Challenges in Higher Institution: A Reflection on Financial Strain, Institutional Demands, and Student Resilience.

When I thought that was all about academic stress for this year, I got another update from my head of class that we are to wait for some document signing before we finally leave for Christmas celebrations. To hear this, I was very worried and bothered because I was hoping I would be at home with my parents as soon as the holiday started after my final exam for the semester.

What happened?
After finishing the 300 level in my school, and you get to the 4th year out of 5 years you will use to study animal science, you will use the fourth year to do a form of industrial training that would be done in the school premises for the whole 400 level, but this was not meant to stress you, but I will also stress someone because of the period we are in.

Plus, the sun that is outside and also working under the sun will add to the level of suffering one will go through. After we finished the exam, all students were expected to go home for the holidays, but we couldn't because it was a different thing this time. Our coordinator passed a message to us telling us that we should ensure we take this IT seriously because it will affect our grades, and he stated that we should not try working on it or mixing the IT with something else because we are students.

When we heard this, most people were very annoyed because some students work to pay most of their bills. Now, telling us not to work is like a form of punishment that the school is doing to us. The school itself is not doing anything to assist the students, but instead, they even increased the tuition fee with an addition of 40 thousand naira plus the initial amount we were paying before.

Now that IT is around the corner, the school wants us to pay some dues even before paying for school fees, which have been increased. I wonder how they want us to cope when we do not have anyone financing us. Now, we have to wait back in school to ensure we do the proper registration before going back home. The stress we have been going through since the registration started is even small compared to what we will still face when we finally resume IT next year.

I just have to prepare my mind for what is coming ahead of me, so I am not going to be surprised again even if the worst happens because I have been seeing more of the worst things already. Schooling is now even more expensive than I expected, and the institutions are now making it look like we just have to pay for everything, and they are not even helping at all in any way, even though they are federal schools. I am just happy I am graduating soon.
