Some suggestions for LeoFinance

I've been waiting to spend some time with @khaleelkazi to discuss some suggestions for LeoFinance.io. Seeing as he is so busy, I'm putting some of them together in a post.

Explain why Hive account

This is something I have been wanting to do on STEMGeeks.net. It's really simple, but I think it is important. Have a look at this gif that covers the start of the sign up process.

The problem is as a new user it is really confusing why someone is signing up for a Hive account when they are joining LeoFinance. In my opinion, I think a window that explains why you need a Hive account and some day in the future a link to where they can learn more. This could be one more dialog in the funnel or just a link "Why do I need a hive account?" where they can click and learn more.

LeoLock

I love Peaklock on Peakd for mobile. It was perfectly executed by the @peakd and allows you to easily login and save your posting key securely on a mobile device. The current implementation of non-keychain login with LeoFinance uses HiveSigner and requires your active key even if you only want to use your posting key.

A Peaklock like system would eliminate the need to do this, the current system forces you to grant posting authority when not using Keychain. Posting authority should only be required once if you want scheduled posts and that's pretty much it. I believe Peakd team might even help implement a similar system.

First Tag

The default behavior of Leofinace.io and most sites is to display the first tag. In the case of Leofinance.io this is always LeoFinance community if posted via LeoFinance.io (which most people do). Seeing as 99.9% of them are LeoFinance, this information becomes pointless.

I suggest using the 2nd tag as the category when the first is the community.

The only time it is different is when a post is promoted. Then it actually replaces it. Another suggestion in this same area is move promoted to the left and not delete this category tag. This category tag is very valuable if it is actually displaying things like Bitcoin, UniSwap, Ethereum, and other categories. Right now it is dead space between always being LeoFinance and Promoted overriding it.

Posted with LeoFinance

I personally think this is counter-productive for comments. While there is value on a main post, doing it for every comment starts to build a spammy backlink profile for SEO and just looks silly. It also makes the comment section look tacky.

Improve the coingecko listing

image.png

Right now wrapped Leo is displayed on CoinGecko, which is freaking amazing. But it only updates like once a day (last update 15 hours ago) and 90% of the stats are not displayed and nulled. It doesn't present a good first impression. I would suggest doing everything possible to get this to be updated and reliable as possible.

Get a listing on Ionomy

Ionomy is always looking for tokens to list. While they don't have a lot of volume, it can't hurt to get a listing there. I can put you in touch with someone that might be able to help.

Geyser the 1st of the month

I brought this up on Discord and it seemed to be received well, but I think moving the geyser snapshot to the first of the month would be ideal. I know it was mentioned that it would be transitioned slowly, to the first. I'm perfectly fine doing it immediately (when the code is ready) rather than a slow transition. It's only like two weeks and I think most would be fine having a shorter or longer month to do it in one go, but either way it would be nice to have a set date we all know.

Names in Dex

Most of us know of @jjb777's forked Hive-Engine.com site which displays the names of buyers and sellers. It would be awesome if LeoDex did this same thing without the need of a forked Hive-Engine.com clone to check who is buying and who is selling.

Delegate bot

When you sign up new users they have 0 HP. You can't really do much of anything with 0 HP drastically reducing the user experience of new users. I would recommend delegating 5-15 HP to new users for 30 days and removing it at 30 days.

I am the first one to admit the Steemit Inc delegation system sucked and was heavily abused. But there were serious flaws with it and it did not remove delegation quickly. I think 30 days is enough time for a user to start earning some Hive to have enough to transaction. RC Pools will solve the abuse problem and this system can easily be changed to move to RC pools when the time comes. RC pools are planned for HF25 which is only a few months away.

There is already a bot available to handle this for you that most likely works, if not should be easy to make work. You can find it here.

I could go on with more suggestions, but this is a start.

I think the relationship of Leo (and other dapps) with Hive should be made more obvious. With some you have to hunt around to find any reference to it. We should be wanting people to use more than one dapp. Not everyone is into financial stuff anyway or at least not just that.

I was just thinking (not totally seriously) that maybe we need to require people to comment to be able to vote as we see so much voting going on with little actual interaction. Some of the biggest earning posts have few comments. That can give a bad impression IMHO.

Your suggestion is in good direction, but a comment is not proof of reading. The bots voting will auto generate stupid comments.
To increase engagement authors need to vote good comments.

It was partly a joke, but I like to see more engagement and not just voting for curation rewards.

All good suggestions and many easy to implement.

The removal of the posted with leofinance in the comments makes a lot of sense. At this point I dont even notice it but, for new users/readers, it could be a step forward. They might be taken aback by it.

Also, I love the idea of explaining why to claim the Hive account. The sign up using Twitter is great, easy onboarding. Yet we still need to explain why users need to take their Hive account especially if the reason the user is going to use Leofinance/Hive/projectblank is in response to account closuer/censorship.

Hopefully some of these are done rapidly since they wont take a lot of time but will help things out a bit.

Good suggestions.

hey sir you said you were looking to attract college students here, well here is a teacher, that @agroed in his last post said to welcome him, and that he is creating a community for his class, I hope he is the gateway to hive like this As for your STEM community, if you haven't seen it, it would be nice to take a look.
By the way, fantastic advice, hopefully they help a lot so that the new ones are not disappointed with some technical things that we have around here, the ones I have invited I create the account and there the accounts are abandoned I think it has been due to lack of effort I do not know want to dedicate.
Greetings.

Names in Dex

Ehhh, I think this one should be avoided. While good on an alternate UI, most people who want to trade don't care about who they are trading with. Its just the values that matter. Being able to see more of the order book would be something I'd care about more than names.

Also @khaleelkazi If you guys do end up doing a delegator bot, I'd be more than happy to share the code behind giftgiver(any user meeting certain requirements can use this to get a free delegation) for you to setup auto delegations and undelegations.

i could be wrong, but i think they are delegating 10 hive after the registration.

Yes I think they are already doing that.

But then again, that is the best suggestion, one that is already in place. Cross it off the list. LOL

I checked and I didn't see any HP on the most recent accounts, I didn't look at many though.

I checked the most recent one and it was 0 HP but that’s all I checked. Maybe it just takes a bit.

Nice suggestions. Do you think the keychain app will remove the need for peaklock?

I would add one thing that is annoying to me.

Make the voting bar real time instead having to reload the entire page. It gives false information when you see 100% but you have 90% and it confused me few times.

I do too but Marky is right when you look at shorter comments. It does look a bit ridiculous. Look at this post and comes of the comments where there are a few one line comments in a row. You see the Leofinance beta listed a number of times.

Posts are obviously a lot longer so it does make it less "spammy".

Of course, it wouldnt be as much of an issue if everyone left comments of a few dozen words in length each. LOL

It also builds a spammy link profile when it comes to SEO. When each page has 20-50+ backlinks to itself, it also weakens the link juice a page can give.

Should be a choice by the user if they want to be a marketer

Peakd system is a great addition and something I've been saying for a bit. I still think it is overly bearing and chunky.

One log in only and perhaps a confirmation when powering down or sending LP for security.

Is all the other stuff important for an end user? It would be good to get some real world data and engagement.

I don't understand the avenue of abuse, I think the block chain is still heavily geared to benefit bigger players and restrictive for lower HP holders.

Again perhaps it is designed that way to push people along to purchasing Hive.

Either way, Leo Finance is doing everything right.

I really enjoy the second tag suggestion. I have struggled with figuring out which tags to use on my posts and hearing that the first tag is what is used to sort the posts makes me very supportive of using the second tag to promote separation of the posts. Great points made, hope that the dev team hears you!

Agreed. The quality of the coingecko listing should be a priority, in particular.

All these are great suggestions and I mostly love the Ionomy listing one.
Leofinance is now big and can easily be listed outside Hive and that will be a game-changer for all other tribes here.

I created a new account just to test it and they are still delegating that account 10 HP. That was a couple months ago.

All in all these are good (but more importantly simple) changes that improve the UX.

There were functionalities that one person can raise question with one price, if someone answered the question, he/she will get paid. Can such functionality be implemented?

great suggestions! I woud like to add that in the posting section it would be nice to have all images centered (like on peakd) automatically. Also for tags it would be nice if one could move them around (like on peakd) when choosing them.

I found the suggestions to be very accurate. I think it's great to delegate a little bit of HP to new users, and 30 days seems to me a prudent time. I'll keep an eye out for more recommendations or suggestions.

Great suggestions! Personally, I would like some sort of explanation page of the whole Hive ecosystem. For example, how do all these things fit together? There's LeoFinance, and STEMgeeks, and Sports, and Peakd, etc....what do they all mean and how do they all fit into HIVE as a whole? I mean, if the new #ProjectBlank comes out and the price of the token shoots up to $5.00, what does that do for the people who own Hive? Will they get any value from it other than potentially capturing more users? I'm not saying that wouldn't be extremely valuable, but, like I said, I'm just wondering how they all fit together and what impact they individually have on the ecosystem as a whole.

holger80 which you presented and how that will help with onboarding.
