The Rising Financial Strain on Nigerian Students: A Plea for Educational Accessibility.

It's now becoming something every Nigerian student must pay attention to because it has now taken too much of what we have, and now it's making the student feel under pressure to do what some are not supposed to be doing as a student. Some weeks back. I talked about how the institution was keen on increasing the price of the school fee, which we trusted they would later rule out or reduce to the minimum.

The institution proposed a whopping amount of 42 thousand naira to be added to the actual price that we pay as tuition fees. Initially, the actual price we were paying then was 38 thousand naira, and now they are adding a huge amount of 42 thousand to it. Aside from that, the students will still be paying for whatever they need for any assessment.

This has set most of the students on the high side, and many are so confused about why this is so. This money might look so small to some people, but it is actually because our fingers are not equal. But to an average Nigerian person, he or she will find this money much to pay because they have not been paid for schooling, nor do they receive a salary, and they depend on their parents to pay for it. Talk more about those who strive to get money; they pay themselves.

This was why the student affair raised an alarm not to agree with this huge increase, and they went indoors with the school body. After a long discussion between the student body and the board of management in the school, they finalized their decision on adding a sum of 22 thousand naira to the one that was on the ground before. So now, it's the addition of 22 thousand naira and 38 thousand naira which is a total of 60 thousand.

This is just an estimate because there are still other charges aside from this money, and they will still add up and add more money to what we have. This is so sad considering the current economy and the state of things at the moment. The current standard of education won't allow you to work and study, and yet they still add crazy bills to what students pay. This is because of the fraudsters among the students, and they feel everyone has the ability to pay this money with ease.

That aside, we now move on to the payment for houses. The more the price of schooling increases, the more the price of housing also increases because the house owners also want to earn more money, and they believe for you to survive in a school area, you just have to do whatever it takes if you want to study and graduate safely. How would it feel when no one has invested so much into schooling and, along the way, dropped out because they could not afford to pay?

The financial aspect of schooling in Nigeria is now coming to an edge where going to school is now becoming a tug of war, and it's only the strongest that will be able to afford the prices that will be proposed, and now just a random citizen won't be able to afford education anymore because education is now seen as a means to swindle citizens and squeeze money from them and also their parents. I hope the financial sector will look into this and help struggling students like me get a better education, even when it's not easy to cope with.
