STV - "Don´t You Forget About Me"

Every Day A Different Story (12).jpg

I thought I was so smart, I had figured it out perfectly. I was gonna keep this Sunday light and happy by posting my dark follow-up of last Sunday´s STV this Thursday:

STV - Being Controlled Because They Fear The Reaper
But That Reaper Dude Seems To Have A Hold On Me

Not sure what it is, I actually feel pretty happy but somehow I am still in the mood for more death. Really I was not even looking for it.

I already made crazy plans triggered by @uwelang and his "Lunatic Asylum" and then this happened.

What six songs do you want played at your funeral?

@holoz0r really messed up my luny farm angle and made me go "Memento Mori" again but when someone mentions:

it would be delightful to be more "goth" in everyday life; and the practicalities of obtaining a hearse as a daily driver.

You got my ATTENTION.

Then using your own funeral to bestow Goth Style care on the ones that remain behind is an awesome idea. Although I do wonder how many people would actually take time to listen to Machine Head lyrics while the coffin is being lowered into a shallow grave, but let's not split dead hairs.

The Death of A DJ

My Point of View on my burial and the music that companies the event has been something I contemplated and changed a lot. Some of you might know I have a bit of an eclectic taste, so if I would play six songs how can I ever select just six songs?

More about the songs later, first the burial. It took me years to see that my burial is for everyone but me. Because I am the only one not there.

Yes, I will be there in the flesh, if I don´t die by getting eaten by a shark. But that is not me, that is just my mortal coil.

I myself will make sure I miss that depressing party because personally, I am quite looking forward to dying. Not saying I am in a hurry, but I am so freaking curious, and quite a bit disappointed by humans in general.

No worry I have no dark cloud above my head, there are a few reasons that make life worth living; Coffee, Red Meat, Narcotics basically all the good stuff you need a body to waste for.

And then of course there is love, but I believe that love never dies, only the body does.

I think it´s that belief that also makes me actually look forward to leaving this life behind. Or better, the flesh I was confined to behind.

Over time maturing little by little I stepped away from my original idea: "please, no party when I am dead, throw me from a helicopter in the Atlantic and let the fish enjoy my flesh because the worms are getting plenty of dead bodies."

But I grew more considerate, so sorry fish.

OMG I Have Become So Considerate

It seems like people feel the need to visit that bag of bones one more time, it helps them accept that I am gone, but probably it´s more about reminding themselves of their own mortality. I mean they can say goodbye to me in a million ways. Why do you need to physically visit a skin that has my features?

Now we come to the point where I am stuck. I want to be considerate at least once in my life but what should my burial look like then?

I Have No Clue How To Die

My brother knew he was dying, he discussed his wishes with his parents and had all the time to prepare himself and his burial. Say I would have that same unfortunate luxury, what would it look like?

Coffee and Cake is a typical Dutch tradition, but both are of horrible quality so I would prefer bottled drinks and a medium-quality caterer (my insurance is not enough to pay for high-quality food).

There will be no speeches, if you want to say print it out and pin it to the wall. This party is not about you, nor about me, this party is for those who made the effort to visit.

What would it sound like?

At this point in life, I think I would want a list of songs to be remembered by:
I remember a funeral of a suicide teen and she had selected her three songs and written those down before she left. Two of them will forever be linked to her in my mind.

My Mind Is Dangerous
Fast Car
Yes, I also remember the third one, it was by Bob Marley but I think that was just because she was in a phase. This is over twenty years ago.

No other funeral has had that effect on me.

WhyWhy

Because this 15-year-old girl chose songs that were really close and personal to her. Well, that, and the fact that this is not your standard funeral.

So I am not going for six, I would be happy if I could come up with three songs that are really really personal for me. Let's try it. And just as in my DJ days, I want to cater to a broad audience. That might make the picking of songs a bit easier.

My Last Set List

This song always makes me reminisce about a very beautiful period in my life. About dreams that never were to be.......

And then a song to say sorry to all those that I hurt by being an inconsiderate little idiot that meant well.

And to leave some with a smile I would love to end with this one:

Because death is something to be smiling about. Being released of all the pain that the flesh brings is such a huge relief. Not having to go to the bathroom anymore or pass another kidney stone is almost worth dying for.

Especially when you realized early enough in life that you should take the time to enjoy it. And not rush towards unreachable goals and die disappointed.

Life is meant to be a trip and not a burden. It should be a Rainbow to the stars

So after those three sad tunes, the decks get scratched and they get the party started:

That set would contain only the happiest stuff, the cheekiest songs, and those awful guilty pleasures.

Life´s a Party Till The End

My Funural Playlist

And maybe, just maybe I would end with this one;

Nah, please let me have the right to be forgotten because why remember me if you can think about......well let's call them happy things.

I'm so glad that I inspired you to write and share this. I believe I had a line in my wedding speech, which I made up as I went along "every car is a hearse, if you die in a car accident." - Darkly, provided that you don't get thrown from the wreckage, of course. :)

Thank you so much for writing this well considered post and allowing yourself to think deeply on these topics. Death is nowhere near a taboo subject, and I wish more people approached it objectively as you have done.

Gravestones, funerals, and all that stuff are for the living, not the dead. :)

You hit that nail on the head twice if you ask me:

"every car is a hearse, if you die in a car accident." - Darkly, provided that you don't get thrown from the wreckage, of course. :)

Loved that one and I could not agree more with:

Gravestones, funerals, and all that stuff are for the living, not the dead. :)

Death is no taboo in my book at all, it´s actually something I am looking forward to. Not in a hurry but GD curious.

Thanks for this great comment and inspiring my STV post!

Well, first of all thanks! Secondly, I hope I did not disturb your lazy Sunday too much as I was not aware. But the fact that it made you think about stuff is the most I can wish my #STV post to do so hope they were at least semi-good thoughts and wish that things will get better.
