Web3 in the Next Five (5) Years through Hive's Lens (Part 1)

avatar

I'm still reminiscing about the learnings during the 2nd Hive community Town Hall that was held a few days ago focusing on Onboarding, retention and community building. My learnings in that session have become the bedrock for my soon-to-be-revealed project that would foster onboarding and retention of individuals, businesses, and institutions to the Hive blockchain. Listening to the dapp and community founders speak passionately about what they are building on Hive, why they are building, and what they see as the future of the project gives me hope that Hive is for the long run and that forms a basis for me to reach out to many in a very persuasive manner to join the Hive blockchain.

The depth of the discussions points to the fact that dapps and communities on Hive are not just building for Hive, they are building for the entire web3 space and this would make Hive the most reliable gateway into the web3 world. I started building a project some years ago when I was not yet acquainted with the Hive blockchain and suffered some setbacks because its delivery could not offer the features that would compel many to support it. Thanks to Hive's scalability and sustainability features that would make that dream possible in the next couple of years.

DApp Founders' Vision for Hive in 5 years

The moderator of the show called on the founders to share their vision of Hive in the next five years based on what their dapp/community is building. Their responses were quite convincing an d a pointer to the fact that despite Hive's deep sophistication, there is still more that can be achieved. it is worthy of mention that the visions they shared was borne of their creativity, experience, and desire to help onboard and retain users on this blockchain.

Let's delve into the future of Hive ...

1. Actifit in 5 years

According to @mcfarhat, Actifit is seeking to:

  • Collaborate and integrate into the different components of Hive
  • Expand its vision from Move-to-earn to more possible web3 use cases.

Prioritizing collaboration is key to growing the Hive blockchain and web3 world at large. I have said many times that web3 expansion does not require competition, rather, it needs a depth of collaboration. The Hice community town hall is opening up a phase of improved collaboration in this space which would make Hive more sustainable. I am glad to see Actifit active on Threads and other initiatives of Hive

Expanding Actifit's vision from move-to-earn is already obtainable such that Actifit users can not create-to-earn (video, text, microblogs, etc), providing liquidity to earn passive crypto rewards alongside other fresh possibilities. This would help break the boring cycle of users just having to post their fitness activities. I remember buying a book authored by @Theycallmedan on Actifit some years back. That was a great feature and we look forward to seeing more of it in the future.

2. Dbuzz in 5 Years

Speaking for @Dbuzz, @chrisrice was very vocal about the dapp's drive on:

  • Business development by getting investors to join and buy $HIVE and $HBD (already rounding to $80k )
  • Partnering with schools with 3k students to educate them on the usage of Hive.
  • Creating Hive Education Hubs in schools in the Philipines.

This was an exciting vision for me, perhaps due to my bias in the education sector. Without a doubt, proper education will help push for the adoption of web3 better than anything. People are ignorant about web3 and they can't afford to risk their time and efforts over when they are unaware of how it operates. I had those reservations when I was first told about Hive until I did my research for several weeks and uncovered the hidden gems (information) that motivated my participation here.

Partnering with schools would help the students learn about blockchain and imbibe its ideals organically. on businesses, we need more revenue to flow into this blockchain. Thanks to the stablecoin feature (HBD).

3. PeakD in 5 years

@jarvie, co-founder of @peakd, shared another set of inspiring visions about Hive and web3 at large. They are:

  • More open-source projects built on Hive.
  • Making the tools of Hive more accessible for developers.
  • More wallet extensions
  • More decentralization.
  • Smart contracts

He sounded quite more technical and one can understand why PeakD seems to be growing unhindered. My key take is the push to get more developers to build on Hive since the tools are made available. @peak.open is used to achieve this. I am personally looking forward to seeing and using more wallet extensions. Thanks to VSC that is coming in with smart contracts.

I share the sentiments that Hive layer 2 communities should also create DAOs that allow developers to build apps that can utilize their tokens. I hope INLEO goes for this sooner so we can have 5 more dapps running on Hive utilizing the $LEO token. I can't wait to play games where $LEO is the central token.

It was a very educating session with those great minds speaking for Hive dapps. I didn't mean to be boring., I will share the second snippet of my takes on the next five years of Hive and web3 from the lens of Hive dapps.

What do you thinking of the above visions shared? The future of Hive is Beautiful!

I'll start by saying that it makes me really happy that people are starting to look a little further down the road... perhaps we can finally move beyond the "Wen Moon?" mindset that always is looking at the immediate future!

I like what I am seeing so far, but I'm also eager for the things I am not seeing, so far. YEARS ago I was punting out the idea of a decentralized peer-to-peer marketplace here, in the style of eBay/Amazon, with members trading goods and services with other members, entirely in Hive/HBD/Crypto. Sadly, it was usually overlooked as "too Web 2.0" but if we so dedicated to decentralization, why not facilitate it as a level that applies to everyone? Like it or not, people will always be buying/trading stuff, so why not peer-to-peer, rather than from some centralized conglomerate or Chinese sweatshop?

I'm really hoping for some community development in the 2nd layer, building more on how people actually use the Internet. Decentralization (as a stand-alone thing) is going to lose steam, and we need to focus on what you can DO with a decentralized structure. Whereas it's wonderful to see what is being built on/by LEO, where are the next 5 or 10 LEOs going to come from? I mean this in the context of overall marketing, as well: It's easier to recruit new blood to a niche/interest than to something general... it's how we use the Internet, to follow our interests.

The Sports Center on Hive
The Gardening Hub on Hive
Art and Creativity on Hive

Etc, and so on. Each with their own viable token and tokenomics... getting to a point where we are no longer saying "join Hive!" (although that's the net EFFECT) but instead saying "Join the Gardening Hub!"

Just thinking out loud...

=^..^=

Thanks, friend for the insights you have shared in this comment. it far broadens the scope of the original content. It's added to my learning. I am personally pressing on building, not a portfolio but an infrastructure that leverages the decentralized technology and adds more meaning to life in the internet.

Perhaps we can finally move beyond the "Wen Moon?" mindset that always is looking at the immediate future!

Yeah, this keeps us at the parasitic end of always wanting to draw value from here rather than giving value and building.

and we need to focus on what you can DO with a decentralized structure.

Certainly!

It's easier to recruit new blood to a niche/interest than to something general...

Yeah, that's what the communities wee supposed to do., Everyone forges their marketing around their unique product to bring the masses here.

getting to a point where we are no longer saying "join Hive!" (although that's the net EFFECT) but instead saying "Join the Gardening Hub!"

Valid! I see that time coming too. Some persons don't even need to know there exists Hive.
