“Talent is rarely enough to assure victory and bad luck is rarely enough to guarantee defeat.

Do they influence the outcome? Of course. But your response will always sway the final tally."

James Clear

Another great quote by James Clear with which I completely agree. As the quote clearly states, talent and luck (bad luck in this case but it's the same with good luck) can influence the outcome of everything we do but there is much more than that.

When people see others accomplish outstanding things they often say things like "Wow, congratulations! You are really talented!" and, while they mean well, if you think about it, that's not really a compliment. At least not in all cases.

Imagine working hard for hours, days and even years to master something as close as possible to perfection to hear that you are talented! Again, of course, the people who say that mean well and their intention is not to ignore all the hard work involved in the situation but that's what ends up happening.

I see talent as a "headstart" or a catalyst. It definitely makes things easier and faster but it doesn't guarantee nor it is a requirement for success.
