Music On Leo And The Recommend Feature

The LEO platform is really making some strides.

As most are aware, the LeoNode went live. This is really evident on Labs where, after 3 hours of testing, I have not had one hiccup. Unfortunately, the same is not true for the production site (InLeo). This is not a surprise since we were told to use Labs while some of the necessary upgrades (I presume bug fixes) are worked out.

This is a big step forward. However, it is not the only change that occurred today.

On the main site, we see this:

Recommend Goes Live

Leo is moving into the AI and algorithm age. The image above was found at the bottom of a blog page I was on. It actually was the LeoGlossary page for soldier.

We were notified this feature would be available shortly. Well, it is now live and providing suggestions.

Why is this so big?

Simply, it puts Leo in the game. We know recommend features are all over social media. This is what drives a lot of traffic. On YouTube, the views go through the roof if you happen to catch the algo in the right way. Of course, miss it and the clicks are low.

While Leo is not driving a ton of traffic, this is a milestone that benefits Music on Leo. It also takes the project to another level.

One thing we have to mention, this is only available on blog pages. It will be integrated into Threads in the future. When that happens, we are dealing with an entirely new ballgame.

Leo Recommending Music

Here is a playlist that was sent to me to add to the LeoGlossary Playlist page.

On its own, we have a simple page with some songs on it. This is what playlists are. However, as I was scrolling through, I noticed something at the bottom. Before I got to the comment section, this is what I saw:

You will notice the recommend feature proposed another music related option. We again find this to be interesting on its own. However, there is another level to it.

When I clicked on it, come to ;earn this is a thread. It is actually a threadstorm that was used to create a music playlist. Each song was placed as a comment below, in an album form.

Is this an ideal match? I am not sure most would put Bob Marley together with Talking Heads and Survivor. That said, it is somewhat in the same realm unlike, say, opera. However, I believe the correlation was done through the playlist tag since both contain it.

As an aside, if you are a Bob Marley fan, here is the link to the songs.

Databases Bring Value

Over the past few months, I have been hammering the importance of databases and filling them with stuff that people find value in. Is a thread valuable? For the most part, no. There is little that any of us can write in a few hundred characters that will have any lasting impact.

Music is, however, an exception to the rule. While some might not be Marley fans, there are many who are. A recommend like this might get some people clicking through to listen to the songs. And guess where they are doing it? On Leo.

One thing that I take away from this observation is how we need to take database management to the next level. As we see how the algorithm starts to connect things, we can provide that information. For example, it makes sense to tag the genre of music we are posting. This means using tags such as rock, hip hip, country, or blues. It could help the algo offer out better promotion.

The key is, obviously, getting the information in there. We are starting to see how Leo is utilizing the data to bring more to the platform. That means it is up to us to keep filling the database with more information.

Music on Leo is only a few weeks old. It is something that is designed to allow people to utilize the site. If the recommend feature is going to start suggesting songs, that is a major step forwards. Of course, we have to be mindful that it is likely to be wonky in the beginning.

Nevertheless, the more data we provide, the better the algo gets. This is to the benefit of anyone with Leo Power because pageviews means ad revenue.

It is wonderful to watch how this is all unfolding before our eyes.

I think this feature will also be useful in finding related items, those that we may what to look into but don't want to go searching for it. Over time, the sorting will get better, especially with relevant tags put together.
