Transcript for accessibility purposes:
"People often think that something "far off" will make them happy. That moving to a new place or getting a different job or meeting someone new will change how they feel. But happiness will always be withheld if you believe it is somewhere else. The secret is to find happiness in the people and places that are close to you. See the beauty in the things that are nearby."

James Clear

This quote really hits home to me. It's something that happens quite often. I sometimes find myself sad or frustrated about something and I always say to myself, "ah, when x thing happens, things will be much better".

On one hand, that kind of thinking is useful because it keeps me going and motivates me to fight for my goals but, at the same time, it turns my life into an eternal race. It feels like I'm always chasing that perfect scenario where everything will be perfect and I will finally be allowed to be happy but that never happens.

Sure, it is satisfying when I reach a goal but the feeling doesn't last long because there will always be something else. The next promotion, a bigger house, more of this, more of that.

Having goals is important and achieving them can be very fulfilling but we also need to be grateful for what we already have.
