What did you buy for Christmas? This is the question a friend asked me today after I was coming back from the market, seeing that I was coming back with just a poly bag, which was not filled up to anywhere. I could not give him an answer, and all I could say is that things are too costly. It was not my intention to go to the market without buying things in full, but there was nothing I could do because of the price of the thing.

I wish I could get a receipt for the foodstuff I bought, but it was not possible. When I prepared to get something to cook from the market, I estimated some money, which I believe will be enough for me to buy something, even if It's something little.

Then I headed out to the market to see what it looked like. On getting there, what I saw first made me scared. What did I see? I went to the store meat and animal skin are sold, and I demanded some amount for me to make payment for it. What the seller sold me almost made me cry because it was too small compared to what it had been before.

I was just silent for some time and dumbfounded to the extent that the seller was telling me to please buy from him, but I couldn't, and I was also considering myself at some point because I knew the amount of money with me.

I went to another store to buy food that I would eat, but when I got there, the story was not really the same, but there was no difference. My hope was that I would be able to get things at a cheaper rate, forgetting the fact that the economy is not stable yet. This is very disheartening, and I wondered what I was going to eat for Christmas.

After a long walk around the market, I had to buy something that I was going to manage and eat for the Christmas celebration. Even after that, I was still not able to get it all, and I just left the market like that. While I was coming back, I saw some things that I also needed, and then I went there to buy them.

But the question I keep asking myself is, "When are we going to get a revised economy?" Because the current economy is very draining and also because one doesn't get enough better resources to tackle it, we just have to manage whatever we have to make sure that we are living and sustaining ourselves.

When I finally got home, I forgot that I hadn't filled my gas cylinder, and I had to go through the stress of filling it again to get to the gas plant. I had to ask them first for the rate at which they charge for gas, and I was told a thousand naira. Judging from what I have seen in the market, I couldn't argue with filling it like that.

All together, I was hoping I would have a fun-filled day for Christmas, but it was the other way around, and I was going about it because of what the country's economy has become. I don't even know if I should have hope in this country or not, but I know all will be well.
