Just doing it for me for once. Of course, I always put my heart and soul into the selection, but I always have you in mind. Not this week, this week is special, this week is inspired. It´s inspired without me even being aware...again

There is a new show on the Dutch TV, It´s about not-so-random people playing the piano at train stations while a random audience is able to enjoy the notes. And yes, they are being watched by experts and more blah blah, but I was captured by The Piano.
Then came Friday and I totally forgot about it, I was tripping through YT and found my personal favorite, yes Ren Again. But Ren in a way I had not seen him before.

I was like let's make that the start of our trip tonight and see where it goes. And it went a little darker, my French sucks, and I did not translate it, but wouldn´t The Glammer of Sillence be a lovely title?

Sometimes you forget. Sometimes, nah frequently I forget. And I did. How could I? How could I forget this song? I must have played it a thousand times, but for years I did not think of it, and there it was.
In a, I must say, awesome version. Bloody well done Noah!
Noah Gundersen - Round Here (Counting Crows Cover)
More than just a little misunderstood, I guess that goes for many of us. Do we not all look for understanding and that special touch? Just imagine we could all be touched, and played with as Fur Elise?
This is such a smart hook and so well-integrated that I had to listen to it over and over again.

Now this next one might be a bit off-theme, but I love the mix of English and Spanish. The Latin vibe mixed, with the electro vibe.
Joalin - La Chica-cá
And it´s a lovely segway to this next dollhouse song, I love that melody. It´s been used a lot but it keeps that hunting feel and well you know I always love it a little dark so we can leave the lights off.
Sarah Reeves - Get Back Your Fight
Heavn is a band I played before, and in general, I think they are too clean, too polished, but they are definitely not typical Dutch and they have those amazing arrangements, and they won me over by adding Néomi.
HAEVN & néomí - We Are (Live in Tivoli)
Talking about amazing arrangements, is this too much or just spot on? I like a bit bombastic and a bit melancholic, so I was lost, and getting more lost every time I hear this song.
Sivert Høyem - Sleepwalking Man
You must have picked up on the Piano theme tonight Dear Reader, but it was not till I reached this last song that I connected the dots. I thought it was solely Ren driving me on this journey filled with black and white keys. Till I heard Nicks's Piano in that big empty palace, and I remembered how that Piano Show had caught my ear.
And how many years ago, the first Midnight Gems Session I ever wrote was inspired by a Piano. Guess you don´t need to ask, but yes my favorite instrument was featured a lot tonight.

My Midnight Gems will try to uncover & recover those beautiful songs that nobody ever noticed or might have been forgotten.
Who the fluff am I?
Being a former DJ playing about everything and having an uncompleted study of radio journalism. I have been wanting to do this for years...Thought about it many nights and guess now it´s time to finally take it to the streets.
