My Aegean Tour - Part 9: The Dead Sea Beach, Fethiye, Muğla [ENG-TUR]

From the beginning of the pandemic until 2023, I had taken domestic vacations towards end of the summer season due to the pandemic and economic crisis. I don't like the vacation format that goes between hotel, sea and foods anyway. I want to explore new places as much as possible. Last year, I realized the Aegean tour that I had planned long before. I could not travel all over the Aegean, but in this travel post series, I write about the places I could visit in detail in the Aegean. The ninth of those are The Dead Sea holiday resort and Butterfly Valley which are located in Fethiye district of Muğla province.

Pandeminin başlangıcından 2023 yılına kadar, pandemi ve ekonomik kriz nedeniyle yurtiçinde yaz sezonu sonlarına doğru tatile çıkıyordum. Zaten otel deniz ve yemek arasında geçip giden tatil şeklini sevmiyorum. Mümkün olduğunca yeni yerler keşfetmek istiyorum. Geçen yıl uzun zamandır yapmayı planladığım Ege turunu gerçekleştirdim. Ege’nin her yerini gezemedim ama bu gezi yazısı serisinde sizlere Ege’de detaylı gezebildiğim yerlerden bahsedeceğim. Bunlardan dokuzuncusu Muğla ilinin Fethiye ilçesinde bulunan Ölüdeniz tatil yeri ve Kelebekler Vadisi’dir.

Before leaving the hotel in Akyaka, we went swimming again in the morning and then had breakfast. By the way, we made a hotel reservation in Ölüdeniz to stay for two nights. We set off for Fethiye in the afternoon. We arrived in Fethiye center about 3 hours later, taking breaks at different points on the way. After parking the car, we walked around in Fethiye center and its coast. We sat on a bench near the coast and relaxed until sunset.

Akyaka’da otelden ayrılmadan önce sabah tekrar denize girdik, sonrasında kahvaltımızı yaptık. Bu arada, Ölüdeniz’de iki gece konaklamak için bir otel rezervasyonu yaptık. Öğleden sonra da Fethiye’ye doğru yola çıktık. Yolda farklı noktalarda molalar vererek yaklaşık 3 saat sonra Fethiye merkeze varmıştık. Arabayı park ettikten sonra Fethiye merkezde ve sahilde yürüdük. Günbatımına kadar sahilde oturup dinlendik.

After it got dark, we continued our way to Ölüdeniz. We arrived in Ölüdeniz half an hour later. Since the hotel we booked was very close to the main street of Ölüdeniz, we had no difficulty in finding the hotel. We decided to eat at one of the restaurants on the main street after checking into the hotel. We had visited many places until we came to Ölüdeniz, but we had never seen another place where the food prices were this high. In addition, although they are holiday destinations, both Fethiye and Ölüdeniz are not very developed; their roads, pavements, etc. were also very neglected. It was the first time for both of us to come to Fethiye and Ölüdeniz. Our first impressions were not very positive. Since we were very tired, we wanted to go to the hotel and rest.

Hava karardıktan sonra Ölüdeniz’e doğru yolumuza devam ettik. Yarım saat sonra Ölüdeniz’e varmıştık. Rezervasyon yaptığımız otel Ölüdeniz’in ana caddesine çok yakın olduğu için oteli bulmakta zorlanmadık. Otele yerleştikten sonra ana cadde üzerindeki restoranların birinde yemek yemeye karar verdik. Ölüdeniz’e gelene kadar birçok yer gezmiştik ama yemek fiyatlarının bu kadar yüksek olduğu başka bir yer görmemiştik. Ayrıca tatil yerleri olmasına karşın gerek Fethiye gerekse Ölüdeniz pek gelişmemiş; yolları kaldırımları v.s. de çok bakımsızdı. İkimizin de Fethiye ve Ölüdeniz’e ilk gelişiydi. İlk izlenimlerimiz pek olumlu değildi. Çok yorgun olduğumuz için otele geçip dinlenmek istedik.

The next day, after having breakfast at the hotel, we drove to Ölüdeniz beach. After wandering around the bazaar and the coast for a while, we parked the car close to the beach. We put on our swimsuits and walked towards the beach. There are businesses that rent sun beds and umbrellas on the beach, and since the beach is large, there are also places where you can put your own umbrella, chair and belongings. I can say that swimming in the Ölüdeniz sea is different from others because as long as you are on this beach, you can see many paragliders both floating in the sky and trying to land. Even, I can say that it is exciting to watch them. Some of them were flying so high that they looked like a bird. I think being this high is not something everyone would dare to do. We took lots of photos of them while we were at the beach.

Ertesi gün sabahtan, otelde kahvaltımızı yaptıktan sonra arabayla Ölüdeniz plajına gittik. Çarşıda ve plajda biraz gezindikten sonra arabayı plaja yakın bir yere park ettik. Deniz kıyafetlerimizi giyip plaja doğru yürüdük. Plajda şezlong, şemsiye kiralayan işletme olduğu gibi plaj büyük olduğundan kendi şemsiye, sandalye ve eşyalarınızı koyabileceğiniz yerler de mevcut. Ölüdeniz plajında denize girmek diğer plajlardan farklı diyebilirim çünkü bu plajda bulunduğunuz sürece gerek gökyüzünde süzülen gerekse iniş yapmaya çalışan birçok yamaç paraşütçüsü görebilirsiniz. Hatta, onları izlemek heyecan verici de diyebilirim. Kimisi o kadar çok yüksekten uçuyordu ki kuş gibi görünüyorlardu. Bu kadar yüksekte olmak sanırım herkesin cesaret edebileceği bir şey değil. Biz de plajda bulunduğumuz sürede bol bol onların fotoğraflarını çektik.
