My Aegean Tour - Part 7: Marmaris and İçmeler Holiday Resort, Muğla [ENG-TUR]

From the beginning of the pandemic until 2023, I had taken domestic vacations towards end of the summer season due to the pandemic and economic crisis. I don't like the vacation format that goes between hotel, sea and foods anyway. I want to explore new places as much as possible. Last year, I realized the Aegean tour that I had planned long before. I could not travel all over the Aegean, but in this travel post series, I write about the places I could visit in detail in the Aegean. The seventh of those is Marmaris district and its İçmeler holiday resort, which is located in Muğla province.

Pandeminin başlangıcından 2023 yılına kadar, pandemi ve ekonomik kriz nedeniyle yurtiçinde yaz sezonu sonlarına doğru tatile çıkıyordum. Zaten otel deniz ve yemek arasında geçip giden tatil şeklini sevmiyorum. Mümkün olduğunca yeni yerler keşfetmek istiyorum. Geçen yıl uzun zamandır yapmayı planladığım Ege turunu gerçekleştirdim. Ege’nin her yerini gezemedim ama bu gezi yazısı serisinde sizlere Ege’de detaylı gezebildiğim yerlerden bahsedeceğim. Bunlardan yedincisi Muğla ilinde bulunan Marmaris ilçesi ve Marmaris’in İçmeler tatil yeridir.

From Bodrum we set off towards south, Marmaris around 4 o'clock. About 2 hours later, we arrived at Gökova junction around sunset. Before turning to Marmaris, passing through the most beautiful junction of Turkiye makes one even more happy.

Bodrum’dan saat 4 gibi güneye, Marmaris’e doğru yola çıktık. Yaklaşık 2 saat sonra, günbatımına yakın Gökova kavşağına varmıştık. Marmaris’e dönmeden önce Türkiye’nin en güzel yol ayrımından geçmek insanı bir başka mutlu ediyor.

After turning to the Marmaris direction and driving for half an hour, we saw Marmaris. We stopped at a place where I can call the observation terrace, rested for a while and enjoyed this beautiful view.

Marmaris yönüne dönüp yarım saatlik yoldan sonra Marmaris görünmüştü. Seyir terası diyebileceğim bir yerde durarak biraz dinlendik ve bu güzel manzaranın tadını çıkardık.

Later, we continued towards Marmaris center. After a long time, this was my third visit to Marmaris. Our plan was to stay in Marmaris for one night. First, we found a place to eat. Then, we arranged a fine hotel to stay. After booking the hotel, we walked along the Marmaris promenade, put our chairs on the beach and sat down. Since we were tired, we sat on the beach for a while and then walked to the hotel.

Daha sonra Marmaris merkeze doğru devam ettik. Uzun bir aradan sonra bu Marmaris’e üçüncü gelişimdi. Planımızda Marmaris’te bir gece konaklamak vardı. Önce yemek yiyecek bir yel bulduk. Sonra kalacak uygun bir otel ayarladık. Oteli ayarladıktan sonra Marmaris kordonda yürüyüş yaptık, sandalyelerimizi kumsala koyup oturduk. Yorgun olduğumuz için sahilde bir süre oturduktan sonra otele doğru yürüdük.

The next day, we woke up early and had breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, we walked around the Marmaris center and the coast.

Ertesi gün sabah erken kalkıp otelde kahvaltımızı yaptık. Kahvaltıdan sonra Marmaris’in merkezinde ve sahilinde biraz dolaştık.

We set off for our next destination soon after, but on our route, we wanted to stop by the İçmeler resort, which is 10 km away from Marmaris. After parking the car, we walked towards the center of İçmeler. Neither of us had ever been to Icmeler before. The canal passing through the middle of the street we were going down and the cafes and restaurants around it formed an authentic environment.

Çok geç kalmadan bir sonraki destinasyonumuz için yola çıktık, fakat güzergahımız üstünde, Marmaris’e 10 km uzaklıkta olan, İçmeler tatil yerine uğramak istedik. Arabayı park ettikten sonra İçmeler’in merkezine doğru yürüdük. İkimiz de daha önce İçmeler’e hiç gelmemiştik. Aşağı doğru indiğimiz sokağında ortasından geçen kanal ve kanalın etrafındaki cafe ve restoranlar otantik bir ortam oluşturuyordu.

When we arrived at the beach, the first thing that caught our attention was the palm tree-lined walkway and the sandy beach. We really liked İçmeler. I would like to have a holiday here one day. Remained ashes from the burned trees were still visible on the mountain to the left. As far as we could see, İçmeler is a place that appeals to the upper class and especially British tourists. I can say that we felt like strangers there. We set off to go to our main destination, thinking that we were glad to have stopped in İçmeler.

Sahile vardığımızda göze çarpan ilk şey palmiye ağaçlı yürüyüş yolu ve kumsal oldu. İçmeler çok hoşumuza gitmişti. Bir gün burda tatil yapmak isterim. Sol taraftaki dağda yanan ağaçlardan geriye kalan küller hala görünebiliyordu. Gördüğümüz kadarıyla, İçmeler üst sınıfa ve özellikle İngiliz turiste hitap eden bir yer. Biz kendimizi orda yabancı hissettik diyebilirim. İçmeler’e iyi ki uğramışız düşüncesiyle asıl destinasyonumuza gitmek için yola çıktık.
