How to Create Your Own Success By Developing a Habit of Goal-Setting

If you want to be prepared for your future...start the habit of goalsetting.png
It's Monday and it's time to decide how we are going to get the most out of this week. Yes, it's time for goal-setting.

Goal-setting is not something we do once a year (in the first week of January). That is called "New Years Resolutions" and for the majority of people they are all out the window by the first week of February (if it lasted that long).

No, goal-setting is a habit that needs to be developed. I can hear many people out there going "oh no, here we go with all that goal-setting nonsense again... It never works for me! I just don't have the time to sit down and write down all my goals. I've never achieved any of my goals anyway."

I have three questions to that statement...

  1. If you have written down those goals, have you ever written down a plan of action to achieve that goal and actually followed up on it?
  2. If you did create that plan of action, did you actually take action.
  3. If you did take action, did you refer back to your plan of action to monitor your results and adjusted your actions to remain realistic and achieve the desired outcome.

What Is The Purpose of Goal-Setting?

Goal-setting is like plotting a map to get to a desired destination. It's not just about writing down some dreams.

What a goal will do for you is:

  • Determine where you are now.
  • Determine where you want to be (what you want to achieve).
  • How to get there (determine the route / plan of action).

You will never start a journey if you don't how to get there. Why would you expect to achieve success without having any goals?

We Don't Have Any Control Over The Future, But We Can Control Our Actions Today.

We don't have any control over any future events or what will happen in the future, but we do have control over our immediate actions and what we do today.

We can certainly say where we would like to be in one year from now or what we would like to have three years from now.

Then we need to realize that whatever we do (or don't do) today, will have an impact on the quality of our lives tomorrow.

Also remember, goals aren't set in stone. It's your goal. As you make progress, you can change your plan of action, or even the entire goal...or even decide it's after all not worth pursuing...but at least you'll know.

Eat The Elephant One Bite At a Time.

It is good to have long term goals, but in order to achieve those long term goals, we need to break those goals into smaller chunks. These smaller goals become more realistic to achieve in the short term and keep us more motivated.

I have a goal which I would like to achieve within the next three months, using the Start Earning Today program. I shared this goal in this post last week.

In order for me to achieve this goal I have broken it up into several weekly, and even daily goals.

My Goals For This Week:

Daily Goals:

  • Visit FreeBitco.in at least 10 times per day every weekday and whenever I have time over weekends.
  • View ads on my Brave browser whenever I get notifications
  • Use PRESEARCH daily for any online searches.
  • Follow at least 1 new person every day. I have set this goal for only "one per day" for now, seeing that I am still new on Hive and thus new to the community. I do not want to end up following 200 people while I only have 2 followers (as an example) myself. To me, that looks out of balance and leaves the impression of spamming people. I can do more on other (social media) platforms but I am more focused on building here at Hive at the moment and would like to maintain a good balance.
  • Like/Up-vote at least one good post per day on Hive
  • Create daily content on HIVE
    • Monday: Goal-Setting post.
    • Tuesday: Post about marketing/generating online income
    • Wednesday: Info-graphic
    • Thursday: *Re-blog content that can add value (subject to change based upon what I learn from my weekly goal).
    • Friday: Review Weekly Progress / What's happening behind the scenes.

All the above-mentioned programs are part of the Start Earning Today program.

Weekly Goal:

  • Increase my knowledge about Hive - especially on the following topics:
    • Hive Power.
    • *Re-blogging
    • Resource Credits
    • Voting / Up-voting / Voting Mana
    • Vote Value

Note: It is important that every short term goal needs to bring you closer to achieving a longer term goal.

Enjoy your goal-setting experience and have fun with it!
