Is The Prize Worth The Risk?

avatar

So earlier this week, I stumbled upon a gory video of victims from a fire accident which took place in Nigeria. Apparently, a fuel(gasoline) tanker fell and some by-standers thought it was a great idea to go scoop some gasoline so they can either use it or make some money off it by selling it. Unfortunately, the tanker exploded and there were so many casualties. So many people died (including those who didn't take part in the scoopings but were nearby and just watched) and those who survived were left with severe burns they will be spending crazy amount of money treating and their body permanently disfigured.

I felt so sad for the victims and pondered on the question "Is the prize worth the risk?". Pretty sure it was a good idea to most of the victims when they saw a fallen tanker pouring out fuel, especially since that could fetch some good money right now in Nigeria and since it happens alot of times and people get away with it. Quite alot of people in the video's comment section weren't moved or feel empathy for the victims because they felt they paid the price for their greed and they had no regard for their own lives themselves.

This isn't the first time I'd be hearing of incidents like this and I doubt if it would be the last time. I doubt it would be the last for no other reason but the fact that humans will always take risks no matter the price, even if what is at risk is their life. This is the instance with crimes. Criminals still exist and will keep existing even when they know the risk involved with their crimes could be their life, freedom or money.

I always feel bad about those incidents
Why can't those trailers be driving at night? They are very annoying and RIP to those who have lost their lives to this

I remember on such incidents happening here about an year ago.
What can be said, when the economic state is bad people tend to care less about the safety.
