As An Artist, What Keeps You Going?

Being an artist in some parts of the world could be one of the toughest life decisions some of us have made. Besides the stigma that comes with being an artist in developing countries, stability is something most artists struggle with; financial stability most expecially.

Web 3 however has given a great number of artists and creators the opportunity to spread their wings, have a much bigger audience and be much more successful from doing the things they love. However, we still have a long way to go as Web 3 itself, particularly the NFT space is still plagued with nepotism and favoritism. Hardwork and passion aren't taken into consideration but whose art will fetch me more money and fame. This has made so many people i know give up on creating art and even made some of us question why we were artists in the first place.

So what keeps you going as an artist? For me, I no longer look at the financial aspects of creating. I started creating art for the love of it and to express my deepest emotions and feelings. I didn't start creating art to sell to the highest bidders. I'm thankful I got to the stage where my works were recognised internationally but what has kept me going even when thing got tough is the mindset that my creations are manifestations of my skill, talent and hardwork. I also feel motivated by people who resonates with my works and recognises my effort.
It's really not about the money for an artist as a quick trip down history of artists would show financial success wasn't a thing for artists. But knowing that your name will forever be written in gold and your works will be in existences and showcased long after we're gone is enough reason to keeps going.

What keeps you going as an Artist?

Well, I'm not an artist but I think one of the things that keeps people going as an artist is passion. The fact that you love art is enough to help you with continuity

I've been an artist since I was 4 years old. At 28, I decided to enter the animation industry in 1998, here in my country, the Philippines.

So, I combined my passion for art with a need for a stable profession. That's how I can keep myself going. Bull or bear, it doesn't affect me.

Nowadays I am just freelancing non-stop, but preparing to get employed soon in a big studio job again. My goal is to work another 3 to 5 years before I retire and go full time in Web 3.0.

That's great, having a stable profession allows us focus on create for art. Freelancing sounds great, I'm currently considering it. Thanks for stopping by.

Without a doubt, Web 3.0 has been a great window of opportunity for me. Before, art was just a hobby for me, but here I learned the true commitment to what you love. It is difficult, as you well mention in some countries, the profession of artist but beyond these problems we are here for the passion and love for what we do, I have come to think that art is not about a commitment to life but to the death, since the greatest works in history achieve glory after the artist has left this world. For what I consider that living from art is living from love, and the love for what we do and express is priceless, I am going through a bad financial moment all the years, but despite the difficulties I do not stop sharing and do what I like. I thank Hive for the opportunity to help me improve my skills, I hope like any artist to be able to make a living from this, but beyond that, I hope to continue having the desire to express myself through art.

Hive and Web 3.0 as a whole have truly created an opportunity for artists and creators as never seen before. Truly glad we're experiencing and much more appreciative of the fact that artists have massive support from communities like never before. More grease to your elbow buddy.
