Midnight Gems -Special - E 38 "It´s In My Blood, blame my German DNA"

Now this is what always happens, I started tripping and I tripped up. I had an awesome horror song, to kick off the show and I was already halfway there, and then....
Then a song comes by and messes it all up. All of a sudden one song causes a huge U-turn.

As I have admitted before I carry German DNA in my cells and even if I try to deny it .....it is unstoppable. Or maybe it´s because in the Germanic blood to create absurdly good songs I mean Beethoven and just cross the border an illegal immigrant called Motzart....

Anyway, I apologize to all who will not understand a word of tonight's trip, but the Deutsche Devil made me do it. And Triggered over 20 songs....

Sotiria - Ich lass dich Frei

Now the thing that I only saw after listening to that song twice was FKA Eisblume. Damn, that one word brought back memories. Memories of an SD card stuck in a phone lost many years ago. A phone lost and so many songs I totally forgot about in the years that followed.

Eisblume was one of those artists on that card that I probably haven´t listened to since I lost their tracks.

And they are so worth it...every song but especially this next one.

And that one song triggered a wave of German music I was listening to back then I think of them as Die Alte Deutsche Welle. And I am gonna take a trip down that memory lane.

I had two favorites back then....Eisblume and this little princess. I know she was probably a little molded into this artist but still... I loved that sound.

Now they hit my radar with [Wenn Es Passiert](Wir Sind Helden - Wenn Es Passiert) but I like this next song better....as it somehow has this Pixies vibe.

And in that same era, I found Juli and her Geile Zeit, now Geil is a very normal Geman word but being Dutch I have a bit more associations with this next song,

But the one that really made me fall in love with lyrics in this language was this guy, with this song. I remember it being on the radio when I was mowing the lawn and thinking oh meiner got.

So while tripping through those ancient memories I stumbled, fell flat on my face with my nose in:

Neue Deutsche Welle

And not the one you oldies are thinking of the original Neue Welle with Falco, Joachim Witt, and Einstürzende Neubauten.

But a much more modern group of artists.

Let´s start with 99 Probleme and this bitch ain´t one of them.

But not as lovely as this one....but maybe that is because I am a bit different as I have this soft spot for German Music.

Sorry, this trip will take a lot longer than what you are used to, but I just kept finding and encountering songs that kept me reminding... this one felt like one the songs by another great hero of mine...If Chris De Burgh could write in German he might have written this.

Now these guys I have played before because they did some awesome covers but I think this is an original and it´s indeed quite original.

Based on the number of views this was a Scheiße grosse hit in Germany, but I had never heard of it till it found me and I get the whywhy this got big.

But I think I prefer these guys, not just this song but quite a few I found, and yes it´s slightly commercial but hey nothing wrong with a bit of superficial every now and then.

What the fluff is Midnight Gems?

Somewhere lost in time, trying to escape out of the rabbit hole back into the rat race there is a vacuum..... that´s the place where midnight gems are found.

My Midnight Gems will try to uncover & recover those beautiful songs that nobody ever noticed or might have been forgotten.

Who the fluff am I?

Being a former DJ playing about everything and having an uncompleted study of radio journalism. I have been wanting to do this for years...Thought about it many nights and guess now it´s time to finally take it to the streets.
