The Magic Of Reality

avatar

Reality is complex and multifaceted with its different layers of meaning and understanding. Philosophers often argue that life has no meaning and we can never truly understand it. What matters more, is to experience it.

Depending on how you ask the question about the dynamic or fixity of reality, you will probably get different answers.

For me, it is both with varying degrees to of them. Despite the many advances in Science to reverse aging, we really can't get younger beyond a certain limit. There's a big element of fixity to aging than can't be changed no matter how much we try.

Time itself can be viewed as dynamic in a sense that it seems to be changing from one moment to another. Days, weeks, or months don't always feel the same, do they?

Of course, one could also argue that time is fixed since we're basically 'locked' in the present. Objectively, we can't experience the past or the future. Some even say that neither the present nor the future exists. Hence, the popular saying that the present is all we've got.

I guess everything is relative in an impermanent world that's constantly changing.

Subjective and Objective reality

It isn't that long ago that I had this huge realisation that there's a noticeable difference between the world and a world. From a grammatical viewpoint, the world is the objective reality as we tend to see and know it.

And a world is the subjective reality that each of us have. Whether we are aware it or not, we all live in our own world that's quite different from the world out there.

In some way, the former gets superimposed into the latter and we see objective reality through our subjective reality so to speak.

In my opinion, it's one of the reasons why many of us don't really know much about the world because it is mostly filtered by our preconceived ideas and gathered experiences which makes up our own world.

Interestingly, we sometimes like to think that our subjective reality is superior or more important and it can be independent from objective reality. But life has its way of making us remember that everything is interconnected and interdependent.

The interplay between the two is one of the ways in which evolution happens. Think about it, what growth will there be if we only lived in our world most of the time, especially from a mental and emotional viewpoint?

Thankfully, this is quite impossible, we're constantly interacting with objective reality through experiences and this has many ways of changing our subjective reality. Likewise, our subjective reality also changes objective reality albeit to a certain extent.

Yes, the law of physics, which is one of the main aspect of objective reality is mostly fixed. But there's still an ample scope beyond the fundamental laws that can be modified. For example, most technological inventions like the internet originated from subjective reality and later came into objective reality.

Expanding One's Universe

Another way of putting the interaction between the two is that it contributes to the expansion of one's universe.
Looking at a picture of my 5 year old self is always a strange experience.

On the one hand, there's this familiarity or relatableness with the kid on the picture. But on the other hand, ages have gone by and I've outgrown that person like a chrysalis to a butterfly.

Basically, the kid on the picture is me yet not me at the same time.

In most cases, the more we grow older, the more our universe expands irrespective of whether we choose to pursue growth in all its forms or not.

A characteristic of life down here on Earth is that change is inevitable and since change by and large means growth, we can also say growth is inevitable. For me, this is exciting because there's magic in growth.

Like Peeling Off An Onion

Long gone are the days when the majority of the world thought that the Earth was flat or that it was the center of the solar system. Discoveries help us put things into perspective and not get carried away by more false beliefs.

Some discoveries will require us to shed a whole layer of preconceived ideas, losing 'mental weight' along the process.

The goal is to lose as much unnecessary weight as possible so that we can bridge the gap between our subjective reality and the objective reality. This way we won't be overly delusional about life thinking that we're awake while in reality we're just dreaming.

This is an interesting line from the article, whether we like it or not growth is inevitable, therefore we might as well make good use of the growth in our respective world.

Some interesting thoughts to ponder from this article.

Yes, indeed! I think the mindset is to welcome and make best use of it no matter how hard it looks. Change is good for humans, especially when it is gradual :)

Glad you found it interesting and thanks for stopping by :)

Spot on, brother! Moreover, quantum physics states that in the momento we see an object we have already interfiered with it. It's like the effect the microscope has on the microorganism. We are not actually looking at them but at the image the microscope gives. In the moment we use our eyes as an instrument and furthermore, our brains to translate the image, that's a gross interference of reality. Pretty much everything is subjective... but still rather useful! Haha.

Yes, I've heard about that too. We're always interacting with our environment through our sense and most of it isn't registered by our conscious mind. I'm wondering what things will be like if we're more conscious and get a glimpse of this amazing process of interaction.

That's it! It's very useful especially from a knowledge viewpoint. It's always good to compare and contrast between the subjective and the objective.

There are times I look at the things I posted on Facebook 10 to 11 years ago, and it's amazing to see how that person has morphed into who I am, changed, by experience and aged and so many other factors indeed.

Right! It's just so different when we compare between us in distant past and us in the present. I think the transformation just happens along the way and when we look back we realise how far we've come in striding forward to create a path for ourselves.

In most cases, the more we grow older, the more our universe expands irrespective of whether we choose to pursue growth in all its forms or not.

I'd argue that sometimes it's the reverse... The older we grow the more limitations we face, some that we set to ourselves. For most people curiosity is at its peak as a child and that slowly declines as they are fed to the system of producing human-robots.

Yes, that's also the case! Children have a freedom like attitude that's taken away when they grow older as the limitations of the world become more evident to them. I think the system of producing human-robots stunts our growth as adults since we get trapped into a narrow view of life that focuses on only a single or few aspects of life.

Change indeed is inevitable, some experiences can lead one to make choices that makes them worst than who they were in the past and others better than who they were.
Whether we like it or not- change does occur in age, looks and all physical attributes though internal growth needs more effort and the change of external factors.

Rightly said! Depending on the choices we make, we can become a better person or not so better person. I think the perceived free will aspect in regards to change often works in our favor when we decide to make the right choices.

Yes, we do change in many ways both internally and externally. For me, the internal changes are more profound and imactful is because it touches on the essence of who we really are.

Oh! It often does. The profound impact of free will.

For me, the internal changes are more profound and impactful.

I agree wholly. It also finds a way to either mar our outer appearance or make it. Hence, the ideology of ‘the ugliness within tarnishes the physical beauty’ sufficing.

Indeed. This ideology well captures how the internal influences the external. I think it also shows us where we should put more focus on.
