The Need To Create A Ton Of Links

(Edited)

A short time ago, Leofinance went through a rebrand. This is something that excited a lot of people. It did improve things in many ways, opening up the platform to all types of content. This is likely going to be a positive step in the future.

This does not mean that the move was without issue. While there were some challenges bestowed upon the team in the form of bugs and other gremlins, there is something help that was basically nuked.

search engine optimization (SEO) went into the toilet. The fact the URL was changed has caused a huge drop in the rankings. I see this with the LeoGlossary pages, which were once visible through Google.

That does not mean it is permanent. These things happen all the time and the search engines are equipped to adjust. It does mean, however, that things are now getting lost in the mix.

Community Needs To Step Up.

When it comes to SEO, there are a lot of headwinds.

Due to the nature of this blockchain, the content is automatically duplicated. This can have an interesting effect on things.

For this reason, it is crucial that all attention be given to doing whatever we can to get pages found. This starts with linking. Orphan pages are death, drifting off into the digital abyss. One of the benefits to internal links is that it binds pages together. This means that, if something is indexed, having a link to another page will send the Google spider to that page.

It appears that, at this point, we are back to getting pages even to index. While they are still there for PeakD and Ecency, the InLeo URL is simply not known. This makes sense due to be relatively new.

However, it is something that we have to work on correcting. While we can try to become experts at gaming the system, a much better way is simply to brute force things. If we start to hit the search engines with a ton of pages, that will get some attention.

Here is where having a community can do that.

But how do we go about it?

Ideas To Awaken The Search Engines

The key here is new content and a ton of it.

Before going any further, we have to define what this means. New to a search engine is not the same as it is to us.

While creating brand new content from scratch is great, it is only a piece of the puzzle. An equally beneficial move is to refresh older articles. This means going through and removing dead links, adding more content, and posting some additional links.

To the search engine this is new, while also being old. It does not overlook the initial date. The fact an article might be 3 years old is of benefit. When it is refreshed, think of it as new content that is aged.

This carries a great deal of weight.

Keep in mind, from what I could uncover, the search engines want relevance. To them, updated content increases the likelihood that something is relevant.

SEO Techniques

There are others on here who are a lot more knowledgeable about this topic. We see many people who look for ways to improve the SEO of their articles. Does this work? One will have to search around to determine that.

We can find many pointers online for improving. Certainly, those with knowledge can search for the key words that rank well but are not oversaturated. If this is your approach, have at it.

For me, I prefer to keep expanding the content and creating a "bigger iceberg". This is a mental model I work from.

WikiCommons Page

The Internet is really nothing more than a series of hyperlinks. This is how the basic framework operates. Pages are linked together providing an all-encompassing system. Hence, it is vital to link as many pages together and make the site as large as possible.

This is where the iceberg enters.

If the site is nothing more than an ice cube floating in the ocean, it will not be seen. On the other hand, a major iceberg cannot help but be seen.

Of course, this doesn't mean spamming content or just creating link pages for manipulation. By now, the search engines are onto that. There still needs to be relevance and a lot of content that ties together.

Over time, we can build a nice library of articles that do this. LeoGlossary is a project that is dedicated to creating pages that are joined throughout. We are over 3,500 now and counting.

The key is older pages are continually being refreshed along with newer ones being added.

This is where nothing on the Internet is linear. A single article with a few links in it has an impact upon multiple levels.

Now multiple by that, as a platform, a few million times.

I think it is good to pay attention to SEO. From my point of view, the number of visits to a particular page makes it appear better in search engines.
So I think paying attention to ads that may be on YouTube and Google and allocating a special budget for them will help a lot.

I believe that improving the SEO of Peakd and Inleo, for example, will help all the pages within them to improve their ranking in search engines, and therefore it is more related to the site published on it than the articles themselves.

I would agree but that is something out of our control. I cannot force either to make changes in the UI. I hope the project teams look more into that and making the sites SEO friendly.

One key is to have the site work faster. That will help.

Wow, I did not know updating old content could creep them up in the search engine results. I heard about this before but not in detail like this.

Yes. The search engines look for relevance from what I understand so updating old articles by adding more content and removing dead links helps a great deal.

How do we add to LeoGlossary again? I would be happy to help with the music stuff, especially in my area of expertise -- Electronic Dance Music (EDM).
