"Who does the work? Who bears the consequences? Who reaps the rewards? When the incentives are aligned, it's the same person."

James Clear

After many days, I'm back with some quotes, and nothing better to resume this series than a quote by one of my favorite writers, James Clear.

This is something very interesting to think about. I never thought about it before reading these words but, looking back, it makes a lot of sense.

One of the reasons I decided to start my own business is because I realized I was doing a lot of the work, bearing a good share of the consequences but was not reaping the rewards in the same proportion.

That's the problem with working for someone else. You do a lot of the work, and bear consequences (although not all of them), only to see someone else reap the real results.

It's not easy to break that cycle. It took me over 10 years of working for others before I made that decision and, even now, while my business is still in an early stage, I still need to work for others to make ends meet.

But the thing is, now I'm fully aware of how things work so I became a lot better at aligning work, consequences and rewards.

I think once we are aware of the problem then working towards a solution will be much more easier.

Even tho you’re working for someone at the moment, exploring your business ideas will help increase the chance of you never working for someone in the future.

Unlike someone who only works for another, without navigating his path forward.

I wish you luck on your business endeavor it's never always easy at first. To push against inertia and get things up and running is the hardest part. But if we can persevere and stick to our long-term goals, anything is possible.

The realization often comes with a good shift in perspective. Aligning work, consequences and rewards is better done when one is working for themselves as there is much more scope on what one can do. The good thing is that it is a process we can get better at through refining it.

Well said. It took me many years to realize that but once I did, things started to move on a very different direction
