Una convención poco convencional || An unconventional convention
Mi papá, Humberto Orsini, fue uno de los creadores fundamentales del teatro venezolano en el siglo XX. Sus obras, como dramaturgo, han tenido presencia en los teatros nacionales, desde los años sesenta y aún hoy siguen vigentes y llenas de vida.
Actualmente, desde el 21 de marzo, hasta el 31, se está llevando a cabo en Caracas, el Festival de Teatro Progresista (Link). Uno de los grupos participantes, es el Teatro Estable de Maracay, que viene del Estado Aragua y que desde hace muchos años ha venido representando el repertorio de mi papá, quien llegó a presenciar sus montajes e hizo lazos afectivos con la agrupación.
My father, Humberto Orsini, was one of the fundamental creators of Venezuelan theater in the twentieth century. His plays, as a playwright, have been present in the national theaters since the sixties and are still alive and full of life.
Currently, from March 21 to 31, the Festival de Teatro Progresista (Progressive Theater Festival) (Link) is being held in Caracas. One of the participating groups is the Teatro Estable de Maracay, which comes from Aragua State and for many years has been representing the repertoire of my father, who came to witness their productions and made emotional ties with the group.
A pesar de la partida física de mi padre (este año se cumplen 7 años de ese triste momento), su obra sigue siendo actual y por eso este grupo decidió participar en el festival con la pieza "La Convención", una de sus obras escritas en la convulsionada década de los 60 y que, combinando elementos del sainete y del teatro del absurdo (al mejor estilo de Ionesco), trata el tema de las ansias del poder, especialmente el poder político.
Para rendir homenaje a mi padre, el grupo nos hizo la invitación a mí, con mi esposa y a mi hermana, para que los acompañáramos en la primera función, que se realizó hoy en el Teatro Alameda, en San Agustín del Sur, en Caracas.
Allí estuvimos y disfrutamos de un espectáculo maravilloso, muy bien hecho y muy divertido.
In spite of my father's physical departure (this year marks the 7th anniversary of that sad moment), his work is still relevant today and that is why this group decided to participate in the festival with the play "La Convención" (The Convention), one of his plays written in the convulsive decade of the 60's and which, combining elements of sainete and theater of the absurd (in the best Ionesco style), deals with the theme of the lust for power, especially political power.
To pay homage to my father, the group invited me, my wife and my sister to join them in the first performance, which took place today at the Teatro Alameda, in San Agustín del Sur, Caracas.
We were there and enjoyed a wonderful show, very well done and very funny.
Nuestro agradecimiento a Raquel Romero, como directora del Teatro Estable de Maracay, por ese gran homenaje a mi papá (una vez más), a los creadores del festival, por abrir estas magníficas ventanas al arte, y a todos los asistentes al evento.
A las personas que se encuentren en Caracas y quieran disfrutar este montaje, hoy miércoles, a las 4:00 pm, se estarán presentando de nuevo, en el Teatro Alameda. ¡Vayan que se divertirán!

To the people who are in Caracas and want to enjoy this show, today Wednesday, at 4:00 pm, they will be performing again, at the Teatro Alameda. Go, you will have fun!
