Why I Am So Excited About Shorts Coming To Leo

People have different reasons to be optimistic about Leo. There are some who, surprisingly, are not even bullish on what is taking place.

Ah well, can't please everyone.

That said, there is one thing that really stands out to me.

If the front end can be configured right, Leo Short might be the biggest thing to hit this project yet.

It could be an order of magnitude bigger than Threads.

Yes you read that right.

Leo Shorts could have a much bigger impact than threads on the Leo ecosystem. This is how much of a game changer it could be.

So let us take a look at why this is something that I am so excited about.

The Power of Video

Video platforms are worth a fortune.

The Bug Kahuna is obviously YouTube. There is no telling how much money this platforms makes Google. Regardless, we know the traffic on there is enormous, coming in as one of the largest platforms there is. It is a Top 5 website in terms of traffic.

Then we have the relatively newer participant, Tik Tok. This is around longer than people think. It also introduced us to the concept of the short.

How beneficial is this? The parent company was able to book over $6 billion in earnings this quarter, much of that due to Tik Tok.

This is something that Leo needs to tap into.

Finally, we have Rumble. While this is much smaller than the other two, it is becoming a niche market for video creators. With some of the laws being passed down, this could end up growing.

Here is where Leo has to shift its focus and access what is out there.

Shorts Are A Much Bigger Audience

As I have repeatedly stated, Leo needs to focus upon becoming a media platform. This is one of the things that Elon Musk is doing with X. He is incorporating all kinds of media content, as long as you pay of course.

With Leo, we flip the script. We are not looking for people to pay. Instead, our value capture is in the token. Welcome to the future. This is a major advantage Leo has over the platforms mentioned. It is something that requires leveraging.

The reality is the best selling point is success. Why do markets have FOMO? Because people see the move off the bottom and they do not want to miss out.

What happens if someone goes to X and says "I got $50 in tokens posting shorts on Leo that turned into $250"? Will this garner some attention? You bet your ass it will.

Promotion is great but the easiest thing to sell is success. For this reason, it is time to build those.

To me, this means making Leo into a media center with a heavy emphasis on video. Over the weekend I posted a number of livestreams. These are feeds from YouTube that run 24/7. The focus was on news since that is round the clock. For those interested, look at the #newsonleo tag.

There were also a number of college football games that were livestreamed through Leo. It was simply a matter of posting them.

What we are looking at is providing people with options. The idea is to fill Leo with a ton of video content, something they can watch right from the front end.

Massive Valuation

The markets value companies involved in video a lot higher than those who do audio or gaming. For this reason, it only makes sense that a platform with a lot of video content will, at some point, garner a higher token price.

Isn't this what many desire?

Shorts is a great starting point. I do not know if expanding into full video content is worth it down the road. However, short videos, especially the way that posting on Leo is done (via threads) is phenomenal. We are essentially putting up video comments.

Just think of what this could potentially do for advertising. Could there be an ad or two on the viewer page?

This is certainly something we could look at and I would recommend.

Either way, we need a ton more video content on Leo. When taking a YouTube video, if we copy the URL, it will play right on Leo. This is something that I did with the threadcasts for Hivefest. The YouTube stream was embedded into the top line thread .

If Leo is going to make any kind of statement, it has to get into social video.

Shorts with ads implemented into the platform would be HUGE! We are talking about a new massive revenue stream for the LEO community and token along with a place that many would love to submit new forms of content. I already myself have a number of content creators that would love to add short form videos to hive but the current setup for it just doesn't work optimally what so ever.

I would say that's a HUGE issue right now with Dbuzz and 3speak in terms of their short form content being published as brand new blog posts and cluttering all of that up.

If leo shorts works like threads then I know I can bring on board a number of clients I work with to this platform and that's one reason I'm excited for it. The other reason would of course be ad revenue and money value it would generate. Video ads pay far higher than text and image aka banner ads.

I know I talk a lot about money and revenue but let's be real that is a HUGE driving factor for content creators and people using platforms. Just mimicking twitter/X or TikTok is not going to bring success. There's no reason why someone would stop using twitter/X or TikTok as a content creator unless they were getting paid for it. There's sooooo much opportunity here if we could start getting a decentralized ad system in place that rewards fairly and has no benefit to spammers or those who try to manipulate the platform. Perhaps whitelisting someone for ad revenue? No ideas, but just some things to start talking about and figuring out.

I agree completely. The fact they are placing the videos at the top line blog means it is hindered. However, if we place it at the comment level, the number is not limited. There could be people putting up a dozen shorts per day and not problem.

This will be huge especially if the ads are built in to them.

Ive written and commented about short form content and how Hive needs it. Once again Leo is at the forefront of this project and this is going to be a game changer.

It is a game changer. We need to get a lot more video on Leo. This is where the value can increase a great deal.

True that. I’d be sure to have some quality vids ready.

It will be interesting to see how it rolls out.

Should be interesting if they can get it out by month end.

I would absolutely LOVE video content for Leo! I've been looking for a good place to begin uploading and documenting all the electronic dance music (EDM) festivals and nightclub shows that I go to without having to worry about my video quality getting crushed or wacky copyright laws about video footage I captured myself legally.

I haven't loved the 3speak platform, so I am excited to see what Leo can do for video!

Well it will integrate 3Speak's as the back end since I doubt Leo is going to design it themselves. The key is that, through threads, it will be like a comment. You can upload dozens of shorts and have it not appear on your blog like through 3Speak.

That is key.

I am embedding as much YouTube stuff as I can to simply get more video on the platform.

Yes I see that. I will check and see what I can do with 3speak, but I love the idea of incorporating video into the short-form X template of LeoThreads.

Yeah. I do not like that 3Speak shorts are blog posts. That is the issue with a lot of other forms of media on Hive.

Leo will look to solve it.
