🗞 Bitcoin, Equities Markets Rally on Signs of Hope

The new – and now often-cited – connection between bitcoin (BTC) and global equities doesn’t just mean they fall together.

Sometimes, it means they rally on potentially good news. And that seems to be the case on Monday, as positive data on the war on the coronavirus offer hope to the markets that better days may come soon.

The price of bitcoin is at $7,145 as of 13:45 UTC (8:45 a.m. Eastern time), a 5 percent gain from the previous 24 hours. The move began during Asian equity market trading hours as Japan’s Nikkei index moved up 4.2 percent. Futures contracts on the Dow Jones Industrial Average also had some sunshine around then, indicating a more than 700-point gain when New York traders heard their opening bell.

🗞 Steem Soft Forks to Freeze 17.6M Tokens Held by Former Witnesses

Tensions between Steem (STEEM) and the Hive (HIVE) community continue to escalate, with Steem executing a soft fork to freeze up to 20 accounts owned by the network’s former witnesses.

The frozen accounts hold 17.6 million STEEM, worth approximately $3.2 million and equating to nearly 5% of Steem’s total supply.

On April 4, the soft fork was proposed in a Steemit post authored by the new account "softfork2288."

In response to the purported “uncertain threat that the leaders and main influencers of [Hive] represented to the Steem Blockchain,” the fork sanctioned roughly “no more than 20 accounts “ that meet three criteria:

“Accounts that ran the version 0.23 during the Hardfork on Steem and were still in the Top 20 rank, shortly before the Hardfork. Accounts that proxied or directly voted to more than 10 witnesses running the version 0.23 on the Steem Blockchain during the hardfork with high influence. Accounts directly associated with operating these accounts.”

🗞 Major Crypto Firms Including Binance, Civic, Tron Targeted in Flood of Lawsuits

A flood of class-action lawsuits were filed in New York Friday, taking aim at a number of major cryptocurrency projects.

First reported by Offshore Alert, at least 10 complaints were filed in the Southern District of New York on April 3, alleging the firms had sold crypto tokens to U.S. investors that were in fact unregistered securities.

Among those targeted in the suits are cryptocurrency exchanges Binance (see complaint) and BitMEX operator HDR Global Trading, as well as notable blockchain projects like Tron (see complaint), Civic, Block.One, Kyber Network and Status. Bibox, Quantstamp and Kucoin are also named in individual complaints.

🗞 The New Land of Crypto Fundraising Is in Asia and Europe, Says PwC

Most of the fundraising in the cryptocurrency space shifted from the Americas to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), and the Asia Pacific regions (APAC), according to a recent report by Big Four auditing firm PwC.

According to PwC's 2nd Global Crypto M&A and Fundraising Report, during 2019, fundraising efforts in the crypto space obtained 18% less funding, while funds in mergers and acquisitions (M&As) in the space decreased by 40%.

As funding decreased overall, APAC and EMEA's share of the pie got larger. While APAC and EMEA saw 44% of combined fundraising and M&A deal value in 2018, that percentage grew to 51% in 2019.

🗞 It's Happening: S Korean Central Bank Unveils Plans to Pilot a CBDC

The South Korean central bank, the Bank of Korea (BOK) is “one step closer” to launching a pilot for a central bank digital currency (CBDC) and could start piloting a token as early as December this year – in line with central banks in other regions, which are also thought to be on the verge of issuing digital fiats.

Per the South Korean central bank’s own documentation, as well as reports from media outlets Bizwatch and EBN, the BOK appears to be on the verge of completing a remarkable u-turn on CBDC policy, and says that “internal and external conditions" have forced its hand – with and admits that the devastating economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic have led it to fast-track its CBDC progress.

As reported today, the “central bank of central banks” and multiple analysts think that the fear of the coronavirus transmission via cash and banking cards may shorten the road to CBDCs.

On the STEEM, it is very quiet now. It looks like the market doesn't want go lower for that correction after the nice UP we experienced 2 days ago. The market is now in waiting mode and want see in which direction the BTC want to go. Let's hope both will do a very nice UP.
