How To Set Up A Playlist

Some have asked how do we go about setting up playlists for Music on Leo.

This is a loaded question since there are many ways to do it. However, in this article I will share some of the basics that should be included along with some thoughts on what could be done.

To start, it is important state that all songs used for the playlist are in the database. To find out what is there, we have a number of different sources.

There are the three singles pages:

There is also the page listing the individual artists pages:

It might be good to bookmark these pages for future reference.

From these, you can find whatever songs are in the database. These are updated daily as more music is captured.

Playlist can involved a lot of creativity and individuality. There is no way to state how a playlist should look. This is up to the individual.

The above is a shot of one that I set up. Here is the playlist if you want to check it out.

What I did was set up the list, run it through ChatGPT to get some info, put it in the post and then linked the songs. This is how I approach it and others are free to follow suit. However, it is really up to you.

That said here are some suggestions.

Use An Alt Account

Playlists are blog posts. This means they are eligible for evergreen rewards from the ad revenue. However, if you are a serious blogger, you probably do not want this mixed in with your regular posts.

For that reason, it might be best to use an alt account. If you do not have one, let me know since I have a ton of account claim tokens that can be used.

Decline Rewards

Playlists are not meant to generate payouts from the reward pool. On Leo we are looking at taking things in a different direction. With a playlist, it will be just as relevant 5 years from now as today.

That means we are after long term pageviews. Here is where the evergreen payments can add up. Hence, do not create an issue for yourself. Simply decline rewards and start the process of getting content out there that can be visited over time.

Keep Filling The Pipeline

This is a term that we used in the sales world. However, it is applicable here. If you want something to come out, i.e. money, you need to "fill the funnel". This means putting enough in so something comes out.

To me, the idea of generating playlists on a consistent basis makes sense. Consider what things will look like in a year if you do one every two days. That will be 180 playlists for people to visit.

In this regard, something that was done is not lost. In fact, it keeps adding to the pile.

Link It All

The key is to keep linking as much as you can. Develop some playlists and then put 4 or 5 at the bottom of each one you do. This could fall under a header "To listen to more music like this" or something to that effect.

If you get someone onto the content, you want them moving around. Unlike an article where people read it and move on, if someone likes your selection in music, they might want to listen to more.

Give them an opportunity.

Use The Playlist tag

The idea is to build a collective library of playlists. As more music is placed in our database, we need to "market it". Playlists are a great way to do this.

There is a central repository under LeoGlossary for all playlists that are captured. The image below captures what is located here.

We will keep adding to the list throughout the month. Also, we will set these up each month to fill up. This way people can visit the pages, scan the playlists, and drop by the playlists that others make.

Additional Thoughts

One big idea I have is to suggest you get creative. There is really no limit to what you can do. Also, you can break these up however you want.

A few things that do come to mind:

  • make sure your title is descriptive: Do not just title it playlist. Put something in it telling about the music
  • I suggest using the date to make it impossible to duplicate. If you do a playlist titled classic rock playlist, that can easily be duplicated. However, if you put that plus the date, then there is another way to separate it, especially if you make another one the following day.
  • Put your name in the playlist: again to distinguish you from others

The playlist can be as long or as short as you want. For me, I found around 15 songs is a nice numbers.

Make the Playlist for You

This is very important.

Do not make playlists for others. I found this to not be effective. The best approach is to put together lists of songs that resonate with you. Then, use the list yourself. If you create something you really enjoy listening to, then there is a good chance that others who like that genre of music will also.

The idea is to attract others to listen to what we are offering.

Share the Pages

Once you have the playlists made, you can start sharing them. Drop them in different areas to let people know what you are listening to. This is how we can appeal to others without being to intrusive.

Simply drop it on Facebook with a statement like "this is what I am listening to now". Give others the option of clicking through.

Pageviews Are Key

Ultimately, we are trying to build a library of songs and lists that generate a ton of page views. We know music is liked by most. We are simply trying to place what we have here in front of others.

Of course, it all starts at home. With the playlists, we can be our own consumer. For example, I put together a number of lists already that allow me to listen to music all day without having to leave Leo. If we get 60-90 songs, that is a lot of hours of music.

Play around, get creative, and see what you can do. Perhaps add graphics and other things to enhance the appeal of what you are creating.

One Final Thought

The great thing about databases is they grow over time. With the playlists, we are creating more content that can be repurposed in the future. For example, what if someone had 100 playlists and he or she put together a list of "My Top 10 Playlists".

Suddenly the playlists become the basis for more content.

Always remember, if you want more pageviews, it is crucial to have more pages.

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, drop them in the comments below.

Use an Alt Account

Now I have a reason to use my @motivator-please account! I set it up during my first few weeks on Hive in May 2021 when I was wandering through the wilderness. I can delegate RCs to it so I can begin posting music links from there.

The music itself is not really a problem since it is just a thread so doesnt really affect your main account.

A playlist is a blog post which you might not want in your main account. But totally up to you.

hey we really like this idea, we are just in the process of working on new playlists and updating some old ones. If we start adding them and making them on leo will leo or someone be supporting this?
