STV - How One Blond Can Bring Back So Many Memories???

Every Day A Different Story (24).jpg

There are so many things we don´t know, so many more than we do.

Imagine my surprise to find my go-to (Old-School)Techno Guru writing about Rock classics???

I didn´t see that coming, I mean I have been strolling through Hives musical posts to find a nice one for my STV for almost I year I guess. I enjoyed many #TechnoFriday´s those brought back memories, but the post I found this week topped that easily, and presented me with a tidal wave of flashbacks:

RockClassics Edition #51 - Doro / Warlock

Yes Sir Doro Pech in the virtual flesh, and largely written in her native language, which made it a refreshing experience to read.

It seems looking at the fact that this was #51 @uwelang has been doing this series for quite some time, so why did I not notice?

I have a clue

Maybe, just maybe I did not see them before because the last one was in January 2023!

I mean even if had seen them I would have forgotten all about it.
Oops, another lie just there. I would not have forgotten at all because it was about Wendy James, best known for being the lead singer in "Transvision Vamp."

She was my schoolboy crush and remained on my radar forever after (I love her album with the songs Elvis Costello wrote for her "Now ain´t the time for Tears").

So we had Wendy in January, Doro in August, I think I see a pattern. Gentlemen prefer Blonds, I guess we will see Blondie featured in #52.

Damn That Is A Long Intro

So glad this challenge has no intro Limitations because that were 270 words just to get started talking about what memories Doro Triggered.

Let me start with the song, because it´s the song that made me
reminiscence.

That song was introduced by my ex-wife, so as I said in the title Nothing Is Forever. Oh yeah, for those of you who lack the skills to use Google Translate Fur Immer = ForEver.

The song Yes, but I knew Doro Pesch from way back, she was on a poster in my room and believe it or not hanging awfully close to another poster....the Wendy James one!

This one:

I know too many she is all about not wanting your money, but too me she was so much more....she was a landslide of puppy love.

And 30 years later I bought another poster of Wendy....
I would never do that with Madonna btw...

This One:

Well mine is signed and I did not have to blur the nipple area, but you get the points.

Lots of memories

Lots of childhood memories indeed, those supposedly happy & unencumbered years. They feel like another lifetime and I guess they should as part of life´s great design.

Puberty messed it all up, or maybe it was just me. But back to Doro as nothing is ForEver.

Fur Immer

In the club where I ended up being the resident DJ I started out at bottom. I started being one of the 4 rotating DJ´s for the Wednesday 80s´ night. Yes imagine that, a rock, metal, alternative (dance) club playing Boy Goerge & Wendy James on a Wednesday.

80s to me meant the early 90s were still okay, you need to bend the rules a bit to stand out. And as a tribute to the movie that helped getting my mind set on being a DJ I started that first Wednesday with this song:

Yes that was from the Christian Slater Movie Pump Up The Volume

For the next five years, I made every one of the staff suffer through that song on those Wednesdays I took the stage.

I stepped up, and got to be the Thursday night resident DJ. Right after some overpaid outdated schmuck had run that night into the ground so deep he must have been drilling for oil.

What do you do when you get a dead night, you do it differently. You bent the rules again and play it a bit dirty.

Yes that dirty, I played Christina in an Alternative Rock, Dance & Metal club. I even played this mashup:

I created a toxic sentiment ....the good kind of Toxic and people thanked me for it. I brought in girls that danced dirty on Christina, thank kicked it up a notch by being a nerd:

And then everything goes in a club like mine:

I would just light them up:

Do you see how easily Christina and Britney fit in an alternative setting? Of course, this was the poppy corner of the night, but it worked.

Even though with this kind of change management it took me a year to take the floor from 10 to 150 peeps a night in one year.

That paved the way to start playing the Friday. I was actually able to get more sales on a Thursday than they did on a Friday several weeks in a row.

Friday was losing, not dead yet but losing to Thursday, which meant it was F´ed up. So I switched with the Friday resident, who btw was my role model if it came to alternative DJs.

That was quite an honor and I honored his Friday by doing it a little less poppy than I did before on Thursday, but much more hit-2-hit than the Friday used to be.

He wanted to educate his audience, I wanted to entertain mine. The difference is he played 3 new songs each hour I only played one.

Looking back

It took me over a year to get a chance on Thursday, it took me 18 months to build a Thursday that could compete with the Friday, and it only took me 6 months to get the Friday to compete with the Saturday.

The Saturday was suffocating. The guy playing the Saturday had been there too long and did not feel the floor anymore.

So after six months, I was asked to take the Saturday, but also to keep the Friday???

They wanted the same resident DJ to play the whole weekend???

I had been coming there for 7 years, this had not happened before. Not in my lifetime have they had one DJ playing Friday and Saturday.

After some negotiating I accepted, because I had a plan. I knew how to play both nights still giving the audience a different experience.

Friday would be new, modern, and poppy.
Saturday, classic, cool, poppy, and greatest hits.

I would show balls by playing Drop It Likd it´s Hot on both nights:

But I would only kiss a girl on a Friday night:

That way I could Pump it on a Saturday by mixing Misirlou & the BEPS:

And it worked

It worked better than expected, and it gave me a podium to promote myself and go beyond where any Extase (my club) DJ had ever gone.

But that is not how I want to end this story.

I had my theme song when I started on a Wednesday; and when I got to the top, owning that Saturday I thought that deserved another theme song.

And that Theme Song at the start of every Saturday Night was:

Well, the original version but you get my point.

Bottom Line

Wasn´t that a lovely personal story?

Still, some say nothing is ForEver.
And I tend to agree, was it not for that bloody thing called energy.

The Universe = Energy
The cosmos will change shape and size, but (our) Energy will never be lost and neither will my energy, my memories, and the memories of those who visited that night.

The greatest club night ever!

When I left the decks behind me and moved to Spain, I quite when I was ahead, and the club.... it died.

There was no replacement. After 20+ years of being this Alternative Rock, Metal, and Dance place they had nobody to pull them into the future.

They tried, never returned to the It Place.... and died two years after I was gone. Extase wasn´t ForEver it seems. But it´s spirit was.

The Reunion

Five years after the last real Extase Night I got a call; They were planning a Reunion Night. And where I expected they would want a lot of DJs to play at that party, they wanted only one???

That reunion was the biggest gig I ever played in that club.

That club fitted about 666 people inside, they were all there and another 700 outside!!!

Guess you already know how I started that night?
With Doro and Fur Immer because that night's energy will last forever!
