can Be" in the future... I may be an old man, but I still find myself looking at what I can do to be better and what I can do to grow into a better person... I still have dreams for the future... despite knowing and understanding my mortality... Life is short... make the best of it while we are still here
