Big Goals Take Time

avatar

Life often looks more organized when we have goals set up and we're working towards achieving them. Since it's our life, it's always fitting to choose our own goals, hopefully in a state of conscious awareness. This is crucial, goals need to reflect who we are or what we want to become.

I think naturally, we all have the ability to think big. Our imagination is often bigger than life in a sense that it extends beyond the limits of reality. Science fiction is a great outlet where we wonderfully paint our imaginations and test them out on the fabric of reality.

Thinking big can give birth to big goals when we feel much desire to bring a particular imagination into reality. Against all odds, humans have willed many imaginations into reality. Many of the new inventions around us were imaginations at some point in history.

Achieving big goals requires tremendous willpower especially when we factor in the time aspect. It won't take an 'ordinary willpower' to get humans to Mars nor will going from poverty to wealth happen overnight, especially when one is starting from scratch.

When Starting From The Bottom

Big goals are generally goals that when achieved considerably changes the life of the achiever, his or her immediate environment and perhaps, society at large.

Now, starting from the bottom is not a given when it comes to big goals. Some start at a good position when pursuing a big goal. But when one is at the bottom, setting big goals is the most logical thing to do as it provides the 'pull' needed to get out of the bottom.

It depends on how we view it, starting from the bottom can seem like a disadvantage. Because it is akin to standing at an underdeveloped place with little to no tools or resources to start utilizing in accomplishing the goal.

The good part with starting from the bottom is that there can only be one focused direction which is moving up. The seemingly bad part is that one will have to work 10x harder. This can be a bit demotivating as all progress in the beginning seems to be a flatline. All the effort put in results in little to no progress.

The time aspect is also stretched, 10x harder often equates with more time. This is what makes people(myself included) give up on their big dreams turned big goals, it seems to take an eternity. We underestimate how long it will take to just build momentum and take things off the ground.

I'm more wary of the effort put in on achieving a goal in general when starting at the bottom. Because it both directly and indirectly affects the time it will take to reach the goal. Yes, one can shorten the time but it reaches a point where it can't be shorten anymore. And patience is needed to keep going and trust the process.

The Outcome

Oftentimes, when we realise that the journey is going to be long, we try looking for shortcuts to considerably reduce the time and effort. Maybe reducing it into half or more. Instead of going with the principles, we look for tactics to boost up our path.

Thanks to instant gratification, many people waste a lot of time looking for the shortcut instead of actually building. I'm not implying that shortcuts don't exist. But many of them are not worth it especially when it comes to achieving big goals.

In many cases, the reason why we end up not achieving our goals isn't because we're not capable. It is because we didn't give it enough time for it to unfold into reality. We give up when things start getting harder.

Nobody expects achieving a life changing goal to be easy. Yet we somehow want it to be that way.

I like science fiction a lot and one of the major reason why I do is because it expands the human mind to what we can potentially or futuristically become.

As per instant gratification. I've not bought any decent clothes in 3 years and that's because I cannot afford that present gratification

That's a great way to see it! Science fiction exposes us to future possibilities and gives us a glimpse on how to get there sometimes. We also know that reality is not that rigid like we've come to belief because it is changeable.

I think we're on the same boat there. For me, it's top tier clothes for popular or big occasions. I'm kind of singled out during such occasions but I'm pretty much okay with that. Instant gratification is an ongoing short term problem.

Tough times never last only tough people do, many people give up on their goals when things get tough not knowing they are one step closer to their dream, we must never give up on our dreams and this means we keep reminding ourselves why we started in the first place especially if we have come a long way.

Indeed! Sometimes, if we remind ourselves how far we've come already, then we will think thrice before giving up as all those efforts could be wasted. It's better to keep going even if it is one step at a time, bit by bit, than giving up altogether. Tough times are really inevitable on the path to achieving our goals. How we handle it can make a big difference on if we end up achieving our goals.

The thought of starting from the bottom can be discouraging, which is why some of us give up even before attempting but if we manage to get the momentum going some tend to offer lessons worth learning, some give us moments of blissful experience while there are painful experiences as well.

As much as shorcuts gives instant results, at times the results don't last compared to the results from scratch.

Yes. I often see the blessing with starting from the bottom as having the opportunity to develop a fresh perspective and something that can be truly unique or different. It will definitely be hard in the beginning, there will he many failures along the way but I think it will all be worthwhile when everything is accomplished.

Indeed! They're fleeting. Just like sand castles, they disappear or crumble to the ground when the wind blows. Better to go all along starting from scratch and build something that's substantial, something that can stood the test of time.

The beauty of growing big also involves knowing that you went through the process and that precess takes time. Time and sacrifice is the price for growth

Indeed! They are the sacrifice for growth and there's no shortcut towards it. The fact that the process takes time brings about good opportunities to also transform ourselves and become better.

I agree with you.. every now and then I do get some little reminder that this is taking time, though I already know taking the easier route won't give me that satisfaction at the end, I will rather try my possible best to keep taking it bit by bit, it's not always easy doing it that way - I experience that a lot when am working on a painting.

Absolutely! Especially in the beginning, it is a slow process and we have to be okay with taking it a bit by bit remembering that it will pay off on the long run when we stick to it. I feel that shortcuts only give short term results and we've left to do the rest ourselves.

This is the fact and there are lessons to learn from it.

It is fairly obvious that when we set goals for ourselves, there is always that recognisable chance that we may not achieve the goal but you never can tell what the future holds until you resiliently and smartly make effort to build in a futuristic way.

It's still not uncommon that so many people would rather go for instant gratification. I mean, this is humans for you and I'm also within that bracket. But, when we get enough experience about life, it becomes easier to do things today in anticipation of what it will yield a decade from now. Hehw. #dreemerforlife

Absolutely! I think that's also why we lose motivation and inspiration every now and then when we face obstacles. The doubt is always at the back of our mind whether we will achieve it or not. And sometimes, it does influence our decisions towards that goal. I think smart effort with a touch of resiliency is a great way to go about it when times seems tough.

Yes, we revel at instant gratification, reaching cloud nine briefly and coming back down to earth. We humans operate in strange but fascinating ways. Indeed, the more experience we have the more we're able to detach from our emotions and objectively think about the future. This increases our chance of reaching our goals. It's no secret that the lesser the experience, the higher of losing anything substantial we've achieved.

I consider goals as what gives humans purpose, though achieving goals might seem difficult depending on the achiever point of view, No goal is easy regardless of the achiever starting point. It all comes down to ability of an individual to remain determined, consistent and motivated.

One of the greatest challenges that face humans whenever we try to achieve a particular goal is unavailability of resources, this is what mostly determine the starting point of every individual. The moment resources are available you can always quickly put things in place and a tremendous effort will be made towards achieving the goal but reverse is the case if resources is not available or scarse

Instant gratification is one the reasons why a lot of individuals are still unable to turn their dreams into reality, it is just like building on hive platform, aiming to achieve higher HP resources but unable to save up hive because of some material desires. I believe this has to do with discipline.

I definitely agree. With goals, we have something to aim for and work on achieving. This brings the element of transformation as we tend to change along the process of achieving our goal.

The lack of resources is definitely a drawback, imagine if we had infinite resources to pursue our goals, the journey will pretty much finish before it starts. I think the lack of resources is part of the reason that makes the goal more worthwhile to achieve because we will have to test ourselves and go beyond our comfort zones to look for resources or even create them.

It's indeed a matter of discipline. The moment we can't control our desires, we let go of any sense of direction and fall into chaos. Instead of facing our reality and making it how we want it to be, we dream about it. I think building HP on Hive is really important, especially at the start. I'm contemplating exploring layer 2 investments but I have to focus on the most important part first.

Lack of resources might be a challenge that motivates people to get things done, just like the old saying " what doesn't kill you makes you stronger but that is just negative motivation 😂. It sounds similar to the techniques used by our government by depriving citizens social amenities and welfare in order to motivate the public to vote, so I disagree 😂

Layer 2 investment? I don't think grab its meaning, kindly elaborate.

I definitely agree! The way they say it is more demotivating than motivating. If it doesn't kill me, it will make me stronger, just stronger? 😂😂

I dislike the tactics that these governments use to influence us to vote on things that they want is to vote on. First they create the problem, we feel it, and then they bring the solution, and we think we have to jump on it and secure it.

Layer 2 is the Hive engine tokens like LEO, PIMP, NEOXAG, CTP etc. There are some investment tokens thay pay weekly or monthly income like BRO and LGN.

Regardless of how cruel the tactics used by the government might be, it still works and the fact people still get lured by the this absurd tactics it is what made so sad. Endless journey of hypocrisy and ignorance.

Oh i have heard of it, I guess I'm not familiar with the term you used

Thanks for the explanation.

The journey does indeed seem endless but I'm hopeful that things will change for the better in the future. The tactics will stop working at some point.

Yes, I must've used a different term.
You're most welcome :)

The problem with taking shortcuts is that they often lead to a lack of mastery and understanding of the principles. Without the proper foundation, it can be difficult to make any real progress. So while shortcuts can reduce the time and effort, they may not be the best choice in the long run.

Exactly, in the long run we might come to realise that we abandon the principles for the tactics and although we might have made some progress, we still need FL develop the principles in order to achieve lasting results that will move the needle by a mile or more. Principles are neccesary foundation in everything we do.

Tremendous willpower indeed and kind of exerting it personally nowadays. Change of course path is very challenging but it's worth seeing a whole different scenery. Starting from scratch makes the journey more rewarding ☺️

Great to hear that, keep pushing ahead!

That's how I like to see it too! When we start from scratch the journey becomes more rewarding since we're building something that's entirely new and different. I think sometimes changing course is just neccesary, we have to pivot and introduce new variables.
