Midnight Gems - Your Free Mix-Tape Show - E 35 "What´s The Definition of Scary?"

Every Day A Different Story (1).jpg

For those of you who are new to my MidNight Gems series. Welcome to this nightly trip on which we will uncover & recover some amazing songs & covers.

Last week I served you some Halloween leftovers as I was a very active baby discovering a lot of awesome songs. Now I also found some songs that had nothing to do with being scarry but were just awesome....and a little dark maybe. Well, that is the type of mood I am in tonight, so bottoms up, let's get another drink, hit those headphones, and let go.

Nice little intro, nice dirty toilet, nice title yup this is a lovely start of a less scary chapter

Taela - Good In Bed

Hmm still kinda disturbing but I do like Taela and while floating through YT space I came across this monster. Hard to label it but it is nice and poppy with a bite... Me Like This Monster!

PVRIS - Monster

Well I played this little Monster in my scary story but I did not want to abuse her twice in one story hence here we go again.... Not sure what to think of Carols Daughter, should I take her seriously or is this just an act.... ?

Whatever it is it sounds like Taylor Swift on heavy Meds, so it´s all good to my ears.

carols daughter - please put me in a medically induced coma

Talking about meds and my previous story I used a different cover of my favorite Placebo song there but I also found this one.... now please don't do this at home kids but it feels a little like Peter Steel from Type O is back and forgot to take his meds.

Placebo - Meds (Dani Love cover)

Is it a Monster?
Oh no we had the monster already....
Do I hear Dragons?
Or do I imagine that and am I just an asshole like Dennis Leary.

Whatever the answer, I think there are still some scary leftovers in this set. Now this not typical Vin, but I hope it will be at some point because this ain´t bad.

Vin Jay - A**HOLE

Okay Breitish Indy Synth Pop with that scent of hopelessness, and a female singer....you got me and so did these guys. It sounded like nothing special at first but somehow I kept going back.

Pale Waves - Television Romance

This next band just got my attention because of the name, in the Netherlands we had a ban called The Dolly Dots they were quite nice to look at when I was 10 years old, so I was curious about their rotting offspring and I wasn´t disappointed this song just makes me happy.

The Dollyrots - I Just Wanna Play Dead

Makes me happy, can´t say that about the next tune. but hey I don´t want this to be a happy happy joy joy show. So let's play some more weird stuff just because I know you like that just as much as I do.

Dana sounds as if I just met the Beasty Girls, if you ask me. I will deep dive into her a bit more to see if she has just one power song or if there is more to her.

Dana Dentata - pantychrist (Official Video)

Yes Dana was Disturbing but it can be worse, I guess I am still influenced by the horrific virus I picked up two weeks ago but come on this is a Gem, weird as Fluff but very intriguing. Or is it just me that has something with living dead girls????

Mimi Barks - DEADGIRL

Encore

Now the verdict is still pending for this last one as the jury is still out. The vid is fantastic, the sounds are sick, but I miss a little kick. Maybe it has to grow on me a bit more....but if it grows too long I might end up covered in mold.

Yeule - Pretty Bones

Riddle Me This

Guess What, My Riddle got solved by @bozz he saw the end of the world shining through those three songs.

What the fluff is Midnight Gems?

Somewhere lost in time, trying to escape out of the rabbit hole back into the rat race there is a vacuum..... that´s the place where midnight gems are found.

My Midnight Gems will try to uncover & recover those beautiful songs that nobody ever noticed or might have been forgotten.

Who the fluff am I?

Being a former DJ playing about everything and having an uncompleted study of radio journalism. I have been wanting to do this for years...Thought about it many nights and guess now it´s time to finally take it to the streets.

Hope you enjoyed this well-known wave of fantastic music and that you still feel like joining me on the next Midnight Gems Session coming soon.

Nice selection of songs. I think I have heard of Pale Waves before. I have been taking a deep dive into Drivin N Cryin this week. Old band, but they have some banger songs, I wish I had learned about them sooner.

Thanks the set contained some bands I knew but most were kinda new. And thanks again I know what I am gonna listen to tomorrow morning while writing (Drivin N Cryin) as the name rings a bell but....not more than a bell far away.

When I create these lists I want to discover new songs and indeed a title like that just gets me ....but if the song fails it will never make the play list but this one, good song, good title and weird vid is just awesome and makes the playlist

Cool, it's all very melodic. I don't follow any of these so a review comes in handy.

I think that indeed is what makes me tick, melodic. I love so many genres even black metal but I think what they all have in common is melodic..... I never figured that out I always say eclectic but you just opened my eyes so huge thanks!

I listen to a lot of stuff too, but lately, I've been looking more for an energy that radiates from the songs...

Got you completely it indeed not the genre but that x factor in a song but I do think that melodic is a key factor for me

Sweet, thank you. Sometimes I go a bitt overboard but normally I would compensate that in the next set. I just enjoy sharing good tunes you will not find that easy and add a little story as well.

Love the comment thx!
