Fun with Dick and Jane - Dean Parisot | [2005]

Firstly, the importance of putting the year of the film in the title, as I do and many other authors in the community too, is due to the fact of remakes, as is the case with this post. I don't know in the United States, but the original homonymous work from 1977 is practically unknown in Brazil, 10 out of 10 don't know it and never heard of it, just people eager for cinema. Jim Carrey, on the other hand, due to its great success, makes everyone or at least a large part of young people and adults in the 2000s aware of this film.

After Dick Harper (Jim Carrey) loses his job at Globodyne in an Enron-esque collapse, he and his wife, Jane (Téa Leoni), turn to crime in order to handle the massive debt they now face. Two intelligent people, Dick and Jane actually get pretty good at robbing people and even enjoy it -- but they have second thoughts when they're reminded that crime can hurt innocent people. When the couple hears that Globodyne boss Jack McCallister (Alec Baldwin) actually swindled the company, they plot revenge.

Now let's go to the points that caught my attention in the movie

Jim Carrey

It's impossible to talk about Jim's movies, let alone Jim. Obviously every comedy movie he does, however much he gets into character, there's always a little bit of Jim in them, but that's what we want and what we like. The character's style reminds a little of the persona of the character from the movie The Liar, with the actor's gestural part being worked a lot, with faces and mouths that always make us laugh.

Of course, we shouldn't praise just one actor, when you have excellent actors to help as a ladder, such as Téa Leoni (Jane) and Alec Baldwin (Jack). The scenes where the couple dresses in several different ways to practice the robberies show the rapport between the actors and the creative freedom that the director offers. Jim himself commented that in the scene where he's dressed as Cher it's actually Téa who would be dressing, but he came up with the idea of ​​switching them to heighten the comic relief, and it actually worked, even more so in a scene with no lines.

Current Problems

The film was shot over 15 years ago, and its original work over 40 years ago, and the reviews remain current. Companies trying to defraud data, or fake accounts in order to embezzle money keep happening. Third parties being used as a scapegoat so CEOs can put embezzled money into phantom accounts remains common practice today. The pawns change, the board changes, but the game remains the same.

Obviously the film doesn't have critical/political content like the original of 77, but as Jim has mentioned in some interviews, between laughs the message reaches the viewer who instinctively becomes more aware of certain issues. I see this as a sequential plan that our brains adopt, and when we see a similar situation happening in front of us, we are already aware of having a vague memory (because of the movie) of someone who was harmed by these acts.

Best Quotes

Already at the beginning of the film, when he's riding the elevator and singing "I believe i can fly", dreaming of his new job, and now as he's riding the elevator to the top, he's a free bird that won't have to. work in your room on a middle floor. The punch of the joke comes when the door opens, where we wait for one situation and Jim hands us another. And of course if you want to know what happened when the elevator hit the floor, you'll have to watch the movie.

Because it's a comedy movie with Jim Carrey, I allow myself in the quotes to continue narrating body language scenes that I'll consider quotes.

When they go to make the last robbery, Jim brings a more serious character, spine erect and that the poetic license gave him the freedom to get to start the robbery. But the way this scene plays out, and the way Dick walks up to Jane as she leaves the bank, makes you really believe that this isn't Jim, it's Dick, seeing the calm in Dick's eyes that only concern brings.

They are plot after plot that doesn't let the viewer get tired, even though it's a kind of movie to watch in the afternoon with the family, not having anything so 'cult' to hold you in the movie.

Final considerations

Jim is Jim. That alone would be enough to watch the movie. I know I've repeated his name several times, but he is an actor that should not be forgotten, nor the contribution he brought to world cinema, more precisely in comedy (one day I will post about The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind).

A 6-grade movie in my opinion among comedy ones, that movie that will be hard for you to think about when you decide to choose one, but if you turn on the TV and it's on, you'll probably lose a few minutes to finish watching the scene. .

Primeiramente a importância de se colocar o ano do filme no título como eu faço e muitos outros autores da comunidade também, dá-se pelo fato de refilmagens, como é o caso dessa postagem. Não sei nos Estados Unidos, mas a obra homonima original de 1977 é praticamente desconhecida no Brasil, 10 entre 10 não conhecem e nunca ouviram falar, apenas pessoas ávidas por cinema. Já Jim Carrey devido ao seu grande sucesso faz com que todos ou pelo menos grande parte dos jovens e adultos dos anos 2000 conheçam esse filme.

Agora vamos aos pontos que chamaram minha atenção no filme

Jim Carrey

É impossível falar dos filmes do Jim, sem falar do Jim. Obviamente todos os filmes de comédia que ele faça, por mais que ele entre no personagem, sempre há um pouco de Jim neles, mas é isso que queremos e gostamos. O estilo do personagem lembra um pouco a persona do personagem do filme O Mentiroso, sendo trabalhado bastante a parte gestual do ator, com caras e bocas que sempre nos fazem rir.

Claro que não devemos enaltecer apenas um ator, quando se tem contracenas excelentes para ajudar como escada, sendo o caso de Téa Leoni (Jane) e Alec Baldwin (Jack). As cenas onde o casal se veste de várias formas diferentes para praticar os assaltos mostra o entrosamento entre os atores e a liberdade criativa que o diretor oferece. O próprio Jim comentou que na cena onde ele está vestido de Cher na verdade Téa quem se vestiria, mas ele propôs a ideia de trocarem para aumentar o alívio cômico, e de fato funcionou, ainda mais em uma cena sem falas.

Questões atuais

O filme foi gravado a mais de 15 anos, e sua obra original a mais de 40 anos, e as críticas continuam atuais. Empresas tentando fraudar dados, ou maquiar contas para poder desviar dinheiro continuam acontecendo. Terceiros sendo usados como bode expiatório para que CEO's possam colocar o dinheiro desviado em contas fantasmas continuam sendo prática comum hoje em dia. Mudam-se os peões, muda-se o tabuleiro, mas o jogo continua sendo o mesmo.

Obviamente o filme não tem teor crítico/político como o original de 77, porém como Jim já mencionou em algumas entrevistas, que entre uma risada e outra a mensagem chega ao telespectador que instintivamente fica mais atento a certas questões. Eu vejo isso como um plano sequencial que nossos cérebro adota, e quando vemos acontecendo a nossa frente uma situação parecida, já estamos atento por ter uma lembrança vaga (por causa do filme) de alguém que foi prejudicado por esses atos.

Melhores citações

Já no começo do filme, quando ele está subindo o elevador e cantando "I believe i can fly", sonhando com seu novo emprego, e que agora como ele está subindo o elevador até o topo, é uma ave livre que não terá mais que trabalhar em sua sala em um andar mediano. O punch da piada chega quando a porta se abre, onde esperamos uma situação e Jim nos entrega outra. E é claro que se você quiser saber o que aconteceu quando o elevador chegou no andar, terá que assistir o filme.

Por ser um filme de comédia com Jim Carrey, me permito nas citações continuar narrando cenas de linguagem corporal que considerarei como citações.

Quando vão fazer o último assalto, Jim traz um personagem mais sério, coluna ereta e que a licença poética deu a liberdade de ele conseguir começar o assalto. Mas o modo como essa cena se desenrola e a maneira que Dick anda até Jane ao sair do banco, faz você realmente acreditar que aquele não é o Jim e sim o Dick, visto a calma no olhar de Dick que somente a preocupação traz.

São plot atrás de plot que não deixa o telespectador cansar, mesmo sabendo que é uma espécie de filme para se assistir a tarde com a família, não tendo nada de tão 'cult' para te prender no filme.

Considerações Finais

Jim é Jim. Somente por isso já bastaria para assistir o filme. Eu sei que repeti o nome dele várias vezes, mas ele é um ator que não deve ser esquecido, nem tampouco a contribuição que ele trouxe ao cinema mundial, mais precisamente na comédia (um dia abordarei Show de Trumam e Brilho eterno de uma mente sem lembranças).

Filme nota 6 na minha opinião entre os de comédias, aquele filme que será difícil você pensar nele na hora de decidir escolher um, mas que se você ligar a TV e ele estiver passando, provável que você perca alguns minutos para terminar de ver a cena.
