Space is meaningless without light. A building speaks through the silence of perception orchestrated by light.

Steven Holl

Greetings architecture and design community, delighted to greet you and wish you a happy and blessed start of the week. On this occasion I want to share with you a building that is located in the southern part of the Bolivar square, in the capital city of Venezuela, Caracas.

It is worth mentioning that the towns of colonial origin were characterized by concentrating the powers in a strategic area. Generally, the plaza, the church and the government palace were concentrated in one area, which allowed the rulers to exercise greater control over the population.

Currently this area still preserves buildings from the colonial era although many have been restored and still retain their original style.

According to information provided by a local official, the Municipal Council has several offices in charge of managing documents such as birth certificates, tax collection from commercial establishments that operate in the municipality.

According to an insignia on a wall of this building it is written that it was decreed and built during the administration of General Cipriano Castro, constitutional president of the United States of Venezuela and restorer of Venezuela 1906.

This building is light yellow, with a colonial style, with white columns or chaguaramos, with wooden windows on the first floor in the form of semiarch, with a white design at the top, on level one also has wooden windows with glass bars with a balcony design with small chaguaramos and a wrought iron design at both ends of the balcony.

The walls are made of reinforced concrete, in the front of this building is the name of the same, the main entrance of the Council has a fairly high wooden door, also has wrought iron posts with garbage containers at the bottom and at the top flourecent lamps.

Also at the main entrance of the Council there are several wrought iron posts with the Venezuelan flag and also on level two. The second level has windows in the shape of a circle with glass bars and a triangular design. In level two it has lanterns to illuminate the place at night, in the ends it has a design in the form of circle, also in level two it has several plastic tubes that work as drainage. The roof is made of zinc sheets and some parts of tiles. Something that caught my attention was the internal part of the main entrance which has several columns with a peculiar design, in the upper part of the chaguaramos it also has a wrought iron design. In the center of the interior of the Council has a garden that is very well preserved. The internal floor is ceramic which is well polished and the entrance has a stone floor.

The City Council is a very popular place for the inhabitants of Caracas because it is located in the historic center of the city. It is also the site of the Caracas museum. My visit to the great capital was very exciting and fun where I was able to tour the historic center of the metropolis and see buildings with great stories of the colonial era.
God bless you and see you on the next tour.
