A Few Tweaks To Increase Your Earning Potential

avatar

The old adage of learning more to earn more holds true with more weight in the modern age. It's obvious that the more we know, the better we will be able to do things.

Learning is the first step, it is a fundamental life skill that can never be emphasized enough on how important it is to acquire.
Although, sometimes, we may not need to learn more.

We may need to better organise what we've already learnt to create something else from it.

Paralysis by analysis is becoming more common nowadays because of the too much information our senses pick up.

In this post, we will look at both aspects of learning more and better organising what we've already learn in regards to increasing one's earning potential.

Refinement

With the rate at which developments are happening and the AI revolution that is about to dawn on us, staying relevant is getting harder and harder.

Before you fully immerse yourself and understand a particular field, the tides of change are already sweeping things away replacing it with something a bit different.

My assumption is that we will go through three or more career changes in our lifetime compared to our parents or grandparents who probably had one or none at all.

Apart from the new sectors that are forming, many of the sectors today are completing different from what they were a decade or two ago. Some had gone underground. Remember payphones or dial-up internet?

Changing careers doesn't seem efficient in my view, developing a set of skills and upgrading them is.

The reason why I say that is because many of the current workforce will transition into independent contractors or creators with a unique sets of skills that they monetize.

It's already happening and will probably accelerate in the future.

So the first tweak on increasing one's earning potential is to upgrade one's skillet. This requires learning more. And it can happen in two ways. Vertical or horizontal.

Becoming more specialized on a set of skills or becoming a bit of a generalist on adjacent skillsets that compliment one's primary skillset.

Writing, for example, is a fundamental skillet. Through penning our thoughts down, we can evolve it into other creations like a video or audio. Both of them first begin with writing.

Now, suppose one chooses to go vertical, this will mean refining one's writing style in all aspects to become a better writer.

Whereas going horizontal will mean learning to become a speaker(audio) or demonstrator(video) and evolve one's work beyond just writing.

Doing either or both will gradually increase one's market value. Hence also, earning potential.

Distribution

The other tweak that doesn't necessarily require learning more but organising what one has already learnt is in distributing one's work.

How many formats are your work in and at how many places?

Distribution is basically the exposure one's work receives.

It's a number's game really.

The more exposure one's work has, the higher the earning potential.

I learnt this dynamism on traditional social media.

Despite its silo system across different platforms, creators adapt to each of the platforms when presenting their work in order to reach maximum exposure.

Of course, not every creator does that because it can be a tedious task that not many are willing to do.

Picture writing a blog on medium, making a video on YouTube, a tweet or tweetstorm on Twitter, posting a slide on Instagram or a reel on TikTok.

In theory, it's not that hard since one is reorganising the same work but it is time consuming on practical terms.

Each platform has its own nuisances. However, on the flip side, the creator's work will be everywhere.

In some way, things are bound to get better with the concept of the everything app being worked on.

Much better on the web3 sphere, with ecosystems like Hive, on which Leofinance is currently leading the way at building the everything app.

I think an open one stop distribution system will be a game changer when utilised correctly from a creator's perspective.

In Closing

If we pull on the curtain and put things on concept mode. Refinement is basically building while distribution is selling.

Through tweaking both of them and refining their processes, one will get better on their work and the results they get. Which means a higher earning potential.

staying relevant is getting harder and harder

I can't agree more, it is getting harder and 24 hours a day seems shorter to trying to stay up to date.

The idea of skillsets refinement and upgrading them seats well with me, these are vital to staying up to date for an over increase on our earning potential.

Yes, time itself seems to be small and we can do very little in a single day.

I think that would be the edge people can have over the rapid change that is happening. With skillsets, one just needs to upgrade them like a software when the system changes.
Thanks for stopping by :)
