Clean and Green; It's a Win-Win.

avatar

Psychology says that cleaning is very good for the body as it reduces anxiety and burns calories, well, cleaning is something I do everyday. First, it started as an obligation and soon enough it became one of my hobbies. I'm one who loves to clean places and more often than not, I clean when I feel bored or stressed-out(which is almost every time). "Leave a place cleaner than you met it" is one thing my mom says repeatedly whenever she's given the chance to and this sentence is partly responsible for my sustained cleaning habits.

Sometime ago, I decided that I won't clean my room for a week just for the fun of it; I wanted to know what it would feel like to stay in an untidy environment for a prolonged period of time. I'm not one to litter a lot and so my plan looked really feasible but sounded very crazy.

The following week approached and I started implementing my plan. This was the week I had lots of female friends visiting me. Most of them were surprised at how my room looked while the others didn't really bother.

Three days passed and things seemed to be going fine till I took ill on the night of the third day. Whenever we get feverish with a pounding headache and a rise in temperature, we automatically conclude that it's malaria. I took malaria tablets and they weren't working; that was strange.

I didn't think that it was the state of my room that would cause such sickness. I said to myself, "four days down, three to go". I had survived four days without cleaning my room. How did this make me feel? Terrible. Did I still keep up with the plan? Yes, I did.

Source

After three days, my health didn't get better but it was time to tidy up my room. In my weak and very fragile state, I set out to clean my room. After tidying up the room, I freshened up and took a nap. This may sound a little odd but after my nap, the one-week-long headache had vanished into thin air.

I didn't pay heed to it, I just shrugged it off. By the next day, the rest of the symptoms were gone too. I asked myself , "Was it now that the malaria drugs were taking effect?" No, I doubt. It was the dirty environment that instantly swept me into a state of illness and once I cleaned up, I felt better.

I don't know if there's a name for this type of sickness–the one that comes only when you're in a dirty environment and once the environment is tidied up, it goes away.

One other reason why the sickness easily got to me was because I spent most of my hours in my room; inhaling everything. One can only imagine. From that day, I officially made up my mind not to repeat the same mistake. After all, they say "Live life cleaner. Make earth greener".

With love, wongi ✨

Yeah, it happens. Your body is used to living in a clean environment and breathing clean air.
So technically, your body will react when there's a change and the short illness was just your body telling you to clean up.

Exactly lovely. This is the conclusion I finally reached because there wasn't any other logical explanation.

Thank you for coming around ✨

Ataxophobia.. the name alone sounds prestigious 😅😅.

On a lighter note, I may actually have ataxophobia. Too bad, I thought I'd never have any phobias.

It is a prestigious name.
After researching it, I think quite a few people have it!

Yes, I came to that conclusion after doing a little research on it.

For me, the feeling would be irritating when I find myself in an environment that is not clean enough. I would not be able to even drink water from such a place. So, it's normal yo feel that way when you are a naturally neat fellow.

Very much so. I got the first hand result of my actions and that's what matters the most.

That one of the point why I didn't give untidyness a room in my life. I will lose those who are special to me

Many people would have a different view about you when they see that your personal space is unkempt but if they are indeed special to you, then they would know how hygienic you are.

Thanks for stopping by dear ✨

People's cleaning schedules differ. It's adviceable to clean up the rest of the house at least two times a week because like you said, you come back only at night and you still sleep in the scattered place; it's not safe health-wise.

Working can be very stressful and I can understand how tired you may be once you return from work but be that as it may, the germs in the dirty room wouldn't understand that you have work;), they would just attack.

I do appreciate your honesty ❣️

Cleanliness doesn't play any direct role in our life but it plays a very important role indirectly in everyone's life. For a healthy lifestyle, we need to remain neat and clean. Besides, we may become sick living in a dirty environment.

Exactly. I proved the fact that I would become sick living in a dirty environment, to myself. Has such a thing happened to you before..?

Has such a thing happened to you before..?

Yes, Once my mother was is hospital approximately for 15 days and within that time I was able the understand why my mother used to say that to keep the house clean all the time and it was a good lesson for me.

Okay, so in those 15 days, you had to clean the house by yourself. A nice way to learn lessons ✨

I find your symptoms believable because I suffer from that very sickness. Thanks to @tengolotodo, I've now figured out the term of that sickness.
I do believe one's environment has a big effect on one's mood. However, my case is mild now, because I've had to learn to compromise with living with my husband who has an excellent ability of being elusive to any effects of mess:)

I don't know why but in our lives, we come across people who actually feel glad when they litter a place or should I say, they feel indifferent. I know a few of them and like you said, we just have to adjust.

I was in the same boat with you; I didn't actually know what it was called either. Thanks to uncle T.

Yeah, that's true actually.

I think my list of phobias gets longer each day.🤣
I also suffer from trypophobia, but I have a severe phobia for snakes. I don't know what the term of that one is, because I do not dare to look it up for fear I see a snake.

I just looked Trypophobia up and it's a very interesting one too. Dislike of irregular patterns or clusters.

A lot of people fear snakes , I used to too, till I had an unexpected clash with it. It was terrifying but I think I immediately over came the fear that day.

I had several clashes with snakes too. One came into my flat when I was living in the Philippines. I admit that I'm slightly better, but I still freak out when I see snakes on TV, in a book, or on the computer screen. It doesn't matter the size or type of snake.

It is said that cleanliness is synonymous with health.
I think that actually what made you sick was the lack of cleanliness, it is something that has been proven. I think after this you will have your place as a tea rate. Hehehe.

An entertaining read with a valuable lesson. Thanks for sharing.
Good day.
