Quote of the Day - May Sarton on using your talents

Transcript for accessibility purposes:
“A talent grows by being used, and withers if it is not used. Closing the gap between expectation and reality can be painful, but it has to be done sooner or later. The fact is that millions of young people would like to write, but what they dream of is the published book, often skipping over the months and years of very hard work necessary to achieve that end...”

May Sarton

I'm not familiar with the work of May Sarton but if I had to judge her based solely on this quote, I would say they are a very smart person.

Once again, this quote can be applied to many aspects of our lives and also to Hive. It's very common for newcomers to give up on their Hive journeys because they are undervalued, their content is unrewarded and the way upvotes are handed out is unfair.

While the latter may be true to some extent, what most of these people fail to realize is that growing on Hive is a long game. Sure, nowadays there are many ways to "purchase" guaranteed upvotes to your content which will boost your earnings and that number next to your name (which is called Reputation, but isn't really that). If those are your goals, go for it.

If, on the other hand, you want to build a strong community, a follow base and real reputation, then it's a much slower game.

It takes consistency and persistence. Loads of it. But, at least in my opinion, it's the most rewarding way to go in the long run.

Interesting! Most young people are like that, we dream and fantasize about the results instead of just putting in the work that will get us the result. Over the years, I've come to understand that there are really no shortcuts when it comes to achieving something great. Better to put more focus on the process and do the work, time will pass either way so might as well make good use of it.

That's very true, my friend.
It's a process indeed and it takes consistency. One step at a time
