As I'm getting more involved in the world of cryptocurrencies, I'm noticing some strange and unusual things happening. At first when I joined cryptocurrency or HIVE blog I was just in a thought that there will be only positive side in this world. There will be no risk of scamming, hacking and other attacks but as I continue my journey I am seeing and facing difficult times as well. Dusting attack is my today topic which I heard about this few days ago. I go to research and find what kind of attack is this and how can it make us harm. I found something to understand but still confusing and you can people add to the knowledge.
What is dusting and how it is done? A tiny amount of crypto sent by scammer which even has no value is dusting. They sent this tiny amount to multiple wallet adresses to link dusted wallets. They do that to attract users towards themselves and one of the other reason to get the feedback from the users to whom these tiny amount is sent. They will manage to continue their chat in any mode and can do scam easily. Bad actors or scammers sent this tiny amount to more than 1000 wallet adresses in a hope to uncover real identites to which they reach to them. Their mission is not to steal your fund but instead they are used by miscreants to plan further exploit.
If you have proper know about your wallet and you track you wallet regularly then its possible to identify dust attacks. You must know about your wallet and the number of crypto you are holding. If I talk about HIVE I must check my wallet refularly that if there is no suspicious transaction and if you find the uncount number of like 0.000001 and something like that then you will be active there is some kind of dusting attack against me. You are bound to investigate any crypto flowing into your wallet and must have know how about your wallet. This is one of the following possibilities you can identify dust attacks.
This is one of the difficult question which I did research alot because I also received that small amount in my wallet which really confused me. I get to the result that there is possibility to stop dusting attacks while updating your wallet to HD wallet. Now this can be possible to exchanges but dont know about HIVE.BLOG. I dont know how can I update to HD wallet which gives a public key for any transaction and will keep you safe for dusting attacks to some instant. If any one has knowledge about that you must share will many people by writing brief post that everyone read to stay aware.
The other way to stop dusting attack is to install updated antivirus and VPN or install proxy networks which will stop these attackers to trace your account. There are some exchanges which allow you to convert these dust amounts to other crypto to keep you protected such as Binance exchange where you can convert any smaller amount to BNB. We also need such features in Hive platform to keep our account protected. We are increasing the number of hive users and more people are daily joining this platform. If some one know to protect our account against such attacks please let us know.
